In view of the shortcomings of bore and section data-based modeling,, a new kind of data structure is proposed in this paper to describe three-dimensional geological body structure based on borehole data. Based on OpenGL library, the 3D geological modeling and visualization of complex geologic body were achieved in Visual C ++ 6.0. Experimental data test shows that the data-structure not only can improve modeling efficiency and update data automatically, but also can prove the functions of three-dimensional spatial intersection, query, and analysis. It is useful for the design of 3D geological modeling and visualization software and the promotion of the informatization construction in mine.

Software maintenance is a complex process that requires the understanding and comprehension of software project details. It involves the understanding of the evolution of the software project, hundreds of software components and the relationships among software items in the form of inheritance, interface implementation, coupling and cohesion. Consequently, the aim of evolutionary visual software analytics is to support software project managers and developers during software maintenance. It takes into account the mining of evolutionary data, the subsequent analysis of the results produced by the mining process for producing evolution facts, the use of visualizations supported by interaction techniques and the active participation of users. Hence, this paper proposes an evolutionary visual software analytics tool for the exploration and comparison of project structural, interface implementation and class hierarchy data, and the correlation of structural data with metrics, as well as socio-technical relationships. Its main contribution is a tool that automatically retrieves evolutionary software facts and represent them using a scalable visualization design.

The objective of this paper is to show how approaches for user-centered information visualization design and development are being applied in the context of healthcare where users are not familiar with information visualization techniques. We base our design methods on user-centered frameworks in which 'prototyping' plays an important role in the process. We modify existing approaches to involve prototyping at an early stage of the process as the problem domain is assessed. We believe this to be essential, as it increases users' awareness of what information visualization techniques can offer them and that it enables users to participate more effectively in later stages of the design and development process. This also acts as a stimulus for engagement. The problem domain analysis stage of a pilot study using this approach is presented, in which techniques are being collaboratively developed with domain users from a healthcare institution. Our results suggest that this approach has engaged users, who are subsequently able to apply generic information visualization concepts to their domains and as a result are better equipped to take part in the subsequent collaborative design and development process.

The task of automated object tracking and performance assessment in low frame rate, persistent, wide spatial coverage motion imagery is an emerging research domain. The collection of hundreds to tens of thousands of dense trajectories produced by such automatic algorithms along with the subset of manually verified tracks across several coordinate systems require new tools for effective human computer interfaces and exploratory trajectory visualization. We describe an interactive visualization system that supports very large gig pixel per frame video, facilitates rapid, intuitive monitoring and analysis of tracking algorithm execution, provides visual methods for the inter comparison of very long manual tracks with multi segmented automatic tracker outputs, and a flexible KOLAM Tracking Simulator (KOLAM-TS) middleware that generates visualizationdata by automating the object tracker performance testing and benchmarking process.

Texture is an important element for visualization of 3D city models and often takes a big proportion of the total data volume. In order to simplify 3D city model textures for dynamic visualization in different scales, a multiple representation data structure, TextureTree is proposed to store building textures in different LoDs. First, the texture image is iteratively segmented by horizontal or vertical dividing zone (edge or background from edge detection) until each sections are basically in the same color. Then textures in all sections are represented by their main color and the TextureTree is created based on the color difference between the adjacent sections. With the TextureTree, the simplified texture in different LoDs can be dynamically generated. The experiment results show that the data volume of building textures can be reduced by TextureTree while the required visual similarity is preserved.

We introduce WordBridge, a novel graph-based visualization technique for showing relationships between entities in text corpora. The technique is a node-link visualization where both nodes and links are tag clouds. Using these tag clouds, WordBridge can reveal relationships by representing not only entities and their connections, but also the nature of their relationship using representative keywords for nodes and edges. In this paper, we apply the technique to an interactive web-based visual analytics environment - Apropos - where a user can explore a text corpus using WordBridge. We validate the technique using several case studies based on document collections such as intelligence reports, co-authorship networks, and works of fiction.

Co-word analysis is a bibliometric technique used to create atlas of science and related issues. Based on the co-occurrence frequency of pairs of words or phrases, co-word analysis is used to discover linkages among subjects in a research field and thus to trace the development of science. The aim of this study is to visualization the subject structure of the field of international management science during the period of 2002-2006. Co-word analysis was employed to reveal patterns and trends in the international management science field by measuring the association strengths of terms representative of relevant publications. data were collected from selected 52 kinds of international journal papers collected from Social Science Citation Index (SSCI). In addition to the keywords added by SSCI databases. Observe the co-word try to distinguish its dynamic development and evolution, and with the help of discipline knowledge to explain these information, mine the knowledge mode of its research field. The results show that the international management science field has some established research themes and it also changes rapidly to embrace new themes.

The quality of a graph drawing algorithm is often measured by its edge crossings, angular resolution, aspect ratio, and node labeling. Algorithms for drawing trees in general are segregated from algorithms for drawing graphs. In this paper we present a graph visualization system that uses a novel interconnection between a tree drawing algorithm and graph drawing techniques. First, the graph is transformed into a tree and nodes that have multiple parent connections within the graph are duplicated within the tree. While some of the connection information is lost during this transformation, the multiple connections can be regained by interactively displaying the details based on the degree of interest. We use an edgeless rings-based visualization which allows edge crossings and angular resolution issues to be eliminated and has a desirable aspect ratio of 1. Finally, a circular labeling method is used that provides user-friendly labels that do not overlap and clearly show node affiliation.
