Along with the expansion of computer-based climate simulations, efficient visualization and analysis of massive climate data are becoming more important than ever. In this paper, we try to explore the factors behide climate changes by combining window query and time-varying data mining techniques. With constant query time and acceptable storage cost, the algorithms presented support various queries on 3d time-varying datasets, such as average, min, and max value. A new time-varying dataanalysis algorithm is given, which is especially suitable for analyzing big data. All these algorithms have been implemented on and integrated into a visual analysis system, with tiled-LCD ultra-resolution display. Experimental results on several datasets from practical applications are presented.

In this paper, a statistical procedure to construct a control chart for monitoring air quality (PM10) using functional data is proposed. A set of daily indices that represent the daily PM10 curves were obtained using Functional Principal Component analysis (FPCA). By means of an iterative charting procedure, a reference data set that represented a stable PM10 process was obtained. The data were then used as a reference for monitoring future data. The application of the procedure was conducted using seven-year (2004–2010) period of recorded data from the Klang air quality monitoring station located in the Klang Valley region of Peninsular Malaysia. The study showed that the control chart provided a useful visualization tool for monitoring air quality and was capable in detecting abnormality in the process system. As in the case of Klang station, the results showed that with reference to 2004–2008, the air quality (PM10) in 2010 was better than that in 2009.

Statistical graphics and techniques for datavisualization are critical elements of modern dataanalysis. One of the most recognized and convenient ways to provide statistical information on geographically referenced data is to apply micromaps. In this article, we describe how spatial patterns of two cancer incidence rates, age-standardized rate and crude rate, and the health indicators can be examined visually and simultaneously using linked micromap plots. To explore the potential for utilization of linked micromap plots, we analyze and visualize the health data including cancer statistics and community health indicators for the period of 2010 of South Korea. As a result of dataanalysis, the age-standardized rate has negative correlativity with smoking and drinking, and the crude rate is more influenced by socioeconomic factors than health behaviors.

Almost all of the spatial data is spatially dependent. In this paper, we focus on studying the spatial autocorrelation of the population distribution based on the data which is from the statistical yearbook of Henan province. Specifically, the spatial clustering patterns of the population both in 2000 and 2010 years are first investigated throughout the whole province by using the global Moran I statistic. Secondly, the local Moran I statistic is employed to assess and evaluate the spatial autocorrelation degree between the focal location and its surrounding ones. Finally, related results are visualized by applying the visualization technique of the Surfer software.

In the online teaching activities, there are various teaching data accumulated as time series and many methods to analyze the quality of teaching. But there are no such methods which can emphasize the status perception of the teaching-learning and the interaction between the teachers and students. In this paper, we adopt multivariate analysis method to help teachers improve their teaching and to promote the students' mastery of knowledge. We add the analysis of student learning status to reflect the students' learning ability clearly. Through statistical analysis, clustering algorithm and visualization, users can distinguish the students of different abilities and use different educational strategies. Our system named as A VOJ, including multivariate visual analysis and data mining methods, is proved usefully both in teaching and learning instruction.

This paper describes the upstream data standards that Saudi Aramco has recently implemented for Drilling and is in progress to implement them for other areas such as Production and Reservoir Characterization. These standards enable us to make wider use of our monitoring and collaboration centers through a common approach. It also allows us to leverage the evolving WITSML, PRODML and RESQML standards more effectively in our upstream operations. Saudi Aramco relies on many service organizations to deliver the generated data which requires common and standard data classification when exporting data from source A then importing to destination B. Applying a common approach to information access on a global basis has enabled us to streamline our operations and make wider use of emerging analysis, monitoring and collaboration technologies. Real-time technologies have been utilized to capture, monitor and analyze operational data from well sites so that critical decisions can be made in real-time to reduce and eliminate operational and safety problems, thus reducing non-productive time. That includes high-tech rigs, smart wells, monitoring & collaboration tools and real-time datavisualization systems. Our aim has been to implement standard upstream information architecture. Our full implementation of WITSML was the vehicle which allowed this to happen in Drilling & Workover operations. We still believe that over the next years with the advancements of technologies there will be more challenges to support open connectivity between different vendors and services supporting the increasing upstream functions.
