Graph rotation system is introduced recently as a new shape modeling method. It can guarantee the 2-mainfold property of a mesh while we change the topology of the mesh, and has the advantage of the simplicity of creating an artistic graph. A new data structure doubly linked face list is proposed, which can implement the operations of graph rotation system efficiently. However, the original edge operations of it cannot change the number of vertices of a mesh. Using point-sphere, the operations of edge can change the number, but the efficiency is not high. In this paper, the edge operations are modified to improve the efficiency. With this improvement, the algorithm of Catmull-Clark scheme based on graph rotation system is given. At the same time, an interactive shape modeling system based on graph rotation system is given.

The project described in this paper is an attempt to develop an integrated model for environmental research, which concentrates on the application spatial, and temporal analysis techniques to large-scale ecological data sets and includes satellite imagery and ground-based sensor data. The backbone of this project is a telecommunication system that can transport data recorded by environmental sensors to a knowledge base. Experimentation with tools for modeling and visualization is also in the scope of the research and bring in researchers from many fields including computer science, hydrology, mathematics, computer engineering, biology, marine sciences and electronics.

Polygonal meshes are used in many areas to model different objects and structures. Depending on their applications, they sometimes have to be processed to, for instance, reduce their complexity (simplification). This mesh processing introduces error, whose evaluation is important when choosing the kind of processing that is to be done for a particular application. Although some mesh comparison tools are described in the literature, little attention has been given to the way results are presented. A tool is presented which enhances the way users perform mesh analysis and comparison, by providing an environment where several visualization options are available and can be used in a coordinated way.

In the spring of 2005 a limited objective experiment was carried out to assess the feasibility of using agent based simulations to enhance co-evolutionary course of action development. In particular, relatively low fidelity simulations were employed to visualize the results of particular courses of action. Over four days multiple courses of action were developed by two opposing teams with similar force structures and then run against one another in an agent based modeling environment to test their ability to achieve the given mission. The results of the experiment indicate that there is significant potential for low fidelity simulations to stimulate objective thinking in course of action development

We introduce a technique to visualize the gradual evolutionary change of the shapes of living things as a morph between known three-dimensional shapes. Given geometric computer models of anatomical shapes for some collection of specimens - here the skulls of the some of the extant members of a family of monkeys - an evolutionary tree for the group implies a hypothesis about the way in which the shape changed through time. We use a statistical model which expresses the value of some continuous variable at an internal point in the tree as a weighted average of the values at the leaves. The framework of geometric morphometrics can then be used to define a shape-space, based on the correspondences of landmark points on the surfaces, within which these weighted averages can be realized as actual surfaces. Our software provides tools for performing and visualizing such an analysis in three dimensions. Beginning with laser range scans of crania, we use our landmark editor to interactively place landmark points on the surface. We use these to compute a "tree-morph" that smoothly interpolates the shapes across the tree. Each intermediate shape in the morph is a linear combination of all of the input surfaces. We create a surface model for an intermediate shape by warping all the input meshes towards the correct shape and then blending them together. To do the blending, we compute a weighted average of their associated trivariate distance functions and then extract a surface from the resulting function. We implement this idea using the squared distance function, rather than the usual signed distance function, in a novel way.

In this paper we propose a feature-based wavelet representation for image classification and visualization. The work is primarily motivated by the need to classify quickly and efficiently large multispectral satellite images, and possibly to perform the classification task directly on compressed data. We propose a multiresolution approach based on a special class of adaptive wavelets which allows the extraction of salient features without loosing accuracy.

A biometric information processing toolkit (BITK) is designed and implemented to support the biometrics research, e.g. algorithm development and performance evaluation. BITK is an object-oriented C++ software development toolkit (SDK), and it provides a consistent, flexible and reusable framework to integrate algorithms, data structures, and visualization methods. In addition, an application platform based on BITK (BITKAPP) is developed. BITKAPP makes the best of BITK to serve the biometrics researchers with its friendly user interface and the plug-in architecture. The meaningful applications of the toolkit and platform confirm that they effectively support the biometrics research.

The advent of Grid computing has enhanced our capabilities to model and simulate complex systems arising in scientific, engineering, and commercial applications. The premise of Grid computing has been "on-demand" availability of computational resources to an application as needed, in the same manner as electricity is provided readily through electrical power grids. The computational grid (or simply the "Grid") entails ubiquitous access to resources (local or remote), such as computation and communication resources, as well as access to storage systems and visualization systems. As Grid computing technologies mature, it behooves to look beyond the current capabilities, into more advanced future environments. The environments of interest here are the enhanced capabilities that can be created by the paradigm of Dynamic data Driven Applications Systems (DDDAS). DDDAS entails the ability to incorporate additional data into an executing application and, in reverse, the ability of applications to dynamically steer the measurement process. The DDDAS concept offers the promise of improving application models and methods, and augmenting the analysis and prediction capabilities of application simulations and the effectiveness of measurement systems. Enabling this synergistic feedback and control loop between application simulations and measurements requires novel application modeling approaches and frameworks, algorithms stable under dynamic data injection and steering conditions, and new systems software and computational infrastructure capabilities. Recent advances in complex applications and the advent of Grid computing and sensor systems are some of the technologies that make it timely to embark in developing DDDAS capabilities. DDDAS environments extend the current notion of Grid infrastructure to also include the measurement systems in an integrated and synergistic way. DDDAS environments require support and services that go beyond the current Grid services in terms of t
