This paper presents a novel data-driven method for creating varied realistic face models by synthesizing a set of facial features according to intuitive high-level control parameters. Our method takes as examples 3D face scans in order to exploit the variations presented in the real faces of individuals. We use an automatic model fitting approach for the 3D registration problem. Once we have a common surface representation for each example, we form feature shape spaces by applying principal component analysis (PCA) to the data sets of facial feature shapes. Using PCA coefficients as a compact shape representation, we approach the shape synthesis problem by forming scattered data interpolation functions that are devoted to the generation of desired shape by taking the anthropometric parameters as input. The correspondence among all exemplar textures is obtained by parameterizing a 3D generic mesh over a 2D image domain. The new feature texture with desired attributes is synthesized by interpolating the example textures. Apart from an initial tuning of feature point positions and assignment of texture attribute values, our method is fully automated.

In this work, a methodology for quantitative technology evaluation for systems-of-systems is defined. Physics-based models of an aircraft system are exercised within a hierarchical, object-oriented constructive simulation to quantify technology potential in the context of a relevant scenario. Neural network surrogate models and agent-based modeling are leveraged to provide a battle management and technology exploitation capabilities to individual assets in the simulation. Surrogate models are also used around the simulation to perform rapid domain-spanning technology exploration. Since a large amount of data is produced in the analysis of systems-of-systems, dynamic, interactive visualization techniques are used to enable "what-if games on assumptions, systems, technologies, tactics, and evolving threats to enable decision making with respect to technology investment.

Can e-learning systems effectively provide useful information to help teachers prevent students dropping out and failing as well as other access patterns useful to improve the pace of teaching? We present the data resulting from the analysis of a series of university courses in two different universities, one in Madrid, Spain, and the other one in London, United Kingdom. In order to do so, we have collected data from October 2006 to July 2007 from 400 students from 6 different courses interacting one way or the other with their e-learning platform. Thus, in these two countries a different e-learning tracking system was used to obtain the information about access; in the first one, an Ad-hoc Tracking System called Merlin placed in an in house e-learning system, and in the second one, the standard Blackboard tracking system was used.

Pollution sources census will provide data for the macro-control of environmental protection and management and promote economy structure adjustment and planning. data visualization and processing for pollution sources census is practically meaningful for improving the pollution sources census digitalization and intelligence management level. Based on GIS and spatial database, an information management system for pollution sources census has been developed. It has some functions such as data visualization, data query, data statistics and spatial analysis. Combined with the characteristics of environmental management, the system can provide efficient technical support and scientific basis for environment protection, total quantity control of pollution sources emissions, pollution sources management and economic structure optimization, et al. The experiment results show that it has a certain value and significance for census data exploration and application.

Supporting the visualization and analysis needs of the users of the Department of Energy's premiere high-performance computing centers requires a careful engineering of software and hardware system architectures to provide maximum capability and algorithmic breadth. data set growth follows an inverse power law that has implications for the platforms that are deployed for analysis and visualization;central storage and coupled analysis platforms are critical for petascale post-production. Software architectures like VisIt - which exploit parallel platforms, as well as provide remote capability, extensibility, and optimization - are fruitful ground for delivering new analysis capabilities for petascale applications. Finally, direct interaction with customers is key to deploying successful results. © 2007 IOP Publishing Ltd.

Tremendous amount of data is available digitally now a days and therefore need arises for a system which can automatically track any copying of data without permission. Copying of others copyright material is an illegal act. Plagiarism as it is called, is an act of copying others literary works and posing as though it is ones own work. Here in this paper we have developed a system which can automatically detect plagiarism and also uses the data to visualize the plagiarized document. A detector cell is created which will collect all the detected plagiarized information. Detector cell is created based on three criteria namely copying, reordering and replacing. Exact copy of the sentences are detected by checking sentence replication of certain sentences where keywords occur frequently. Reordering is possible by structurally modifying the sentences by changing the order of words. Replacement is done by replacing certain words with their synonyms in the copied sentences. As soon as the plagiarized sentences are detected the detector cell collects the information and updates itself for future references. Later the entire document is modeled as a plain three dimensional terrain surface over which the detector cell information is applied and therefore the plagiarized sentences appear as elevated surfaces and all other sentences appear as plain flat surface. The exact copy of sentences will have more elevation when compared to structurally reordered sentences and replacement sentences which are modeled as having less elevation. This modeling helps users in analyzing the document with respect to the amount of information copied, spatial location of copied sentences and the behaviour of plagiarism. This also helps in knowing the sentences which are plagiarized the most from multiple sources. The use of dynamic information to aid in software understanding is a common practice nowadays. One of the many approaches concerns the comprehension of execution traces. A major issue in this context is scalability: due to the vast amounts of information, it is a very difficult task to successfully find your way through such traces without getting lost. In this paper, we propose the use of a novel trace visualization method based on a massive sequence and circular bundle view, constructed with scalability in mind. By means of three usage scenarios that were conducted on three different software systems, we show how our approach, implemented in a tool called EXTRAVIS, is applicable to the areas of trace exploration, feature location, and feature comprehension.

High complexity of formal concept, analysis algorithms and lattice construction algorithms are main problems today. If we want to compute all concepts from huge incidence matrix, complexity plays a great role. In some cases, we do not need to compute all concepts, but only some of them. Our research focuses on behavior of the concept lattice reduction after using matrix decompositions. Modified matrix has lower dimensions and acts as input for some known algorithms for lattice construction. In this paper we want to describe the deferent between methods for matrix decompositions and describe their influence on the concept lattice.

In this paper we discuss and demonstrate how traditional literature reviews may be enriched by computer-assisted research profiling. Research profiling makes use of sophisticated text mining tools designed for structured science and technology information resources, such as the ISI Web of science, INSPEC or ABI/INFORM ProQuest. Besides aiding in summarizing and visualizing knowledge domains, these research mining tools act as interactive decision support systems for researchers. We illustrate research profiling with 2.000 publications on group support systems between years 1982-2005

In this paper, we propose a new approach, called local and weighted maximum margin discriminant analysis (LWMMDA), to performing object discrimination. LWMMDA is a subspace learning method that identifies the underlying nonlinear manifold for discrimination. The goal of LWMMDA is to seek a transformation such that data points of different classes are projected as far as possible while points within a same class are as compact as possible. The projections are obtained by maximizing a new discriminant criterion, called local and weighted maximum margin criterion (LWMMC). Different from previous maximum margin criterion (MMC) which seeks only the globally Euclidean structure of data points, LWMMC takes the local property into account, which makes LWMMC more accurate in finding discriminant information. LWMMC has an additional weighted parameter β that further broadens the average margin between different classes. Computationally, LWMMDA completely avoids the singularity problem. Besides, LWMMDA couples the QR-decomposition into its framework, which makes LWMMDA very efficient and stable in implementation. Finally, LWMMDA framework is straightforwardly extended into the reproducing kernel Hilbert space induced by a nonlinear function ϕ. Experiments on digit visualization, face recognition, and facial expression recognition are presented to show the effectiveness of the proposed method.
