The browsing of large image data bases has become a standard problem not only on the web but also in private photo collections. Most browsing techniques build on high dimensional feature spaces that are reduced to one or two dimensions when presented to the user. As this approach does not scale well with the size of the data base we propose to use an interface based on the concept of parallel coordinates. Around the currently selected image, we collect images for each feature dimension, which vary only in this feature coordinate, and present them to the user in a row by row fashion. In this way the user can understand the individual feature dimensions independently. Besides directed image search the interface is well suited to explore classes of images and furthermore to evaluate how intuitive individual feature dimensions are for the user.

It is common to classify data in hierarchies, they provide a comprehensible way of understanding big amounts of data. From budgets to organizational charts or even the stock market, trees are everywhere and people find them easy to use. However when analysts need to compare two versions of the same tree structure, or two related taxonomies, the task is not so easy. Much work has been done on this topic, but almost all of it has been restricted to either compare the trees by topology, or by the node attribute values. With this project we are proposing TreeVersity, a framework for comparing tree structures, both by structural changes and by differences in the node attributes. This paper is based on our previous work on comparing traffic agencies using LifeFlow [1, 2] and on a first prototype of TreeVersity.

Sensitivity analysis is a powerful method for discovering the significant factors that contribute to targets and understanding the interaction between variables in multivariate datasets. A number of sensitivity analysis methods fall into the class of local analysis, in which the sensitivity is defined as the partial derivatives of a target variable with respect to a group of independent variables. Incorporating sensitivity analysis in visual analytic tools is essential for multivariate phenomena analysis. However, most current multivariate visualization techniques do not allow users to explore local patterns individually for understanding the sensitivity from a pointwise view. In this paper, we present a novel pointwise local pattern exploration system for visual sensitivity analysis. Using this system, analysts are able to explore local patterns and the sensitivity at individual data points, which reveals the relationships between a focal point and its neighbors. During exploration, users are able to interactively change the derivative coefficients to perform sensitivity analysis based on different requirements as well as their domain knowledge. Each local pattern is assigned an outlier factor, so that users can quickly identify anomalous local patterns that do not conform with the global pattern. Users can also compare the local pattern with the global pattern both visually and statistically. Finally, the local pattern is integrated into the original attribute space using color mapping and jittering, which reveals the distribution of the partial derivatives. Case studies with real datasets are used to investigate the effectiveness of the visualizations and interactions.

Research on 3D GIS simulation system of pit mining surface subsidence is not merely simple extension of 2D geographic information system, but from spatial model analysis to spatial database structure until visualization of 3D data. The research and application of this system have important and positive significance on evaluation of mining surface subsidence damage, control of mine geological disaster, and ecological environment restoration in mining area.

We present Topic View, an application for visually comparing and exploring multiple models of text corpora. Topic View uses multiple linked views to visually analyze both the conceptual content and the document relationships in models generated using different algorithms. To illustrate Topic View, we apply it to models created using two standard approaches: Latent Semantic analysis (LSA) and Latent Dirichlet Allocation (LDA). Conceptual content is compared through the combination of (i) a bipartite graph matching LSA concepts with LDA topics based on the cosine similarities of model factors and (ii) a table containing the terms for each LSA concept and LDA topic listed in decreasing order of importance. Document relationships are examined through the combination of (i) side-by-side document similarity graphs, (ii) a table listing the weights for each document's contribution to each concept/topic, and (iii) a full text reader for documents selected in either of the graphs or the table. We demonstrate the utility of Topic View's visual approach to model assessment by comparing LSA and LDA models of two example corpora.

With the development of orbit transfer vehicle (OTV), attitude adjustment technology has become the focus of the research. For the necessary of interaction and extendibility which exit in the visual simulation of OTV attitude adjustment. According to the adjustment algorithm which based on OTV special attitude, technical assistance was provided by constructing the framework and function model of federation, and setting the mechanism of disposal and exchange of data which could meet attitude estimate and time synchronization in distributed simulation. The adjustment algorithm of attitude has been verified with an instance.

Manga, a kind of graphic novels expressed by sequential line drawings, is an important document image publication which is invoking more and more attentions for their copyright protection. Because of simple constructions and abstract expression styles, similar copies are always applied in plagiarisms of mangas. In addition, the enormous volume of copyrighted manga publications issues a challenge to the task of detecting suspicious images. Considering only some regions of interests (ROIs) require copyright protection, we propose a bag-of-features method using visual words based on ROIs for similar manga retrieval. In the experiments, we applied real manga publications as data and proved the effectiveness of the proposed method.

In this paper, we present the platform for distributed data integration and mining which in developed within ADMIRE project in EU 7tb Framework Programme. The platform provides a specialized DISPEL language for describing workflow of data integration and mining. Users can create workflows using visual programming environment in Eclipse. Distributed execution of the workflow is done by gateway developed in ADMIRE project.

It is very important to choose reasonable test data for testing and verifying the correctness of a program, and this paper discusses and analyzes the methods of how to design the program test data in detail. It deems that the method of equivalent type division can be used for choosing the test data of a program when there is a clear-cut input data area, and the method of boundary value analysis can be used when the extreme value is known. The methods of logical covering test which includes command covering, judgment covering, condition covering, judgment and condition covering, and condition combination covering can also be used while the internal structure of the program is understood. The test data chosen by comprehensive utilization of these methods will achieve the best results of program test.

Electronic Health Record (EHR) systems offer a structured approach for the collection, storage, retrieval and analysis of patient health data. However, this very emphasis on structure has led to systems that do not fully capture the rich insights present in the narratives that clinicians create and use to document patient 'stories'. We propose a solution of visually representing patient health data centered around the medical problem faced by the patient and augmented by interactivity. We focus on how patients' medical data could be represented such that it facilitates the discovery of insights and understanding of the patient's case that narratives bring to clinicians.
