Our initial survey of visualization tools for environmental science applications iden-tified sophisticated tools such as The visualization and analysis Platform for Ocean, Atmosphere, and Solar Researchers (VAPOR) [http://***], and Man computer Interactive data Access System (McIDAS)andThe Integrated data Viewer (IDV) [http://***/software]. A second survey of ours (32,279 figures in 1,298 articles published between July and December 2011 in 9 environmental science (ES) journals) suggests a gap between extant visualization tools and what scientists actually use; the vast majority of published ES visualizations are statistical graphs, presenting evidence to colleagues in respective subdisciplines. Based on informal, qualitative interviews with collaborators, and communication with scientists at conferences such as AGU and ESA, we hypothesize that visualizations of natural phenomena that differ significantly from what we found in the journals would positively impact scientists’ ability to tune models, intuit testable hypotheses, and communicate results. If using more sophisticated visualizations is potentially so desirable, why don’t environmental scientists use the available tools?

We present a complex, open source tool for detailed machine translation error analysis providing the user with automatic error detection and classification, several monolingual alignment algorithms as well as with training and test corpus browsing. The tool is the result of a merge of automatic error detection and classification of Hjerson (Popovic, 2011) and Addicter (Zeman et al., 2011) into the pipeline and web visualization of Addicter. It classifies errors into categories similar to those of Vilar et al. (2006), such as: morphological, reordering, missing words, extra words and lexical errors. The graphical user interface shows alignments in both training corpus and test data;the different classes of errors are colored. Also, the summary of errors can be displayed to provide an overall view of the MT system's weaknesses. The tool was developed in Linux, but it was tested on Windows too.

Scientific visualization as an interdisciplinary research field offers a wide range of methods and techniques to efficiently analyze and visualize the spatial and temporal data and information. In this article a discipline of scientific visualization is needed to explore information and construct knowledge from geodata: geovisualization. This research field offers tools and techniques to discover relationships, clusters and trends in geodata. Adapting methods from computer science and geographic knowledge discovery spatial and spatiotemporal data-patterns and information can be visualized in different types of charts, plots and combined with elements of cartography. This article presents selected methods and techniques for two different scientific tasks: (1) To detect spatial attribute relationships of a landform linked to map. Specifically: spatial relationships of size, shape and location of thermokarst lakes, formed through permafrost degradation. We used star charts to visualize multivariable data and to make visible how landforms attributes are relate to each other. (2) A concept is developed to visually explore the specific distribution of emergency services and service clusters due to space and time. It depends on the example of emergency services of the City of Cologne. This geodata set contains more than 500,000 emergency services beginning 01/2007 and ending in 08/2011. The concept's core is a new hierarchical data representation based on tree diagrams linked with a cartographic visualization of the results received from explorative statistics (e. g., kernel density estimation).

A systematic approach is introduced to infer surface structure of visible object surfaces using grid coding in this paper. The visualized object, which has surface of a terrain-like shape, is assumed to derive from data field of gird points defined by orthogonal division and data acquisition. Parametric surface is used to spatially represent the data for analysis. Central difference technology is presented to tessellate the curved surface and generate view-dependent multi-resolution models, which has excellent performance in real-time applications. Besides, an algorithm for data pre-processing is presented. The approach presented here also adapts to data acquired in realistic scene, which can be a virtual reality application. Comparing to previous methods, the method presented in this paper provides good flexibility in various applications. It works well in real-time graphic application while has good visual quality.

With increases in the scale of parallelism the dimensionality and complexity of parallel performance measurements has placed greater challenges on analysis tools. Performance visualization can assist in understanding performance properties and relationships. However, the creation of new visualizations in practice is not supported by existing parallel profiling tools. Users must work with presentation types provided by a tool and have limited means to change its design. Here we present an approach for creating new performance visualizations within an existing parallel profile analysis tool. The approach separates visual layout design from the underlying performance data model, making custom visualizations such as performance over system topologies straightforward to implement and adjust for various use cases.

In the software development lifecycle, code static analysis takes an important part in building secure software. To help discover the potential security issues in source code, large numbers of static analysis tools are developed. But the results generated by them display in the form of pure text, so it is time-consuming for developers to analyze these text messages, and it is difficult for developers to concentrate on the most interesting defects in huge data. In this paper, we have developed a visualization system oriented to Java source code, which presents the results in graphics from a developer's point of view, to help developers to analysis code defects. A novel layout is proposed to visualize software source code in a hierarchy way, which shows the physical structure of the software. A visual overview and powerful interaction is provided in this system which allows the developer to focus on the most pressing defects within huge volumes of source code.

A control and acquisition system for the visualization of the images captured with a High Dynamic Range (HDR) CMOS Image Sensor is developed. The image sensor is inserted in a PCB system, which performs low level control, in communication with a PC software, which performs high level control and images visualization. In order to make it user-friendly, we have opted to use object-oriented method to implement the computer software. The system has an attractive interface, and it is easy to operate. It also includes additional functionalities, such as the increment of the frame rate, enhancement of human perception of details contained in the depicted scene and the possibility to display statistical data for illustrating the behavior of the chip.
