Course visualization, which is carried out by analysing the access log of the Course Management System, is very effective in revealing the learning activity of students. However, there are few practices of course visualization for lack of a procedure guideline and difficulties concerning the analysis of learning-activity data. Authors have already proposed a procedure guideline for course visualization to reduce the number of problems and have executed the process according to the guideline. In this paper, at first, the procedure guideline and examples of course visualization will be shown. Next, this paper describes the design concept and the software structure of course visualization platform (VisP) for spreading these visualization practices to the E-learning community. It will be easy to visualize the learning activity of students, when the platform is used. As the result, we will get effective feedback to instructors and students for the formative evaluation of a course.

Performance analysis on a conventional distributed system consisting of a static (usually homogeneous) pool of computational resources comprises various techniques related to instrumentation, data collection, measurement, analysis and visualization. However, in a heterogeneous, dynamic environment, like Grid, post-mortem analysis is of no use and data needs to be collected and analyzed in real time. Novel techniques are also required for dynamically tuning the application's performance and resource brokering in order to maintain the desired QoS. The objective of this paper is to present an agent framework for performance monitoring and analysis of applications running in Grid environment and implementation of local tuning techniques for improving their performances. Results of a preliminary implementation are also presented in order to demonstrate the effectiveness of the agent framework.

Big data, structured and unstructured data, contains millions attributes in multiple dimensions. This has arisen threeissues: 1) how to measure the structured and unstructured multidimensional data patterns for Big dataanalysis;2) how to display multidimensional data patterns in normal size of screen;3) how to optimize the data attributes in Big datavisualization. In this work, we have visual analyzed Big datavariety based on the complexity of multidimensional data. Firstly, we introduce2D dimension which divided the multidimensional dataset into 2D data pattern subsets, and then establish 2D-Ratio algorithm to measure 2D dimension in multiple data patterns. Second, we createtwo additional parallel axes by using 2D-Ratio to compare 2D dimensional patterns for visualization. Third, the dimension clustering and shrunk attribute have been introduced in 2D-Ratio parallel coordinates to reduce the data over-crowed. The experiment shows that our model can be efficiently and accurately used for Big dataanalysis and visualization.

In this paper we describe our experiences and lessons learned from two user studies about the effects of short-term memory on dataanalysis tasks with graphical user interface and virtual environment. visualization is a powerful tool for representing scientific data for analysis purpose. Current research progress enables us to create a high fidelity visual representation of scientific data. However, the value of traditional graphical user interface and Virtual Reality (VR) as human computer interface in dataanalysis via visualization tool is questioned by the domain scientists. We carried out two user studies that asked users to perform dataanalysis tasks. The first user study compared the user performance on selecting and manipulating transfer function (TF) with different graphical user interfaces in volume visualization to search certain structures within a 3D data set. The second user study investigated the performance difference of immersive VR, fish tank VR and haptic-based fish tank VR systems on four generic visualization tasks. The two user studies indicates that short-term memory plays an important role in 3D user interaction during dataanalysis task. The pitfall of 3D user interface design for scientific visualization is that too many efforts have been put into the interface itself or technology, rather than designing user interface to match or amplify human capabilities, for instance the limit amount of short term memory and its importance in dataanalysis process.

A new method for visualization of EEG-process is developed, using factorial analysis. This method permits data compression and visualization in form adequate for human to trace continuous change patterns, compare data from brain hemispheres and delete appearing artifacts using combined man-computer mode for achieving additional reliability. Accordingly, this method is realized in software which allows an operator to select various modes of representation of results and speed of visualization.

As dataanalysis tasks often have to face the analysis of huge and complex data sets there is a need for new algorithms that combine vector quantization and mapping methods to visualize the hidden data structure in a low-dimensional vector space. In this paper a new class of algorithms is defined. Topology representing networks are applied to quantify and disclose the data structure and different nonlinear mapping algorithms for the low-dimensional visualization are applied for the mapping of the quantized data. To evaluate the main properties of the resulted topology representing network based mapping methods a detailed analysis based on the wine benchmark example is given.

A public health-care system (HCS) is a complex system that requires permanent monitoring. This paper focuses on the Slovenian national HCS subsystem consisting of a network of health-care professionals at the primary care level. The challenge addressed in this paper is the development and application of intelligent dataanalysis, decision support and visualization methods aimed to improve the monitoring of human resources of this network. The main outcome is a set of proposed performance indicators and the developed model for monitoring the network of primary health-care professionals of Slovenia. The model enables improved planning and management through dataanalysis and visualization modules developed for the monitoring of physicians' qualification, age, workload and dispersion.

We describe a system that enables us to perform exploratory empirical experiments with graph visualization techniques by incorporating them into games that can be played on an internet site, the Graph Games Website (http://***/projects/graphmotion/). We present a general discussion of games as a test-bed for empirical experiments in graph comprehension, and explain why they might, in particular, provide a useful way to do exploratory experiments. We then discuss the requirements for games that can be used and describe some individual games including those we have tried on our own site. The main part of the paper describes our own experiment in setting up a graph-gaming site where we have carried out tests on the benefits of different graph visualizations. We discuss the design of the site, describe its underlying architecture and present a promising initial trial on movement in graph visualization that gathered the results from over 70,000 played games. We then present some statistical conclusions that can be drawn from the resulting data. Finally, we summarize the lessons that have been learned and discuss ideas for future work.
