visualization based on graph drawing allows the identification, the evaluation of passed and present structures between actors and concepts. It also allows the deduction of future ones. VisuGraph is developed in order to offer to the users the visualization and the interactive classification of relational data. We propose to complete this prototype with a morphing algotihm which animates with fluidity the representation between different time periods, emphasizing major elements and significant tendencies.

This paper describes mechanisms for asynchronous collaboration in the context of information visualization, recasting visualizations as not just analytic tools, but social spaces. We contribute the design and implementation of ***, a web site supporting asynchronous collaboration across a variety of visualization types. The site supports view sharing, discussion, graphical annotation, and social navigation and includes novel interaction elements. We report the results of user studies of the system, observing emergent patterns of social data analysis, including cycles of observation and hypothesis, and the complementary roles of social navigation and data-driven exploration.

Models of real world systems are being increasingly generated from data that describes the behaviour of systems. data mining techniques, such as Artificial Neural Networks (ANN), generate models almost independently and deliver accurate models in a very short time. These models (sometimes called black box models) have complex internal structures that are difficult to interpret and we have very limited information about the credibility of their output. A model can be trusted just for certain configurations of input variables, but it is hard to determine which output is based on training data and which is random. In this paper, we present visualization techniques for exploration of models. Primary goal is to consider the behavior of the model in the neighborhood of the data vectors. The next goal is to estimate and locate the ranges in input space where the models are credible. We have developed visualization techniques both for regression and classification problems. Finally, we present an algorithm that is able to automatically locate the most interesting visualizations in the vast multidimensional space of input variables.

The use of aerial photographs, satellite images, scanned maps and digital elevation models necessitates the setting up of strategies for the storag and visualization of these data in an interactive way. In order to obtain,e a three dimensional visualization it is necessary to map the images, called textures, onto the terrain geometry computed with Digital Elevation Model (DEM). Practically, all of these informations are stored in three different files: DEM, texture and geo-localization of the data. In this paper we propose to save all this information in a single file for the purpose of synchronization. For this, we have developed a wavelet-based embedding method for hiding the data in a color image. The texture images containing hidden DEM data can then be sent from the server to a client in order to effect 3D visualization of terrains. The embedding method is integrable with the JPEG2000 coder to accommodate compression and multi-resolution visualization.

Massive dataset sizes can make visualization difficult or impossible. One solution to this problem is to divide a dataset into smaller pieces and then stream these pieces through memory, running algorithms on each piece. This paper presents a modular data-flow visualization system architecture for culling and prioritized data streaming. This streaming architecture improves program performance both by discarding pieces of the input dataset that are not required to complete the visualization, and by prioritizing the ones that are. The system supports a wide variety of culling and prioritization techniques, including those based on data value, spatial constraints, and occlusion tests. Prioritization ensures that pieces are processed and displayed progressively based on an estimate of their contribution to the resulting image. Using prioritized ordering, the architecture presents a progressively rendered result in a significantly shorter time than a standard visualization architecture. The design is modular, such that each module in a user-defined data-flow visualization program can cull pieces as well as contribute to the final processing order of pieces. In addition, the design is extensible, providing an interface for the addition of user-defined culling and prioritization techniques to new or existing visualization modules.

Rendering a lot of data results in cluttered visualizations. It is difficult for a user to find regions of interest from contextual data especially when occlusion is considered. We incorporate animations into visualization by adding positional motion and opacity change as a highlighting mechanism. By leveraging our knowledge on motion perception, we can help a user to visually filter out her selected data by rendering it with animation. Our framework of adding animation is the animation transfer function, where it provides a mapping from data and animation frame index to a changing visual property. The animation transfer function describes animations for user selected regions of interest. In addition to our framework, we explain the implementation of animations as a modification of the rendering pipeline. The animation rendering pipeline allows us to easily incorporate animations into existing software and hardware based volume renderers.

Excessive edge density in graphs can cause serious readability issues, which in turn can make the graphs difficult to understand or even misleading. Recently, we introduced the idea of providing tools that offer interactive edge e, presenting a bending as a method by which edge congestion can be disambiguated. We extend this direction. new tool, Edge Plucking, which offers new interactive methods to clarify node-edge relationships. Edge Plucking expands the number of situations in which interactive graph exploration tools can be used to address edge congestion.

Intra-operative MRI (iMRI) is a new technology that allows near real time updates of scans during a surg ical procedure under the magnet. From an initial comprehensive scan, 3D volumes are obtained. During the surgery, only the portion of the organ under surgery needs to be re-scan (region of interest - ROI) in order to guide the progress of the surgery, and validate the procedure. In this paper we describe a registration approach which can be used for iMRI applications. Registration is performed through a hybrid of the surface point signature approach (SPS) and the maximization of the mutual information (MI) criterion. We demonstrate the approach on some real data. Pivot tables are the de-facto standard paradigm for the visualization of data in the context of multidimensional OLAP analysis. However it is recognized that they are not suited, in their original definition, to support spatio-temporal data analysis (and in particular geographical measures). In this paper, we propose the GeOlaPivot Table, a visual metaphor intended as an extension of the pivot tables specifically conceived to assist decision makers in analyzing geographical measures in spatial data warehouses. In order to show the analysis capabilities of our metaphor we describe it using an example concerning the supervision of infectious diseases in Italy. This approach represents a first effort in adapting advanced geovisualization techniques to SOLAP ones, in order to create a specific visual paradigm for Spatial OLAP able to effectively support and fully exploit spatial multidimensional analysis process. Moreover, we present an architecture for a web-based environment able to support geographical measures in SOLAP analyses exploiting the GeOlaPivot Table visual metaphor.

A new visualization method of time series data change, a statistical shape analysis method, is presented. The shape analysis method was originally developed for image analyses in biology. However the analysis power can also be used in economics and socio-science, and the visualization is effective to understand the changes. The statistical shape analysis method has a feature to extract separately an Affine transformation part and a non-Affine one. The Affine transformation shows the total trend of all the data and the non-Affine one shows a local movement of one landmark which is specific to the landmark. To see the both, we can visually understand changes among the time series data. In this paper, we will present the visualization using Indonesia data on fertility rate and education status between the year 2007 and 2012.
