We present LiveRAC, a visualization system that supports the analysis of large collections of system management time-series data consisting of hundreds of parameters across thousands of network devices. LiveRAC provides high information density using a reorderable matrix of charts, with semantic zooming adapting each chart's visual representation to the available space. LiveRAC allows side-by-side visual comparison of arbitrary groupings of devices and parameters at multiple levels of detail. A staged design and development process culminated in the deployment of LiveRAC in a production environment. We conducted an informal longitudinal evaluation of LiveRAC to better understand which proposed visualization techniques were most useful in the target environment.

We conducted an ethnographic field study examining the ways in which building design teams used visual representations of data to coordinate their work. Here we describe our experience with this field study approach, including both quantitative and qualitative analysis of field study data. Conducting a field study enabled us to effectively examine real work practice of a diverse team of experts, which would have been nearly impossible in a laboratory study. We also found that structured qualitative analysis methods provided deeper insight into our results than our initial quantitative approach. Our experience suggests that field studies and qualitative analysis could have substantial benefit in visualization and could nicely complement existing quantitative laboratory studies. When the sample data of zinc mineral body is lack, it is essential to build one visualization model to compute and analyze its reserve by use of its associated copper sample data. In order to calculate the reserve of zinc mineral, the sample data in standard distance is used to compute its experiment variogram and analyze its corresponding structure. Thus, its visualization model was also established to determine the reverse of mineral body. According to the Cokriging method, the reserve visualization computation of zinc mineral body was implemented with the Open CL graphic function in the *** development environment. For the case with lack of zinc mine sample data, the zinc reverses could be figured out with its associated copper sample data, as described in Ashele zinc mine area. Furthermore, the Cokriging visualization computation procedure was given in this paper, and the profiles of mineral body are edited intelligently by using man-machine conversation. So, the mineral body could be located and presented dynamically. Meanwhile, the grades, reverses, and metal values could also be obtained directly and correctly by dividing the mineral body into different cells.

This study examines the social network of scholars in the field of Communication by using author co-citation data. A matrix containing the number of co-cited documents between pairs of authors is created for social network analysis of scholars who are on the editorial board of Journal of Communication, and the networked map of the scholars is used to visualize the knowledge structure of the field by identifying groups of authors who are more central than others. Social Science Citation Index (SSCI) is used to collect the author co-citation data, and UCInet is employed for social network analysis as well as network visualization.

This paper describes utilization of environmental data to support decision-making in environmental management and protection. This requires a thorough knowledge of related developments in computer science and a good understanding of the environmental management tasks at hand. As computational power increases, and observation systems sample the environment more densely ill space and time, environmental datasets have become increasingly large and more complex. Furthermore, environmental datasets, both observed data and model Outputs, are geographically distributed across the network oil heterogeneous computing platforms. To understand these large, complex, distributed data sets depends upon the development of new information technologies for integrating the data Sets With visualization and analysis technologies. As a support tool for managing, processing analyzing ail visualizing environmental data are Geographic Information Systems.

Visual spatial data mining is an effective way to discover knowledge from huge amounts of spatial data. The systematic study and development of visual spatial data mining techniques will facilitate the promotion and use of spatial data mining as a tool for spatial dataanalysis. This paper introduces a web-based visual spatial co-location patterns' mining prototype system (SCPMiner). In SCPMiner, there not only are data management function and four co-location mining methods, but also co-location mining methods analysis and co-location mining applications.
In recent epidemical researches based on GIS, a great deal of studies focus on the dataanalysis and result deduction using spatial-temporal analysis, scientific visualization, etc. However, there are rare researches ...

The Mail computer Interactive data Access System (McIDAS) project began over 30 years ago at the University of Wisconsin-Madison to analyze and visualize data from the first generation of geostationary weather satellites. McIDAS continues to provide a strong dataanalysis and visualization capability for the current environmental satellites. However, the next generation of operational remote sensing instruments under development for the NPOESS and GOES-R programs require software tools with expanded capability and performance to support innovative techniques for developing algorithms, visualizing data and products, and evaluating results. A project is underway at SSEC to develop the fifth generation of McIDAS, a java-based, open-source system for multispectral and hyperspectral researchers and algorithm developers that will provide powerful new data manipulation and visualization tools to work in this data rich environment. NASA EOS MODIS and AIRS data as well as MSG SEVERI and METOP IASI data are now being used in conjunction with in situ and gridded data to develop new analysis and product validation techniques in the McIDAS-V environment. This new dataanalysis and visualization system will support both researchers and operational users of the advanced measurement systems on NPOESS and GOES R.

This paper provides a set of intelligent simulation techniques of structure state, which mainly combines intelligent technique of information processing, mix programming, scientific visualization technique, visualization interface based on XML technique, soft component technique and engineering database, etc, this method fully integrates advanced computer science and technology with structure analysis and optimization. Then, intelligent visualization is proposed and researched. Especially, two improved gray models (GRBF static prediction model and DRBF dynamic prediction model) that can well visualize small sample data simulation are proposed. Finally, fundamental intelligent simulation framework of structure state is established.

Despite the long history and consistent use of quantitative empirical methods to evaluate information visualization techniques and systems, our understanding of interface use remains incomplete. While there are inherent limitations to the method, such as the choice of task and data, we believe the utility of study results can be enhanced if they were amenable to meta-analysis. Based on our experience in extracting design guidelines from existing quantitative studies, we recommend improvements to both study design and reporting to promote meta-analysis: (1) Use comparable interfaces in terms of visual elements, information content and amount displayed, levels of data organization displayed, and interaction complexity;(2) Capture usage patterns in addition to overall performance measurements to better identify design tradeoffs;(3) Isolate and study interface factors instead of overall interface performance;and (4) Report more study details, either within the publications, or as supplementary materials.
