Raw sensor data collected by monitoring networks requires use-case based post-processing prior to visualization or analysis. However, with larger monitoring projects accumulating raw data in the magnitude of gigabytes, it becomes infeasible to duplicate the entire data set for each analysis use case. Filtering the raw data prior to storage is also not an option since valuable information might be lost or distorted. With modern cloud computing techniques available, it now becomes possible to dynamically filter and process large sets or raw data in real time on a per request base. The paper presents such an approach using cascaded filters for data cross- correlation and visualization which is executed in parallel within a scalable multiprocessing web based environment (cloud). © 2015, International Society for Structural Health Monitoring of Intelligent Infrastructure, ISHMII. CL-SNA is a package for social network analysis written in Lisp. It provides a well defined data format for input and output of social network data supporting use of metadata, implementations of many metrics developed in the literature, a powerful and rich set of data export facilities for visualization and suspending the analysis session, and a robust and extensible API for future development. Being organized towards a social researcher's perspective, CL-SNA provides an easily workable and comprehensive environment for those engaged in quantitative analysis of social network structures. But even more importantly, it aims to accommodate the very needs of researchers in its future evolution through its design principles, and to be amenable to problem specific modification. In this paper, we present methods for visualizing various data received from environmental sensors into forms of 2D, 3D graphs and animation to manage fish farms in local area. Our visualization is user friendly and based on four main criteria: time, data, representation and analysis, and provides the focus+context view. The viewer selects what data to look at (i.e. a aquaculture farm to monitor, water quality parameters, and time period) and how to look at it at any time and from anywhere.

This paper presented a case study of how to integrate virtual reality (VR) technology with geographical information system (GIS) for the simulating the soil erosion process in Dong hen reservoir of Fujian province, China. The research work was divided into three parts: (1) building a three dimension simulated environment of the whole reservoir area with remotely sensed image SPOT5 and digital elevation model (DEM) driven from contour relief map, and (2) modeling the soil erosion process and visualizing the dynamic process on a computer, and (3) predicting, the father evolution of erosion process via changing the affecting factors and visualizing the future scenario the reservoir area. After introducing the profile of research site, we presented simulating reservoir project which based on the VRGIS is bringing forward. And the spatial information visualization of reservoir area is also implemented. Take the Dongzhen reservoir of Fujian province as the typical case, the environment condition and basin status around the reservoir area is simulate for display based on the VRGIS technology, the 3d simulation scene of soil and water erosion status and dam is build by the project of water and soil conservation Simultaneity. Through this method, combined the integration of flood analysis feature and 3D spatial, using the special function of GIS in spatial data processing and analysis, the unite of data and graph of monitor and predict system of water and soil erosion is also realized, the scientific characteristic of monitor and prediction of water and soil erosion is also strengthened, provide a reliable information source for reducing the harm of water and soil erosion.

We present ExperiScope, an analytical tool to help designers and experimenters explore the results of quantitative evaluations of interaction techniques. ExperiScope combines a new visualization incorporating aspects of the KLM and the three-state model with an interface helping users to rapidly cluster similar patterns of interactions. The tool makes it easy to identify and compare key patterns of use encountered during data collection. This promotes a deeper understanding of the results of a given evaluation. We illustrate the advantages of this tool by revisiting the data collected for an experiment conducted by Hinckley et al. [19] which compared different mode switching techniques. Our results show that our tool complements the previously reported results by offering insights about error behavior and the impact of mode switching on user performance. By providing a more fine-grained analysis of the data gathered during empirical evaluations, we hope that our tool will improve researchers' understanding of existing and newly developed interaction techniques.

The performability of disk arrays systems has been studied before. However, in the case of imprecise data, a fuzzy model can be the base for the performability analysis. This paper presents a performability analysis of an MSExchange-like e-mail server. The analysis is based on a Markov Reward model. The performability analysis is accomplished through the use of fuzzy arithmetic. Unlike traditional Markov Chains, Fuzzy Markov Chains can successfully handle uncertain, imprecise probabilities. In cases where the failure rates, repair rates, or the workload parameters are uncertain, Markov Chains enhanced with fuzzy arithmetic provide means for comprehensive predictive performability analysis of a system. This performability analysis provides a valuable guideline regarding required resources such as the number of mailboxes, and therefore, the number of users the mail server can support with regards to the reliability and performance of the disk array used by the mail server. The fuzzy arithmetic helps in better visualization and estimation of the range of number of users the mail server is capable of servicing over long periods of time.

Multi-finger calipers have provided an excellent overview of internal tubing condition for the past fifty years. However, understanding the fine details of pipe condition over short intervals required familiarity and training in interpreting the raw curves produced by these tools. The development of digital caliper data and 3D visualization software has dramatically altered pipe condition evaluation at Prudhoe Bay, Alaska. 3D visualization software allows the average engineer to quickly and accurately understand the details of localized tubing damage. Additionally, computer processing of digital caliper data supports quick correlation of tubing damage to wellbore geometry, other leak detection logs, previous caliper data of the same well interval, and cross-correlation of data from different wells. This has resulted in dramatic improvements to recent wellwork decisions, allowing surgical placement of patches, plugs, and whipstocks. Caliper logs have been used to assess scale buildup prior to coiled tubing scale removal operations and have been run after removal to evaluate job effectiveness. Additionally, areal corrosion trends and velocity effects have been identified, resulting in recommendations to deter damage. This paper presents several examples of how 3D visualization software has led to improved wellwork operations based on a study of approximately 500 calipers run in the Eastern Operating Area of Prudhoe Bay, Alaska. We develop a method for automatic colorization of images (or two-dimensional fields) in order to visualize pixel values and their local differences. In many applications, local differences in pixel values are as important as their values. For example, in topography, both elevation and slope often must be considered. Gradient-based value mapping (GBVM) is a technique for colorizing pixels based on value (e.g., intensity or elevation) and gradient (e.g., local differences or slope). The method maps pixel values to a color scale (either gray-scale or pseudocolor) in a manner that emphasizes gradients in the image while maintaining ordinal relationships of values. GBVM is especially useful for high-precision data, in which the number of possible values is large. Colorization with GBVM is demonstrated with data from comprehensive two-dimensional gas chromatography (GCxGC), using both gray-scale and pseudocolor to visualize both small and large peaks, and with data from the Global Land One-Kilometer Base Elevation (GLOBE) Project, using gray-scale to visualize features that are not visible in images produced with popular value-mapping algorithms. The ecoinformatics community recognizes that ecological synthesis across studies, space, and time will require new informatics tools and infrastructure. Recent advances have been encouraging, but many problems still face ecologists who manage their own datasets, prepare data for archiving, and search data stores for synthetic research. In this paper, we describe how work by the Canopy database Project (CDP) might enable use of database technology by field ecologists: increasing the quality of database design, improving data validation, and providing structural and semantic metadata - all of which might improve the quality of data archives and thereby help drive ecological synthesis. The CDP has experimented with conceptual components for database design, templates, to address information technology issues facing ecologists. Templates represent forest structures and observational measurements on these structures. using our software, researchers select templates to represent their study's data and can generate normalized relational databases. information hidden in those databases is used by ancillary tools, including data intake forms and simple data validation, data visualization, and metadata export. The primary question we address in this paper is, which templates are the right templates. We argue for defining simple templates (with relatively few attributes) that describe the domain's major entities, and for coupling those with focused and flexible observation templates. We present a conceptual model for the observation data type, and show how we have implemented the model as an observation entity in the dataBank database designer and generator. We show how our visualization tool CanopyView exploits metadata made explicit by dataBank to help scientists with analysis and synthesis. In this paper, we propose an adaptive seeding strategy for visualization of diffusion tensor magnetic resonance imaging (DT-MRI) data using strearntubes. DT-MRI is a medical imaging modality that captures unique water diffusion properties and fiber orientation information of the imaged tissues. Visualizing DT-MRI data using strearntubes has the advantage that not only the anisotropic nature of the diffusion is visualized but also the underlying anatomy of biological structures is revealed. This makes strearntubes significant for the analysis of fibrous tissues in medical images. In order to avoid rendering multiple similar streamtubes, an adaptive seeding strategy is employed which takes into account similarity of tensors in a given region. The goal is to automate the process of generating seed points such that regions with dissimilar tensors are assigned more seed points compared to regions with similar tensors. The algorithm is based on tensor dissimilarity metrics that take into account both diffusion magnitudes and directions to optimize the seeding positions and density of streamtubes in order to reduce the visual clutter. Two recent advances in tensor calculus and tensor dissimilarity metrics are utilized: the Log-Euclidean and the J-divergence. Results show that adaptive seeding not only helps to cull unnecessary strearntubes that would obscure visualization but also do so without having to compute the culled strearntubes, which makes the visualization process faster.
