Understanding vector fields resulting from large scientific simulations is an important and often difficult task. Streamlines, curves that are tangential to a vector field at each point, are a powerful visualization method in this context. Application of streamline-based visualization to very large vector field data represents a significant challenge due to the non-local and data-dependent nature of streamline computation, and requires careful balancing of computational demands placed on I/O, memory, communication, and processors. In this paper we review two parallelization approaches based on established parallelization paradigms (static decomposition and on-demand loading) and present a novel hybrid algorithm for computing streamlines. Our algorithm is aimed at good scalability and performance across the widely varying computational characteristics of streamline-based problems. We perform performance and scalability studies of all three algorithms on a number of prototypical application problems and demonstrate that our hybrid scheme is able to perform well in different settings.

This paper will show how R can be used to do these, and other, procedures that will enhance your ability to better analyze performance data.

As the development of the instruments and technology to acquire geospatial information, more and more geographical information contains spatial-temporal information, as a result, temporal-GIS(Temporal-Geographic Information System, TGIS for short) comes into being. Temporal-GIS could analyze and solve the spatial evolvement characteristics in geographical phenomenon, and reproduce the spatial-temporal scene of real world. This project is focusing on the dynamic visualization of geospatial data based on temporal-GIS, designing the interpreter arithmetic for geospatial polygon dynamic display, building dynamic display model based on temporal-GIS, subsequently, the model is used to analysis and solve the dynamic evolution characteristics of geographic phenomenon, reproduce the real-world temporal -spatial scenes, predict the developing trend of geo-data with the visualization methods.

Multimodal tomographic images (e.g., MRI, PET images) provide important information for research, diagnosis and therapy of brain diseases. Structural and functional properties and changes in cortical brain regions are often examined quantitatvely in certain volumes of interest (VOIs) bounded by tissue borders and cortical sulci as important VOI borders. Thus, VOI segmentation is an important prerequisite for this kind of brain analysis. In order to avoid time-consuming slice-by-slice segmentation of VOIs, the new semi-automatic method aims at segmenting cortical VOIs based on 3D brain surface visualization and thus defining VOI borders along cortical sulci much easily than in successive 2D slices. The method was evaluated based on phantoms with simulated sulcus and class properties and real brain data sets. Promising results were obtained regarding segmentation accuracy and computation time.
