A new image coding method based on image region is proposed in this paper. According to the features of the image gray surface, an image is partitioned into many convex polygons which appoximate the original image as close as possible. The experimental results show that good quality of the reconstructed image can still be obtained when the data compression ratio is more than 20:1 and SNR is more than 30dB.

This paper describes a generic framework for the realtime interpretation of videosurveillance scenes. The tool we have built according to this framework performs the understanding process up to the online recognition of ongoing scenario, with respect to a library of scenario models dedicated to a particular application. We propose a prefetching scheme for imageprocessing which fully exploits regular memory references, and hides or reduces latencies from memory to cache in shared memory multiprocessors. Since the imageprocessingapplications usually require quite huge memory references, it is obvious that the memory latencies dominate overall execution time. Though software-controlled prefetching can be also an alternative to alleviate such latency impact, it usually suffers from not a little overheads due to prefetch instructions themselves which would offset the benefit obtained from prefetching. This paper proposes a new software-controlled prefetching scheme that prefetches multiple blocks using a prefetch instruction. It is designed in consideration of very regular memory references which is intrinsic to most imageprocessingapplications. Our scheme reduces almost all memory stall time for loads and significantly the overall execution time. applications to simulate reduce the execution time by 10-21% compared to the originals without prefetching.

With the novel idea of describing an image in characteristic subspace (DCS), a new approach of a more efficient image compression for some types of images, such as medical sciagraph, is proposed. Firstly, we obtain the coefficient image of the original image by its description in the DCS; then we decompose the coefficient image with a forward wavelet transform (WT) with multi-resolution to remove the redundant information; and finally encode the decomposed image by vector quantization (VQ). In comparison with WT-VQ or DCT-VQ, the new method (DCS-WT-VQ) has been proved by experiments to have a much higher compression ratio and SNR, requiring a lower computational time in the coding and decoding process.

Multispectral image fusion is a kind of process of synthesis and processing for multispectral image data. On the basis of optoelectronic imaging technique, the imaging process & feature of low light level(LLL) TV system are analyzed & the principle and processing construction of multispectral LLL TV image fusion are discussed. The proper combination of low light level camera and optical filters is used to implement multispectral image fusion experiment at night for outdoor static scene by the aid of computer. The results of experiment indicate that multispectral low light level image fusion has improved the capability for recognizing targets.

In this study, a Fuzzy Kohonen Clustering Networks (FKCN) algorithm is proposed for image segmentation. The large image sizes are in general required for various types of imaging applications. For large amounts of data, computation of Fuzzy Kohonen Clustering Networks (FKCN) algorithm for iterative operation will take a long time. Therefore, it has been attempted to make the FKCN algorithm realistically useful for image segmentation. In this work, a proposed FKCN algorithm will keep the advantage of using this plan. But instead of using image space, a gray level function of image was used for all imaging data. A new algorithm was developed for applications of various images. Good results were taken in a short time for image segmentation.

This thesis is concerned with new approaches to processing and compression of nonstationary signals using wavelets and multifractality, with applications to speech and images. wavelets allow for simultaneous observations of time and frequency transients, while multifractality allows fractal dimension characterizations of signal singularities. A scheme is developed to separate stationary and nonstationary parts of speech signals using linear predictive coding (LPC) filters and LPC excitations, respectively, and to design (i) wavelet compact representation of the excitation to achieve 15.33 dB signal-to-noise ratio (SNR) at a 5.5 kbit per second (kbps) rate, and (ii) fractal characterization of 22 consonant excitations resulting in separable features. wavelet representation is also suitable for image compression, where more than 90% truncation of wavelet coefficients still results in good perceptual quality. An optimum scalar quantization of such coefficients results in a peak SNR (PSNR) of 28.06 dB at a rate of 0.15 bit per pixel (bpp), outperforming the classical joint photographic expert group (JPEG) objectively and subjectively. wavelet coefficients are also suitable for fast Rice entropy coders. In addition, wavelets and fractality lead to separation of signal from noise, and are used to obtain a 2:1 compression ratio of otherwise incompressible noise contaminated images. wavelets and multifractality not only reveal that nonstationary parts are sufficient to represent natural images, with wavelet maxima detecting both the regular and singular transients, but also can be used to reconstruct such images. This has led to an edge preserving coding for aerial ortho images, achieving a quality of 27.89 dB PSNR, thus outperforming the edge quality of JPEG at 30 dB. Finally, a hierarchical neural network has been designed to extract nonstationary features and can classify 22 severe storm events accurately.

The purpose of this work is to improve the orientational filter for texture image analysis. ii consists of four bandpass Quadrature Polar Separable (QPS) filters with the same bandwidth but different orintation. The frequency response of the designed QPS filter consists of the independent pair set. The first is the same as the radial weighting function used in, the Knutsson's filter except inserting the shift parameter to the central frequency. The second. file orientational weighting function, is characterised by a quadrature function pair which are generated by combining an exponential attenuation function. If is easy to control the filter property in frequency domain and is more effective to estimate texture image. In order to estimate the orientations and the frequency components of local texture in frequency domain, a series of experiments have been carried out. The results show that it can be used as an. efficient tool in texture processing.
