We identified seven tools required to improve the productivity of design, construction and maintenance of bridges, They are product models, visualization system, communication tool, task systems with agents, database system, radio frequency identification (RFID) tags, and data reuse facility. These tools are to be integrated and used by owners, design consultants, contractors, manufacturers, etc., who can exchange and share structural, construction and inspection data, information and knowledge with this system.

Information Technologies (IT) are increasingly allowing for advances in monitoring and analysis of structural response. Sensor networks can provide real-time data streams, as a basis for system identification and decision-making. Fusion of video-derived information along with motion and strain sensors is already showing much promise. An integrated analysis framework encompasses data acquisition, database archiving, and model-free/model-based system identification/data mining techniques, towards the development of practical decision-making tools. Within this framework, data from experiments continues to provide much needed physical insight, as a basis for calibration of appropriate numerical models. In this regard, large-scale parallel computing and powerful visualization tools of soil-structure systems are a necessity.

This paper will illustrate the power of SVG in combination with JavaScript by showing an example of a data driven management information tool. Reducing a multi-paged, multi-column report to an easy to interpret visualization, accessible by any SVG-enabled browser. It will show you how to use the graphical attributes of the SVG elements like size, stroke, color, opacity, and position to present different reporting attributes. The strength of the application shown is the ease to introduce and use in a low budget Intranet or Internet environment. It is compact, and portable. It will work on-line as stand-alone. It is data driven with an error tolerant data interface. The SVG graphics are embedded in an HTML-page and JavaScript controls the generation of both tables and graphics. An application should be user-friendly. The user can customize his own default settings. The controls are accessible by use of your mouse, your numeric keypad or by defined hot-keys. You can choose to see the report as graphics or as a table with plain data. The example will show how a manager of an organization of over 10,000 employees, will be able to pinpoint and trace the part of his organization where people are not feeling happy. JavaScript will do the first analysis and will translate the information into SVG graphic display attributes. The manager will feel invited to do the final interpretation.

Transitive reduction is an edge-removing operation on directed graphs, that preserves some important properties and structures of the graph. After a presentation of this tool interest, we will show its properties and how to use it. An application of the process on a real-word large social network (public and famous Enron corpus [3]) built upon interaction data (email boxes) validates this approach.

We introduce the new nonlinear dimension reduction method: LTSA, in dealing with the difficulty of analyzing high-dimensional, nonlinear microarray data. Firstly, we analyze the applicability of the method and we propose the reconstruction error of LTSA. The method is tested on Iris data set and acute leukemias microarray data. The results show good visualization performance. And LTSA outperforms PCA on determining the reduced dimension. There is only subtle change in the clustering correctness after dimension reduction by LTSA. It is evident that application of nonlinear dimension reduction techniques could have a promising perspective in microarray dataanalysis.

Modern tools for visualization of information can be very helpful for dataanalysis and discovery of patterns in data. The paper describes a framework for documenting of findings using freehand drawings on top of the displays representing data. These drawings or marks become a basis for the annotations of the analyzed information. The marks are used to designate patterns in data and to refer to data elements with interesting characteristics. A model of datavisualization is described that allows encoding of marks in terms of the presented information. This brings independence of marks from the specifics of visualizing methods - the marks are adapted according to changes of the way the data is presented Such representation of marks also gives the possibility for the system to provide the user with information and statistics about the data referred by marks and to initiate visualizations showing the referred data in other perspectives.
