We introduce two uncertainty visualizations for 2D bidirectional vector fields: one based on a static glyph and the other based on animated flow. These visualizations were designed for the task of understanding and interpreting anisotropic rock property models in the domain of seismic data processing. The classification of an unknown item based on a training data set is a key data mining task. An important part Of this process that is often overlooked is the user's comprehension of the classifier and the results it produces. Associative classifiers begin to address this issue by using sets of simple rules to classify items. However the size of these rule sets can be an obstacle to understandability. In this work, we present an interactive visualization system that allows the user to visualize various aspects of the classifier's decision process. This system shows the rules that are relevant to the classification of an item, the ways in which the item's characteristics relate to these rules, and connections between the item and the classifier's training data set. The system also contains a speculation component, which allows the user to modify rules within the classifier, and see the impact of these changes. Thus, this component allows the user to contribute domain expertise to the classification process, consequently improving the accuracy of the classifier.

According to the entity-based concept of GIS, an entity is defined as an independent existent object type in the real world which is composed of spatial features and attributes. Following this concept, if the 3D building models are introduced to a GIS environment for query process and dataanalysis, the attributes should be reorganized corresponding to the spatial data. This paper investigates the changes of a GIS environment in the aspects of visualization, query process, and dataanalysis when the 3D city model is introduced. In the future, the entity-based 3D city model will be developed which is not only for visualization, but also can be used for query process and dataanalysis as a GIS.

Ambient intelligence is a rapidly developing field producing a new generation of applications and services demanding new, more complex strategies for usability testing and evaluation. In this paper, we identify caveats of traditional methods of application usability testing when applied to an ambient intelligent environment and we introduce a method for unified analysis of user behavior using a virtual environment visualization. For the usability testing in ambient environments, we propose to transform data (both data recorded in real settings and data artificially created by experts) into a virtual environment to cope with the following issues: a) overwhelming amount of data, b) proprietary data formats, and c) ethical codices issues. We describe a tool for creation of expert evaluation data and for transformation of data from video recordings and illustrate its use on two cases.

Network scans visualization provides very effective means for to detection large scale network scans. Many visualization methods have been developed to monitor network traffic, but all the techniques or tools still heavily rely on human detection. They seldom consider the importance of network event characteristics to the network datavisualization, and cannot detect slow scans, hidden scans etc. In this paper a visual interactive network scans detection system called Scan Newer is designed to represent traffic activities that reside in network flows and their patterns. The Scan Viewer combines the characteristics of network scan with novel visual structures, and utilizes a set of different visual concepts to map the collected datagram to the graphs that emphasize their patterns. Additionally, a new tool named Localport is designed for to capture large-scale ports information. The experiments show that Scan Viewer can not only detect network scans, port scans, distributed port scans, but also can detect the hidden scans etc.
