Pollution sources census will provide data for the macro-control of environmental protection and management and promote economy structure adjustment and planning. datavisualization and processing for pollution sources census is practically meaningful for improving the pollution sources census digitalization and intelligence management level. Based on GIS and spatial database, an information management system for pollution sources census has been developed. It has some functions such as datavisualization, data query, data statistics and spatial analysis. Combined with the characteristics of environmental management, the system can provide efficient technical support and scientific basis for environment protection, total quantity control of pollution sources emissions, pollution sources management and economic structure optimization, et al. The experiment results show that it has a certain value and significance for census data exploration and application.

C-GROUP is a tool for analyzing dynamic group membership in social networks over time. Unlike most network visualization tools, which show the group structure within an entire network, or the group membership for a single actor, C-GROUP allows users to focus their analysis on a pair of individuals of interest. And unlike most dynamic social network visualization tools, which focus on the addition and deletion of nodes (actors) and edges (relationships) over time, C-GROUP focuses on changing group memberships over time. C-GROUP provides users with a flexible interface for defining (and redefining) groups interactively, and allows users to view the changing group memberships for the pair over time. This helps to highlight the similarities and differences between the individuals and their evolving group memberships. C-GROUP allows users to dynamically select the time granularity of the temporal evolution and supports two novel visual representations of the evolving group memberships. This flexibility gives users alternate views that are appropriate for different network sizes and provides users with different insights into the grouping behavior.

Multivariate visualization techniques are often used as assistant tools for classification tasks up to now. However, few classification systems fully utilize the capability of multivariate visualization and integrate them with multivariate analysis algorithms into a compact system. We propose an interactive visual classification model based on some multivariate graphical presentation in this paper. As an example of it, a visual classifier based on parallel coordinates plot is developed. The multivariate data is first mapped to the parallel coordinates plot, and then an optimizer based on linear discrintinant analysis optimizes it into the visualization more fit for classification tasks. This optimized visualization then can be processed by decision tree algorithm and attain classification rules. It has the merit of making the invisible visible and users can steer the classification process, consequently favor the understanding and knowledge discovery of original data.

We describe a datavisualization tool that allows a natural language call routing system designer to browse the data from high level routing target classes down to individual sentences. For each target class, automatic clustering creates groups that cluster similar requests. Relabeling data is much more efficient because a cluster of many sentences, instead of individual sentences, can be relabeled in one action. The tool also detects and displays potential confusions between sub-clusters across different classes. The confusability may be caused by erroneous labeling, in which case the entire sub-cluster can be relabeled. If the confusability is inherent, the system designer can design a disambiguation dialogue to clarify the caller's intent.

The 2007 US EPA report to Congress (US EPA, 2007) on the state of energy consumption in data centers brought to light the true energy inefficiencies built into today's data centers. Marquez et al. (2008) conducted an initial analysis on the productivity of a Pacific Northwest National Lab computer using The Green Grid's data Center Energy Productivity metric (The Green Grid, 2008). Their study highlights how the Top500 ranking of computers disguises the serious energy inefficiency of today's High Performance Computing data centers. In the rapidly expanding Cloud Computing space, the race will be won by the providers that deliver the lowest cost of computing such cost is heavily influenced by the operational costs incurred by data centers.

Spatial ability, which is positively correlated with retention and achievement in engineering, mathematics, and science disciplines, has been shown to improve over the course of a Computer-Aided Design course or through targeted training. However, whether increases in spatial ability are obtained from freshman to senior years simply by completing courses in an engineering curriculum has not been investigated. Furthermore, whether the spatial ability of undergraduate students affects their choice of engineering major has not been studied. To provide data with respect to these questions, portions of the Purdue Spatial visualization Test (PSVT) were administered to freshman and senior students from various engineering disciplines within a College of Engineering and Physical Science (CEPS). In addition, a self efficacy test, which was developed to assess the self confidence of students related to spatial tasks, was also administered. dataanalysis showed that spatial ability, while an important parameter for retention and achievement, does not affect the choice of major for engineering students. The data indicated that the spatial ability of students in engineering majors which rely more heavily on spatial ability skills (e.g. mechanical engineering) improved more than other engineering majors.

Advances in research and clinical techniques are providing increasing quantities of data at improved spatio-temporal resolution. It is therefore imperative to develop matching approaches for efficient analysis and intuitive presentation of this data. Using the example of advanced magnetic resonance imaging, this article will illustrate the challenges involved in computational reconstruction and interactive visualization of the three-dimensional cardiac anatomy, based on magnetic resonance imaging data with para-cellular resolution.
In this paper, we present an approach involving on-the-fly data extraction and rendering to achieve a real-time integration between analysis and visualization of atomistic simulation data. The integration is demonstra...

This paper describes progress towards developing a platform for rapid prototyping of interactive datavisualizations, using R, GGobi, rggobi and RGtk2. GGobi is a software tool for multivariate interactive graphics. At the core of GGobi is a data pipeline that incrementally transforms data through a series of stages into a plot and maps user interaction with the plot back to the data. The GGobi pipeline is extensible and mutable at runtime. The rggobi package, an interface from the R language to GGobi, has been augmented with a low-level interface that supports the customization of interactive datavisualizations through the extension and manipulation of the GGobi pipeline. The large size of the GGobi API has motivated the use of the RGtk2 code generation system to create the low-level interface between R and GGobi. The software is demonstrated through an application to interactive network visualization.
