Initiatives of making government data open are continuously gaining interest recently. While this presents immense benefits for increasing transparency, the problem is that the data are frequently offered in heterogeneous formats, missing clear semantics that clarify what the data describe. The data are displayed in ways, which are not always clearly understandable to a broad range of user communities that need to make informed decisions. We address these problems and propose an overall approach, in which raw statistical data independently gathered from the different government institutions are formally and semantically represented, based on an ontology that we present in this paper. We further introduce the approach deployed in publishing these data in alignment with Linked data principles, as well as present the methods implemented to query single or combined dataset and visualize the results in understandable ways. The introduced approach enables data integration, leading to vast opportunities for information exchange, analysis on combined datasets, simplicity to create mashups, and exploration of innovative ways to use these data creatively.

This paper presents a study on security and privacy concerns in E-learning. The study has been conducted along with our research effort that focuses on tracking students' activities on Computer-Mediated Communication tools (e.g. discussion forum, blog, wiki, etc.). It aims to express our attention on technical and ethical aspects of using tracking approach in the learning process. While the study covers an analysis of some existing research data of security in E-learning and user privacy protection provisions, it helps us gain a broader perspective of utilizing the tracking approach in our research. The major contribution of this paper is that it raises an awareness of the relevant issues, which are often neglected in the research efforts that implicate user tracking and personal data usage for instructional purposes.

In large organizations and small firms in transportation, there is a growing need to use and analyze spatial data. Transportation system analysis and planning as well as mobility studies frequently use Geographic Information Systems (GIS). In this paper we propose the development of a web services platform dedicated to transportation and logistics. Taking advantage of the web services development framework PyOpenCF we integrate in the same environment services oriented to geolocalization, logistical optimization, etc. We develop a PyOpenCF client whose graphic interface allows processes with spatial data to be launched and provides a visualization of the results.

With the advent of advances in Geospatial Information Systems (GIS);there is a need to determine the areas of research and new tools available for GIS systems. GIS consists of the collection, integration, storage, exploitation, and visualization of geographic and contextual data and spatial information. Future GIS needs, techniques, models, and standards should be shared openly among developers for future instantiation of products. The summary of selected areas include (1) support for large-data formats including meta-data transparency, (2) adherence to open standards, (3) generation of extensible architectures, and (4) development of a consistent set of metrics for analysis. The future of GIS products will include non-spatial as well as spatial data which requires information fusion, management functions from machine-processed data to user-defined actionable information, and use-case challenge problems for comparison.

The visualization system of disassembly sequence planning verifies the feasibility and correctness of disassembly process providing a research platform for technologists and maintainer. This paper focuses on the algorithm of disassembly sequence planning and its visual simulation, and applies Ant colony algorithm (ACA) to optimize the disassembly sequence, in which interference matrix and stability matrix are established to express geometric constrains and stability constrains. By defining the state-transition rule and updating local and global pheromone, the algorithm is guided to find the optimal solution faster. The system interface is implemented based on Qt and the parts coding and sub-assemblies are defined on the basis of tree structures. The visual simulation of disassembling process is realized based on OSG. Relevant data in the system is stored and accessed by XML documents. Finally, the traction device of CRH3 EMU bogie is taken as an example to validate the efficiency of the algorithm and the practicability of the system. The research achieves desired results in the algorithm convergence, and the developed system is accessed easily and suitable for large-scale assemblies.

A graph regularized non-negative matrix factorization (NMF) model is proposed for image pattern discovery. Each image is represented by its histogram of visual words (i.e. bag-of-words) and the image contents are discovered by the NMF model. The graph regularization preserves the spatial closeness of visual code words in the obtained patterns, thus improving the bag-of-words representation against its main shortcoming: the loss of spatial information. Experiments on a subset of the Caltech256 database show the efficacy of the proposed model.

Accurate registration of 3-D point clouds is a common problem in computer vision. This paper presents a new two-stage algorithm for point clouds registration. A novel local invariant feature which is a k-dimensional vector is proposed and used in our coarse registration stage. Two new structural constraints combined with the Iterative Closest Point (ICP) algorithm are adopted in our fine registration stage. The accuracy and effectiveness of our algorithm is visually and quantitatively demonstrated by the comparative experiments on synthetic and real 3-D data.
