This paper describes the design of web-based software for visually exploring organizational social networks. The software's target user group consists of business professionals and organizational design consultants who wish to apply network analysis to a practical problem but lack the sophistication required to use advanced software packages. Particular emphasis is placed on using multiple layouts, aggregation and filtering to reduce cognitive complexity and improve usability. Implementation details will also be briefly discussed.

To make progress in understanding knot theory, we will need to interact with the projected representations of mathematical knots which are of course continuous in 3D but significantly interrupted in the projective images. One way to achieve such a goal would be to design an interactive system that allows us to sketch 2D knot diagrams by taking advantage of a collision-sensing controller and explore their underlying smooth structures through a continuous motion. Recent advances of interaction techniques have been made that allow progress to be made in this direction. Pseudo-haptics that simulates haptic effects using pure visual feedback can be used to develop such an interactive system. This paper outlines one such pseudo-haptic knot diagram interface. Our interface derives from the familiar pencil-and-paper process of drawing 2D knot diagrams and provides haptic-like sensations to facilitate the creation and exploration of knot diagrams. A centerpiece of the interaction model simulates a "physically" reactive mouse cursor, which is exploited to resolve the apparent conflict between the continuous structure of the actual smooth knot and the visual discontinuities in the knot diagram representation. Another value in exploiting pseudo-haptics is that an acceleration (or deceleration) of the mouse cursor (or surface locator) can be used to indicate the slope of the curve (or surface) of whom the projective image is being explored. By exploiting these additional visual cues, we proceed to a full-featured extension to a pseudo-haptic 4D visualization system that simulates the continuous navigation on 4D objects and allows us to sense the bumps and holes in the fourth dimension. Preliminary tests of the software show that main features of the interface overcome some expected perceptual limitations in our interaction with 2D knot diagrams of 3D knots and 3D projective images of 4D mathematical objects.

The paper concerns results of the research into dynamic properties and detection of changes in the determinism of undamaged and cracked aluminium plates in the function of excitation frequency. At the stage of identification experiment, the considered plates were excited to vibrations by the application of harmonic signals of frequencies corresponding to the frequencies of the first, third and sixth mode shapes respectively. analysis of the measured displacement time histories was carried out with the use of the Recurrence Plots and the Recurrence Quantification analysis methods. The Recurrence Plots method, which is an advanced technique of nonlinear dataanalysis, was used for detection of qualitative changes in the system dynamic behaviour by visualization of recurrence of system states in a phase space. The smallest sufficient embedding dimension m was estimated with the use of the false nearest neighbours algorithm while for the purposes of time delay tau determining the method of mutual information function was used. In order to facilitate interpretation of information contained in the Recurrence Plots, the Recurrence Quantification analysis was carried out. For each considered frequency of excitation significant differences in the values of the RQA measures estimated for undamaged and cracked plate were observed. It was proven that the Recurrence Plots and Recurrence Quantification analysis methods can be used for detection of changes in the dynamic behaviour (determinism) of mechanical systems related to changes in the frequency of excitation or crack propagation. The research was motivated by the results of the spectral and restoring force analysis of measured displacement time histories that, in case of plate with the crack introduced, revealed appearance of various nonlinear and probably chaotic phenomena.

In many application fields, data analysts have to deal with datasets that contain many expressions per item. The effective analysis of such multivariate datasets is dependent on the user's ability to understand both the intrinsic dimensionality of the dataset as well as the distribution of the dependent values with respect to the dimensions. In this paper, we propose a visualization model that enables the joint interactive visual analysis of multivariate datasets with respect to their dimensions as well as with respect to the actual data values. We describe a dual setting of visualization and interaction in items space and in dimensions space. The visualization of items is linked to the visualization of dimensions with brushing and focus+context visualization. With this approach, the user is able to jointly study the structure of the dimensions space as well as the distribution of data items with respect to the dimensions. Even though the proposed visualization model is general, we demonstrate its application in the context of a DNA microarray dataanalysis.

This paper presents 4dVizMed, a framework for interactive analysis and autostereoscopic visualization of 3d time-varying objects in volumetric image sequences. It combines a deformable surface model which automatically tracks volumetric features, real-time multi-view stereo volume rendering, and some interactive tools for manipulation and quantization. Our method is based on a topological feature tracking process, using a flow-based paradigm and a deformable surface model. It tracks through time the evolution of the components of an isosurface and their interaction with other components. We focus on the difficulties of visualizing 4d volume data, and we report the results of preliminary experiments designed to evaluate the utility of autostereoscopic displays for this purpose.
