For complex medical image segmentation tasks which also require high accuracy, prior information must usually be generated in order to initialize and confine the action of the computational tools. This can be obtained by task oriented specialization layers operating within automatic segmentation techniques or by advanced exploitation of user- data interaction, in this case the segmentation technique can conserve generality and results can be inherently validated by the user itself, in the measure he is allowed to effectively steer the process towards the desired result. In this paper we present a highly accurate and still general morphological 3D segmentation system where rapid convergence to the desired result is guaranteed by a two-way interactive segmentation-refinement loop, where the flow of prior information is inverted (from computing tools to the user) in the refinement phase in order to help the user to quickly select most effective refinement strategies.

Kernel methods have been widely studied in the field of pattern recognition. These methods implicitly map, "the kernel trick," the data into a space which is more appropriate for analysis. Many manifold learning and dimensionality reduction techniques are simply kernel methods for which the mapping is explicitly computed. In such cases, two problems related with the mapping arise: The out-of-sample extension and the pre-image computation. In this paper we propose a new pre-image method based on the Nystrom formulation for the out-of-sample extension, showing the connections between both problems. We also address the importance of normalization in the feature space, which has been ignored by standard pre-image algorithms. As an example, we apply these ideas to the Gaussian kernel, and relate our approach to other popular pre-image methods. Finally, we show the application of these techniques in the study of dynamic shapes.

Although Electroencephalographic (EEG) signal synchronization studies have been a topic of increasing interest lately, there is no similar effort in the visualization of such measures. In this direction a graph-theoretic approach devised to study and stress the coupling dynamics of task-performing dynamical networks is proposed. Both linear and nonlinear interdependence measures are investigated in an alcoholism paradigm during mental rehearsal of pictures, which is known to reflect synchronization impairment. More specifically, the widely used magnitude squared coherence;phase synchronization and a robust nonlinear state-space generalized synchronization assessment method are investigated. This paper mostly focuses on a signal-based technique of selecting the optimal visualization threshold using surrogate datasets to correctly identify the most significant correlation patterns. Furthermore, a graph statistical parameter attempts to capture and quantify collective motifs present in the functional brain network. The results are in accordance with previous psychophysiology studies suggesting that an alcoholic subject has impaired synchronization of brain activity and loss of lateralization during the rehearsal process, most prominently in alpha (8-12Hz) band, as compared to a control subject. Lower beta (13-30Hz) synchronization was also evident in the alcoholic subject.

In this paper,a new data mining method is proposed on the basis of parallel coordinate for early warning of landslides. Landslides have resulted in many severe casualties and damaged structures and *** proposed method is to analyse the landslide problems emerged with the parallel coordinates and its visualization *** may simplify the establishment of complex model,and promote the visualization and analysis ability of spatial data,make closer relationship between spatial data and attribute data,and finally improve the effectiveness of landslide early warning.

Recently, tools for the analysis and visualization of code coverage have become widely available. At first glance, their value in assessing and improving the quality of automated test suites seems to be obvious. Yet, experimental studies as well as experience from projects in industry indicate that their use is not without pitfalls. We found these tools in a number of recent projects quite beneficial. Therefore, we set out to gather code coverage information from one of these projects. In this experience report, first the system under scrutiny as well as our methodology is described. Then, four major questions concerning the impact and benefits of using these tools are discussed. Furthermore, a list of ten lessons learned is derived. The list may help developers judiciously use code coverage tools, in order to reap a maximum of benefits.

Through methods of visualization, maps of the core research groups of enterprise risk management (1994-2007) are drawn to identify the intellectual structure of current researches in the field of enterprise risk management. This study is based on bibliographic data retrieved from the Web of Science. The maps of the core research groups of enterprise risk management demonstrate the status of and relationships among 157 most cited authors. The present study also discusses the most cited papers of the most influential authors of each group and the main research fields of group representatives such as Porter Michael, Daniel Kahneman, Harry Markowitz, and Fisher Black. These authors have made great contributions to the development of current enterprise risk management, and the research fields of them deserve the attention of other researchers in the field of enterprise risk management.

Most test coverage analyzers help in evaluating the effectiveness of testing by providing data on statement and branch coverage achieved during testing. If made available, the coverage information can be very useful for many other related activities, like, regression testing, test case prioritization, test-suite augmentation, test-suite minimization, etc. In this paper, we present a Java-based tool JavaCodeCoverage for test coverage reporting. It supports testing and related activities by recording the test coverage for various code-elements and updating the coverage information when the code being tested is modified. The tool maintains the test coverage information for a set of test cases on individual as well as test suite basis and provides effective visualization for the same. Open source database support of the tool makes it very useful for software testing research

This work describes a web browser-based remote visualization capability for large datasets. We discuss recent enhancements including access to databases and remote resources, as well as the addition of two image compression algorithms and their effect on performance. Results indicate that the existing sequential unified- channel image run transmission (SQUIRT) image compression algorithm performs best for large bandwidth situations while the new binary set splitting with k-d trees (BISK) algorithm works better than the previous JPEG compression scheme. The results from a study on encryption effects on the data stream show that encryption does not add a significant amount of overhead.

We present NodeXL, an extendible toolkit for network overview, discovery and exploration implemented as an add-in to the Microsoft Excel 2007 spreadsheet software. We demonstrate NodeXL data analysis and visualization features with a social media data sample drawn from an enterprise intranet social network. A sequence of NodeXL operations from data import to computation of network statistics and refinement of network visualization through sorting, filtering, and clustering functions is described. These operations reveal sociologically relevant differences in the patterns of interconnection among employee participants in the social media space. The tool and method can be broadly applied.

Highspeed cameras form a central component of photogrammetric 3D measurement systems in applications requiring a high temporal resolution in fields such as fast object tracking or high frequency deformation measurement. Current highspeed cameras offer data rates in the order of 1 Gigabyte per second or beyond, delivering for instance 1000 frames per second at 1000x1000 pixels. Most applications using highspeed cameras for visualization or measurement purposes are still 2D. Highspeed camera stereo systems are rare because of the costs of cameras and the lack of synchronizibility of some camera types. The paper gives a short overview on single camera 3D measurement system concepts. It presents two concepts of setting up photogrammetric 3D measurement systems based on a single highspeed camera in detail, one based on a single camera with a stereo mirror system and one on based on a camera-projector combination: A stereo mirror system in front of a camera generates multiple views on one sensor. These views can be considered virtual cameras of a multi-camera photogrammetric measurement system. The paper presents a flexible quadruple-mirror system to be used in 3D motion analysis applications and discusses geometric modeling and system calibration. Photogrammetric surface measurement systems can be configured by a camera and a projector device projecting strip or dot patterns onto a surface. Using the projector as an active element in the system design, dense and accurate 3D surface representations may be generated using coded light approach or phase shift techniques. In the geometric modeling and calibration, the projector can be considered an inverse camera with infinite frame rate. The paper presents results of an accuracy test obtaining a precision potential in the order of (1)/(50) pixel from a standard consumer-grade beamer. Besides the system design and the geometric modeling of the two concepts, the paper shows results from pilot studies and practical applications
