Three-dimensional terrain visualization is an important issue of the virtual battlefield. The rendering fidelity is very low because of the impact of the terrain property information in a specific application environment. The quad-tree of multi-resolution was designed to organize the terrain data. The effect of terrain feature was imported to reconstruct node evaluation function, which can make the quad-tree visualization suitable for more application situations. It can ensure the lowest distortion of the terrain feature in an application situation. The method to eliminate cracks based on index template boundary algorithm was presented. It realizes the seamless transition during the rendering process for a large amount of data mesh. The experimental results show this algorithm improves the roaming efficiency and the visualization effects for the large-scale terrain rendering.

On the basis of a large corpus of wine reviews, this paper proposes a range of interactive visualization techniques that are useful for linguistic exploration and analysis of lexical, grammatical and discursive patterns in text. Our visualization tool allows linguists and others to make comparisons of visual, olfactory, gustatory and textual properties of different wines from different parts of the worlds, from different grape varieties, or from different vintages. It also supports the immediate creation of visual profiles for descriptions of sensory perceptions for exploratory purposes as well as for purposes of confirmatory investigations of linguistic patterns in text and discourse and their correlations to metadata variables.

This paper presents an online analysis tool called ***, which is built over the DBLP dataset of publications from the field of computer science. The developed tool is focused on the analysis and visualization of the co-authorship relationship based on the intensity and topic of joint publications. The visualization of co-authorship networks allows to describe the author and his/her current surroundings while still incorporating the historical aspect. The analysis is based on using the forgetting function to hold the information relevant to the selected date. After this analysis, we are capable of computing several measures, which can describe different aspects of user behaviour from the point of view of scientific social network.

The goal of sensor-bridging is to map sensory information to a modality that humans are able to process effectively. As our vision has the highest bandwidth to our brain from all our senses, datavisualization has an important role in presenting such information. We review research in datavisualization and human visual perception, show several examples for images that are easy to process, and provide some recommendations for effective visual sensor-bridging. At the end, we pose some open research questions for the area of cognitive infocommunications and human-computer interaction.

Incorporating asynchronous online discussions as an integral part of introducing knowledge building (KB) in the formal school curriculum poses significant challenges to teachers. Making sense of the sheer volume of students' postings and identifying appropriate facilitation strategies based on these postings is a daunting, if not impossible task even for experienced teachers. This interactive event show cases the work of two research teams that have been developing tools to address teachers' concerns and researchers' interests on students' participation and idea progression in KB discourses. The approach taken by the team comprising researchers from the Centre for Information Technology in Education (CITE), University of Hong Kong and the Center for Knowledge Engineering (CKE), Beijing Normal University is to develop a web-based discourse analysis tool that can provide various forms of participation statistics as well as automatic coding based on linguistic features. The efforts of the Quebec-based team focuses on the use of lexical analysis, using preset lists of concepts or specialized dictionaries, and visualization of latent semantic analysis results.

In this paper, we present a cloud framework to provide cloud clustering, workflow scheduling and management, fault tolerance and distributed data storage, data analytics and visualisation services. Using a practical case study, we show that in the process of analyzing multiscale climate data, typical problems plaguing data analysts are faced. These include large datasets and limited computational resources, data complexity and limited knowledge, and varying data structures/formats and the need to integrate different tools. The implementation of our framework to climate studies was a success. This can be seen in its ability to perform spatio-temporal dataanalysis and visualization of a large multi-dimensional climate dataset with reduced processing time. The framework demonstrates great flexibility and simplicity for end users intending to perform dataanalysis by aiding the integration of data and tools and enabling interactive visualization on-the-fly. This is coupled with effective utilization of computational resources and data storage systems.

Complex science and large volumes of disparate data required for risk analysis of coastal hazards can be very difficult to communicate effectively to government and business decision makers. Including potential future scenarios as a result of climate change complicates matters further. An immersive visualization environment integrating data from high resolution imagery, sensed and measured data, model output, and more, that can scale from the desktop to large dome theater venues demonstrate promise for greatly enhancing the impact and reach of these scientific endeavors.

In this paper, a new set of data signatures is derived to obtain better Vector Fusion 2D visualizations of a time series and periodic nD traffic data set as compared with previous work. The latter had used the entire Power Spectrum components for visualization purposes to produce 2D representations of each subset of the data. With the feasibility of obtaining a smaller representation of the data set in obtaining better cluster models compared to using the original n-dimensions, we now explore this feasibility for visualization purposes. We propose an algorithm that determines, in quantitative terms, how good the selected set of signatures represents the nD data set in 2 dimensions. We use the Vector Fusion visualization algorithm in transforming each signature from its n dimensions into 2 dimensions. An improved set of qualitative criterion is drawn to measure the goodness of the 2D data signature-based visual representation of the original nD data set. Finally, we provide empirical testing and discuss the results.

While monitoring and analysis of bio-signals are essential in today's medical diagnostics, it is gaining even more importance with modern computer systems allowing the use of complex real-time algorithms and analysis of huge amounts of data. To ease development of such algorithms, a tool is needed which allows the mobile long-term recording of signals at reasonably high frequencies and at the same time provides a framework for a straightforward implementation of all kinds of real-time monitoring, analysis and visualization algorithms. The Measure tool developed at femu, RWTH Aachen University, consisting of a mobile data logging device and an easily extendable PC software, addresses this problem. The system has been evaluated in a case study analyzing gastrointestinal motility.
