Maintaining situation awareness in the maritime domain is a challenging mandate. Task analysis activities were conducted to identify where visual analytics science and technology could improve maritime domain awareness and reduce information overload. Three promising opportunities were identified: the visualization of normal maritime behaviour, anomaly detection, and the collaborative analysis of a vessel of interest. In this paper, we describe the result of our user studies along with potential visual analytics solutions and features considered for a maritime analytics prototype.

This study has been performed in order to present a scientific visualization tool for visualizing the movements of their Inner articulators for Tamil speech sounds. Block matching algorithm is functional for tracking the movements of the inner articulators. Three step search algorithm has been used to achieve the motion estimation with high accuracy and to handle large motion vectors. Experiments are performed based on MRI data obtained from the speaker and three dimensional visualization of the vocal track for the Tamil speech sounds (during the speech production). The result indicates clear movements of parameters such as lips, tongue, jaw and facial surfaces. Also the movements of inner articulators are visualized and dataanalysis is also presented. Thus all the data which are collected together could be exposed for progress the teaching and learning of foreign languages (in our case, the Tamil language), as well as for speech synthesis based on a physiologically relevant articulatory model.

Detecting and analyzing the complex problems introduced by today's cybercriminal are challenging undertakings. System pirates are organized and exploit available machines worldwide to conduct their attacks. The attack patterns are complex, multi-variate, and, in the case of botnets, can generate a significant amount of traffic that is difficult to interpret. In order to understand these complex event structures and ascertain their possible correlations in multiple dimensions, a visualization method called parallel coordinates can be used. This paper introduces the basic theory behind parallel coordinates, and demonstrates the visualization of real-world examples of attacks observed through a month of Snort logs on a production server. The parallel coordinates-based visualization is accomplished using an open source visual intrusion detection system called Picviz, which can aid in the analysis of potentially malicious network traffic.

Fuel gas (hydrogen gas) and oxidant gas (air) are supplied to a polymer electrolyte fuel cell (PEFC). Condensation may occur in the cathode side, since the air might be super-saturated by the fuel cell reactions. If condensed water exists in a gas diffusion layer (GDL) or the gas channels, it may affect the fuel cell performances because it blocks the oxygen from reaching the cathode reaction site. Thus, water management in the PEFC is important. In order to clarify water effects on performances of a PEFC, visualization and quantitative measurements of water distributions in a PEFC were carried out by means of neutron radiography. Two-dimensional water distributions were obtained, and water ejection was confirmed. It was found that the water easily accumulated in the GDL under the rib rather than under the channel at beginning of the operation. Furthermore, a network analysis of gas-velocity distribution is applied for the experimental results. It analyzes the gas-velocity distributions depending on the flow resistance, which is the pressure drop. Applying the measured data of water thickness, gas-velocity distributions were obtained in the channel and the GDL. From the calculation, air supply in the GDL dramatically decreased with increasing of water accumulation. (C) 2010 Elsevier B.V. All rights reserved.

The study of complex activities such as scientific production and software development often require modeling connections among heterogeneous entities including people, institutions and artifacts. Despite numerous advances in algorithms and visualization techniques for understanding such social networks, the process of constructing network models and performing exploratory analysis remains difficult and time-consuming. In this paper we present Orion, a system for interactive modeling, transformation and visualization of network data. Orion's interface enables the rapid manipulation of large graphs-including the specification of complex linking relationships-using simple drag-and-drop operations with desired node types. Orion maps these user interactions to statements in a declarative workflow language that incorporates both relational operators (e.g., selection, aggregation and joins) and network analytics (e.g., centrality measures). We demonstrate how these features enable analysts to flexibly construct and compare networks in domains such as online health communities, academic collaboration and distributed software development.

Obtaining performance data of parallel program and analyzing these data are the two basic steps for analysis of parallel program behavior and optimizing program design. With the rapid development of high-performance computers, unceasing expansion of the scale of parallel program, it will produce large scale performance data for each measurement. The problems that how to deal with and demonstrate these data to developers and how to assist the developers to find problems are more difficulty. Towards the profile performance data, this paper provides a visualization method based on clustering of function characteristics, which combines the function grouping with clustering of k-value optimization to process large scale performance data, so as to provide performance analysis support for developers.

One of the major design goals for the biological visualization network tool is flexibility. VisANT is a flexible visualization tool which can visualize and analyze many types of interactions and associations between biological components. VisANT enables parsers and filters, providing the flexible interfaces to facilitate the integration of heterogeneous data sources and third-party's analysis. In our work, we use VisANT and visml which is an exchangeable and editable XML file that have visual markup and annotation of network layouts to manipulate the nodes which represent biological components, the edges which represent their associations include pathway associations and the graph layout freely. The discrete characteristic of data points leads to the visualization of three dimensional meshless method numerical results with difficulty. This paper proposes using three dimensional Delaunay tessellation, which constructs the background tetrahedron mesh from three dimensional data points, to visualize numerical results of meshless method with cloud contour by coloring the 4 triangular facets of each tetrahedron. Numerical examples which are performed by MATLAB programming demonstrate that the proposed method is able to generate high quality cloud contour efficiently.

With the rapid advancement in remote sensing technology, the application of remote sensing satellite data(hereinafter referred to as satellite data) becomes more and more widely;meanwhile with the increase of satellites, the source of satellite data get more and more extend. In consequence, the management of satellite data becomes more and more difficult. This paper describes in detail how to use Postgre SQL, Geoserver and World Wind to build a simple management system of satellite data. The system implements the three-dimensional visualization presentation of satellite data so that users can get the distribution directly, and also has a simple statistical analysis of satellite data so that users can acquire relative information for ordering the data and mine the deeper information contained in the data.
