The new generation of massively parallel mainframes enabled computational physics to make a quantum leap in complexity and size of numerical simulations, especially in the domain of astrophysics. The COAST project at CEA/IRFU at Saclay, started in 2005, involves astrophysicists and software engineers developing simulation codes in magneto-hydrodynamics and generic tools for data structuration and visualization. A dedicated software for visualizing the massive amounts of data produced by these simulation codes has been developed, the SDvision code, deployed in the framework of IDL Object Graphics. This code is suitable for interactive and immersive navigation for the analysis of 3D results and also for videos and stereoscopic movies productions for people at large. In this paper, we present the capabilities of the code SDvision and some applications in the domain of astrophysics simulations but also in the domain of fusion plasmas studies. In particular, two challenging simulations have been performed in the framework of the 'Grands Defis GENCI/CINES' on recent supercomputer Jade in CINES in 2010 and we present the visualization studies for such huge computation results.

Nowadays, embedded systems are widely used. It is extremely difficult to analyze safety issues in embedded systems, to relate the safety analysis results to the actual parts, and to identify these parts in the system. Further, it is very challenging to compare the system's safety development and the different safety metrics to find their most critical combinations. Due to these fundamental problems, a large amount of time and effort is spent for analyzing the data and for searching for important information. Until now, there is a lack of visualization metaphors supporting the efficient analysis of safety issues in embedded systems. Therefore we present "Enhanced CakES", a system that combines and links the existing knowledge of the safety analysis and the engineering domain and improves the communication between engineers of these domains. The engineers can directly explore the most safety critical parts, retaining an overview of all critical aspects in the actual model. A formal empirical evaluation was performed and showed the increase of accuracy from ESSaRel 28.7% to 83% for CakES. © 2011 Polish Info Processing Soc.

In the first place, we discuss the chaoticity and the Hurst expornent of the alpha rhythms with MEG data under some consciousness states at some positions on the brain. In the second place we present a new preliminary result for the Hurst exponents over extended frequency of rhythms with EEG data under some conditions with/without pleasant visible/auditory stimuli at a frontal position on the brain and discuss on them.

Online Analytical Processing (OLAP) was widely used to visualize complex data for efficient, interactive and meaningful analysis. Its power comes in visualizing huge operational data for interactive analysis. data mining techniques (DM) are strong at detecting pattern sand mining knowledge from historical data. OLAP and DM are believed to be able to complement each other to analyze large data sets in decision support systems. Some recent researches have shown the benefits of combining OLAP with data Mining. In this paper, we review the OLAM and OLAP and data mining, and identify their limitations. We propose a conceptual model that overcomes the existing limitations, and provide a way for combining OLAP with OLAM. Furthermore, the proposed model offers directions to improving cube's construction time and visualization over the data cube. © 2011 IEEE.

Modern high performance computers have speeds measured in teraflops and petabytes and handle data set sizes measured in terabytes and petabytes. Although these machines offer enormous potential for solving very large-scale realistic computational problems, their effectiveness will hinge upon the ability of human experts to interact with their simulation results and extract useful information. One of the greatest scientific challenges of the 21st century is to effectively understand and make use of the vast amount of information being produced. Visual data analysis will be among our most important tools in helping to understand such large-scale information. Our research at the Scientific Computing and Imaging (SCI) Institute at the University of Utah has focused on innovative techniques for 3D visual data analysis. In this talk, I will present state-of-the-art visualization techniques and software, applied to problems in computational science, engineering, and medicine and discuss current challenges and future opportunities. © author 2011.

In a scenario where WWW has become more important every day, to have a clear and well organized web site has become one of the vital goals of enterprises and organizations on the Web. On enterprises' side goals are make more profits by reducing costs or increasing incomes. In the case of content-based web sites their goals is to spread its contents among web users. An automatic ontology learning method is developed for the search engine result analysis, which trains ontology with world knowledge of hundreds of different subjects in a multilevel taxonomy. This ontology is then mined to find important classification rules, and these rules are used to perform an extensive analysis of the content of the largest general-purpose Internet search engines in use today. Instead of representing collections as a set of terms, which commonly occurs in collection selection, they are represented as a set of subjects, leading to a more robust representation of information and a decrease of synonymy. Parallelizing the web search results incorporated with Bookshelf data Structure owe to the simplistic applicability of the aforementioned strategy, and the use of simple data structure. The method was also used to analyze the content of the most popular search engines in use today, including Google and Yahoo. In conclusion, this research paper focus on the ontology based semantic web search results visualization using BSDSC(Book Shelf data Structure Code) based on BookShelf data Structure. Finally, the search results are presented in visual mode, which allows a user to navigate between extracted schemas. © 2011 IEEE.

An efficient term mining method to build a general term network is presented for entity relation visualization and exploration. Terms from each document in the corpus are first identified. They are subjected to an analysis for their association weights, which are accumulated over all the documents for each term pair. The resulting term association matrix is used to build a general term network. A set of terms having similar attributes can then be given to extract the desired sub-network from the general term network for visualization. This analysis scenario based on the collective terms of the similar type or from the same source enables evidence-based relation exploration. Some practical instances of crime investigations were demonstrated. Our application examples show that term relations, be it causality, coupling, or others, can be effectively revealed by our method and verified by the underlying corpus. This work contributes by presenting an efficient and effective term-relationship mining method and extending the applicability of term networks to a broader range of informatic tasks. © 2011 AICIT.

Preliminary data analysis can be used for studying data properties and variable dependence. data mining methods such as the Self-Organizing Map (SOM) can be effectively and easily applied even on large data sets. In this case study, process measurement data from normal operation of a circulating fluidized bed (CFB) boiler was tentatively analyzed by using correlation calculation for quantitative results and SOM for visualization. Results were compared and found to support each other. SOM efficiently visualizes the numerical results obtained by correlation analysis. The used methods enable the recognition and evaluation of dependence among variables in a computationally inexpensive way.

Traditionally, the visual analysis of hierarchies, respectively, trees, is conducted by focusing on one given hierarchy. However, in many research areas multiple, differing hierarchies need to be analyzed simultaneously in a comparative way - in particular to highlight differences between them, which sometimes can be subtle. A prominent example is the analysis of so-called phylogenetic trees in biology, reflecting hierarchical evolutionary relationships among a set of organisms. Typically, the analysis considers multiple phylogenetic trees, either to account for statistical significance or for differences in derivation of such evolutionary hierarchies;for example, based on different input data, such as the 16S ribosomal RNA and protein sequences of highly conserved enzymes. The simultaneous analysis of a collection of such trees leads to more insight into the evolutionary process. We introduce a novel visual analytics approach for the comparison of multiple hierarchies focusing on both global and local structures. A new tree comparison score has been elaborated for the identification of interesting patterns. We developed a set of linked hierarchy views showing the results of automatic tree comparison on various levels of details. This combined approach offers detailed assessment of local and global tree similarities. The approach was developed in close cooperation with experts from the evolutionary biology domain. We apply it to a phylogenetic data set on bacterial ancestry, demonstrating its application benefit. © 2011 IEEE.
