Musicians in training need to understand the sound they are producing in order to improve its deficient aspects. Verbal feedback from musical masters is the usual method used for attaining this understanding. However, using real time sound visualisation as a complementary form of feedback allows the large amounts of data typical of real-time acoustic analysis to be employed within training. This improves the efficiency of the feedback loop normally present within musical training and pedagogy. The implementation and effect of such a system is discussed.

On the body surface the electric field generated by the cardiac muscles consists of electric potential maxima and minima that increase and decrease during each cardiac cycle. The recording of these electric potentials as a function of time is called electrocardiography, and the resulting signal is called the electrocardiogram (ECG). The ECG signal is used extensively as a low cost diagnostic tool to provide information concerning the heart's state of health. Reliable and accurate detection of the QRS complex and R wave peak in ECG signals is essential in computer-based ECG analysis. In this paper we evaluate the significance of Detrended Fluctuation analysis (DFA) for studying heart rate variability in children with sleep disordered breathing. An Enhanced Hilbert Transform (EHT) algorithm was used to derive the Heart Rate Variability (HRV) signal. We compare the DFA values with Approximate Entropy and Poincari Plots of HRV signals as these are very useful in characterization and visualization of HRV data. Our data demonstrated differences in DFA parameters between periods of normal and abnormal breathing and also between sleep stages. These results suggest that DFA is suitable for the long-term analysis of non-stationary time series such as HRV signals and may also be applied in the detection of sleep disordered breathing.

We present a novel technique to extract a multiresolution surface representation from a dense set of unorganized points within three dimensional space. Without utilization of additional connectivity or topological information our procedure is able to efficiently produce a precise and topologicaly correct reconstruction of the underlying model. Based on a hierarchical spatial partitioning scheme and regular and irregular mesh refinement techniques we obtain a hierarchical quadrilateral mesh datastructure which is known as Hybrid Mesh (HM). We start by constructing a simple quad-mesh whose faces aggregate the surface of the initial bounding voxel encapsulating the entire point cloud. Through the process of voxel refinement we simultaneously perform a combined regular-irregular mesh refinement whereas the considered quad-mesh is adapted to wrap the remaining non-empty subvoxels. We project the mesh vertices on planes obtained by principal component analysis (PCA) for each voxel. We provide numerical examples for reconstructions obtained by our method.

Four different media were explored, from paper-and-pencil to a fully immersive virtual reality experience. Wide-ranging data in the course was collected and its analysis was presented. A framework for analyzing virtual reality media for applications in education was included. Special effort was directed towards analyzing the cost to benefit ratio of using different teaching technologies.

analysis of multi-body system dynamics is the core content of Virtual Prototyping(VP) of mechanical system. Locomotive can be described as a multi-body system, here presents visualized VP developing platform. The virtual model was obtained from CAD system like CAXA, and the attributes of inertia, mass, etc., were extracted from features, parts and assemblies of CAD environment. The model with uniform format, which includes geometrical data and attribute data, was transmitted into the visualized platform of VP and was mapped into the topology structure of multi-body system of locomotive, in which the dynamics computing equations were constructed and the result was resolved and visualized. All of these were given in integrated visualized VP system named VPMS. A freight car model is built for testifying the system, which obeys the theory mentioned above. The simulating result shows that the platform is satisfying for the visualization of modeling and dynamics computation.

In this article, we present a novel fast algorithm dedicated to the visualization of scalar and vectorial information lying on elliptical surfaces. As the geometry of the data is simple and not relevant, and inside structures are meaningless, standard visualization methods appear to be not well adapted to our context. Our algorithm is based on map projections, good candidates to unroll elliptical surface around a region of interest, without being computationally prohibitive. It has the merit to project, on a 2D cartographic reference, different views of scalar as well as, vectorial 3D information lying on the surface. Many business organizations generate a huge amount of transaction data. Association rule mining is a powerful analysis tool to extract the useful meanings and associations from large databases and many automated systems have been developed for mining association rules. However, most of these systems usually mine many association rules from large databases and it is not easy for a user to extract meaningful rules. visualization has become an important tool in the data mining process for extracting meaningful knowledge and information from large data sets. Though there are several techniques for visualizing mined association rules, most of these techniques visualize the entire set of discovered association rules on a single screen. Such a dense display can overwhelm analysts and reduce their capability of interpretation. In this paper we present a novel technique called VisAR for visualizing mined association rules. VisAR consists of four major stages for visualizing mined association rules. These stages include managing association rules, filtering association rules of interest, visualizing selected association rules, and interacting with the visualization process. Our technique allows an analyst to view only a particular subset of association rules which contain selected items of interest. VisAR is able to display not only many-to-one but also many-to-many association rules. Moreover, our technique can overcome problems of screen clutter and occlusion.
