In X-ray interventional imaging, improved denoising enables lower X-ray dose and better visualization, resulting in increased confidence in the therapeutic act. This article focuses on the denoising of fluoroscopic image sequences in interventional cardiology. The challenge with these images is the need to preserve fine details in terms of size and contrast, representing the tools manipulated by the operator. These tools superimpose over an anatomical background. This context drives us to propose an algorithm based on spatial-temporal filtering conditioned by a feature of interest map. Based on the confidence in the feature detection our algorithm will either filter, preserve or enhance the image content. Our method is fast and compares very favorably with state of the art methods both quantitatively on synthetic data and perceptually on clinical data.

To date, synchronized phasor measurements have been used mainly for power system model validation, postevent analysis, real-time display, and other similar activities. However, synchrophasors have a greater potential than monitoring and visualization. Synchrophasors will increasingly contribute to the reliable and economical operation of power systems as real-time control and protection schemes become broadly used. Synchronous phasor measurements are now available in relays and meters; however, a practical means of processing the data in real time had been lacking. This paper describes a synchronous vector processor and several practical applications, including automated diagnostics, remedial action schemes, direct state measurement, and stability assessment.

We present a prototype mobile application environment for law enforcement users to assist them in daily operations. This system supports the collection of real-time observations and allows users to quickly share their findings with team members. Mobile tools for law enforcement introduce safety and other operational constraints that must be considered in developing appropriate user interfaces. Our environment attempts to address these challenges and provide tools to increase information sharing among officers and, expedite form-filling and evidence collection. Moreover, real-time location tracking and mapping enables mobile users to view the locations of team members and to push data (such as field-collected images, video, or text) to them.

Based on the analysis of the system requirement of the emergency management information system of Qinghai-Tibet railway line (EMIS-QTRL), a layered EMIS-QTRL architecture including 4 vertical layers and 2 supporting layers, which are network layer, data layer, service layer, application layer, security layer and standard layer, was put forward. The new design system can satisfy the requirement of the Qinghai-Tibet railway management department on the emergency response information sharing and decision-supporting, and has the advanced features with the visualization and spatiotemporal information integration implemented on GIS technologies. The key technologies of the implementation of this system, which are spatiotemporal data integration model, information sharing platform based on multi-agent system were described in detail. Finally, the practical system development applied into the emergency rescue control center (ERCC) for Qinghai-Tibet railway line demonstrates the effectiveness of the design and implementation of the EMIS-QTRL.

Getting to know clients and their behavior is essential in the growing process of any company that searches for improvement and business opportunities. One of the ways to discover more about their clientspsila behavior is to analyze the history of their transactions with the company or partners. The amount of transactions is often huge, what demands tools that help explore and analyze data in search for patterns or outliers. The tool used in this paper is called PRISMA and is based on multiple coordinated visualization techniques. Its major goal is to enhance the userpsilas perception about data and what is related to it, identifying problems that might occur during transactions, in order to improve or find business opportunities in them.

Proteomic analysis may be useful to investigate disorders of the central nervous system, in order to explore the protein content of cells and of biological fluids in respect of the onset and evolution of diseases. Today, one of the most used proteomic approach includes the separation and visualization of proteins by means of two-dimensional gel electrophoresis (2DE). However the development of fully automatic strategies in extracting information from gel images is still a challenging task. In this paper we applied a computational strategy to the aim of obtaining a compact representation of the original data. This method was applied to an experimental protocol including two different clinical groups of amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS) and peripheral neuropathy patients : 32 2DE maps generated from cerebrospinal fluid (24 pathologic and 8 control subjects) were processed. Quantitative features were extracted to describe each image and dealt with the dimension reduction technique of local tangent space alignment (LTSA). The discovered low-dimensional structure allows to see the gel of the dataset as separable, according to their clinical conditions, showing the informativeness of the adopted descriptors and providing the bases for classification of this kind of samples.

The software evolution is often a continuous process necessary to avoid a short longevity of software use. The evolution control requires analysis to be processed respectively before and after software change implementation. First, an a priori change impact analysis is required to help decisions takers by estimation of intended impact and its propagation to other software components. Secondly, an a posteriori change analysis is destined to estimate to what extent the goals of implemented changes have been effectively reached. Both invoked analysis of change impact require an exhaustive description of individual software components as well as their various types of interdependency. In our paper, we propose an exhaustive stratified description of software components using formal modeling, aiming at providing better change impact analysis. The proposed description focuses on software elements which may play role in change impact and the propagation of its effects from directly modified component to other components of the whole software.

Changes are the heartbeat of a software system. Software has to change to reflect the adapting requirements of business, processes, and technology; otherwise it becomes progressively less useful. Because of that, software typically grows and becomes more complex inducing more time and effort for evolving it. Software archives provide rich sources of information about systems and their history of changes. From that we can learn and benefit in steering the evolution of a software system both technically and organizationally. In our research, we have investigated change histories from multiple perspectives: change couplings, change types, developer networks, component dependencies, evolution metrics, etc. Combined with effective visualizations, change histories have shown to be extremely useful for guiding software development. But that information can also be used to reflect how a future IDE might better support the developer given that all the data about a software project is accessible. For that we review some of the major achievements in software evolution analysis and present our evolution analysis platform called EVOLIZER to address what we can learn from mining change histories and how to integrate that in future IDEs.

In completion of oil and gas wells, zonal isolation requires proper cement placement with adequate bonding to the casing and formation. To achieve a successful cementing operation, the cement slurry should be properly designed to enable effective displacement of the drilling fluid from the annulus between the casing and wellbore. This is a complex process, involving displacement of viscoplastic fluids in eccentric annuli. The rheology, flow rate, and interfacial mixing of these fluids have direct impact on the displacement efficiency. Reliable computational modeling of the dynamics of the displacement process is beneficial to properly perform pre‐job design and post‐job analysis of the cementing operation. Furthermore, experimental data are also used to validate numerical predictions. This paper presents a flow visualization study using a helical flow device with adjustable annular eccentricity and rotation of the inner cylinder. Displacement experiments were conducted with a variety of non‐Newtonian fluids to simulate the cement slurry—drilling mud displacement process.

ISOMAP is a manifold learning based algorithm for dimensionality reduction, which is successfully applied to datavisualization. However, there exists such limitation in classical ISOMAP that the algorithm is sensitive to noises, especially outliers. So in this paper an extended ISOMAP algorithm is put forward to solve the problem of sensitivity. The proposed algorithm follows the method of classical ISOMAP except that a preprocessing strategy is introduced to remove the noises and outliers. The likelihood of each point to be a noise or an outlier is quantified by carrying out weighted principal component analysis and box statistics method is adopted to distinguish clear points from noisy ones, then ISOMAP can be performed after de-noising. Experiments on noisy s-curve and noisy Swiss-roll data validate its efficiency for improving robustness.
