Alzheimer's disease (AD) is an irreversible and progressive brain disease that gradually destroys memory and thinking skills to an extent that it starts affecting the daily life. It has become the most common cause of dementia among older people. The work presented in this paper evaluates the utility of image processing on the Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) scans to estimate the possibility of an early detection of AD. The total brain atrophy and specifically the hippocampal atrophy are considered strong diagnostic tests for AD. T1 weighted MRIs have been used for the purpose of image processing to evaluate atrophy. The paper demonstrates the applications of several image processing techniques such as K-means clustering, wavelet transform, watershed algorithm and also a customized algorithm tailored for the specific case. It has been implemented on the open source platforms, OpenCV and Qt, which facilitates the implementation and utility of the developed product in the hospitals without requiring any proprietary software. The results obtained from the project could aid the analysis to detect AD along with correlation with the psychiatric results and could thus assist the doctors in detecting AD at an early stage. This could progressively help in understanding and treating AD.

Coronary Atherosclerosis is recognized as the predominant cause of Chronic Heart Failure. The standard diagnostic modality for Coronary Atherosclerosis involves echocardiography (ECO); however, the accessibility of such diagnostic equipment remains constrained within several healthcare facilities. Consequently, there is a demand for a more straightforward diagnostic approach, specifically through the utilization of Electrocardiography (ECG). This investigation endeavors to introduce an automated methodology for the detection of Coronary Atherosclerosis, enhancing the precision of ECG interpretation via digital imaging predicated on cardiac signal detection graphs obtained through this modality. The algorithm employed to delineate the ECG signal dynamics for the diagnostic identification of Coronary Atherosclerosis is the Continuous wavelet Transform (CWT). The application of CWT follows the execution of multiple pre-processing phases on the ECG signal graph, including image cropping to isolate the graph within the ECG and segmentation to eliminate background interference, thereby concentrating on the graph for subsequent analysis. This preprocessing facilitates the interpretative process through the CWT algorithm. The analysis proceeds with a classification phase employing a Convolutional Neural Network (CNN), which differentiates between normal patient conditions and those presenting with Coronary Atherosclerosis and normal ECG. The experimental outcomes derived from the application of the proposed algorithm demonstrate a significant enhancement in the accuracy of ECG interpretation, achieving a diagnostic accuracy rate of 96% for the detection of Coronary Atherosclerosis.

INTRODUCTION: Over the past several years analysis of image has moved from larger system to pervasive portable devices. For example, in pervasive biomedical systems like PACS-Picture achieving and Communication system, computing is the main element. image processing application for biomedical diagnosis needs efficient and fast algorithms and architecture for their functionality. Future pervasive systems designed for biomedical application should provide computational efficiency and portability. The discrete wavelet transform (DWT) designed in on-chip been used in several applications like data, audio signal processing and machine learning. OBJECTIVES: The conventional convolution based scheme is easy to implement but occupies more memory, power and delay. The conventional lifting based architecture has multiplier blocks which increase the critical delay. Designing the wavelet transform without multiplier is a effective task especially for the 2-D image analysis. Without multiplier Daubechies wavelet implementation in forward and inverse transforms may find efficient. The objective of the work is on obtaining low power and less delay architecture. METHODS: The proposed lifting scheme for two dimensional architecture reduces critical path through multiplier less and provides low power, area and high *** proposed multiplier is delay efficient. RESULTS: The architecture is Multiplier less in the predict and update stage and the implementation carried out in FPGA by the use of Quartus ii 9.1 and it is found that there is reduction in consumption of power at approximately 56%. There is reduction in delay due to multiplier less architecture. CONCLUSION: multiplier less architecture provides less delay and low power. The power observed is in milliwatts and suitable for high speed application due to low critical path delay. © 2024 A. R. Deepa et al., licensed to EAI.

There has been a rapid increase in audio-visual information in digital form with the ever-increasing popularity of the Internet. The Moving Pictures Expert Group has recently presented a video compression and content manipulation standard, called MPEG-4 [1]. This was developed in response to the growing need for a coding method that can facilitate access to visual objects in natural and synthetic moving pictures in a wide variety of applications. In this paper, we propose a method for indexing the spatial content of Still Texture in MPEG-4 Video. There has been a number of approaches proposed recently [1],[3],[5],[6], which address content based indexing using features such as, color, shape and/or texture. We note that the still texture information is encoded using wavelet Transform in MPEG-4. Since still texture can have an arbitrary shape, we propose to employ a combination of shape, color and texture features. The shape features are derived from the alpha plane and represented using Cubic B-spline approximation. The color and texture features are extracted directly from the wavelet compressed domain. An important attribute of the proposed approach is also the introduction of the novel concept of “containment” of spatial features for content based indexing.

Embodiment of DSP tasks requires an optimal blend of reg- ularly structured array processing and scalar oriented decisions making. The ZR34325 represents the first full IEEE floating- point integrated array processor on silicon, supplemented with the pertinent scalar and control flow capabilities. In order to meet the stringent processing requirements, found today in modern signal and image processing applications, the ZR34325 directly executes embedded DSP and array processing primitives on multidiniensional arrays. Furthermore, an integrated development environment which includes system software simulator, vectorized and parametric DSP, arithmetic and matrix library, C based assembler/linker and hardware development tools, facilitates top-down complete application development . To achieve performance bounds higher than plausible by a single device (45 MFLOPs peak), one must resort to a Multi- Processor Multi-Tasking (MPMT) schemes. The ZR34325 en- ables very efficient MPMT schemes for tasks where: (i) Execution- time is data independent (e.g. FFT); or (ii) Execution-time is data dependent (e.g. SVD algorithm).

Transform coding is a essential tool for picture coding applications, and coding schemes that can achieve high energy compaction are essential. In terms of energy compaction, Karhunen-Loeve transform (KLT) is known to be optimal. The energy compaction provided by KLT depends on the statistical property of the input signal and the dimensionality of KLT. However, the quantitative effect of KLT dimensionality on energy compaction has not been clarified. This paper establishes a mathematical model of the relationship among the dimensionality of KLT and the energy compaction of the transform coefficients, using mathematical tools in quantum information theory.

In this modern world Digital watermarking is of prime importance. This has increased the demand for copyright protection. Digital watermarking is a solution to the problem of copyright protection and authentication of multimedia data while working in a networked environment. In this paper a non-blind watermarking has been proposed that embed a randomly generated binary numbers as watermark. Human Visual System (HVS) has been used to embed the watermark below the detection threshold (JND). High quality of robustness and imperceptibility are achieved through Just Noticeable Difference (JND) base selection of the detail coefficients. The experimental results show that the proposed technique is more resistant against all types of common signal processing operations and geometric attacks.

Remote sensing data provides much essential and critical information for monitoring many applications such as change detection, image fusion and land cover classification. Remotely sensed images are degraded due to the atmospheric effects. The atmospheric correction is one of the important pre processing steps to extract full spectral information from the remotely sensed images. In this paper, transform domain approaches are presented for the removal of atmospheric influences. Soft thresholding technique is adopted in wavelet transform method and gaussian high pass filter is used in homomorphic filtering. The results are tested on Landsat image consisting of 7 multispectral bands and their performance is evaluated using visual and statistical measures. The comparative analysis is done based on statistical parameters such as mean square error (MSE), peak signal to noise ratio (PSNR). Our result shows that wavelet transform is better for the removal of atmospheric effects than homomorphic filtering.

The SPIHT (set partitioning in hierarchical trees) algorithm has attracted great attention in recent years as a technique for image coding. Not only does it give good objective and subjective performance, it is also simple and efficient. In this paper we propose an enhanced image lossless image compression that is based on SPIHT. The most important modification in this algorithm is the addition of a simple modification to the set of type A with a new test on the threshold. Our experiments show that this improvement increases the performance of lossless image coding for all standard test images

In remote sensing applications, the increasing availability of space borne sensors gives a motivation for different image fusion algorithms. Remote sensing image fusion aims at integrating the information conveyed by data acquired which cover different portions of the electromagnetic spectrum at different spatial, temporal and spectral resolutions;so that we can get multi-temporal, multi-resolution and multi-frequency image data for purposes of feature extraction, modeling and classification. The composite or fused image is more useful for human perception as well as for automatic computer analysis task such as feature extraction, segmentation and object recognition. In India, Indian Space Research Organization has recently launched RISAT-1 having microwave imaging sensor and we have used microwave SAR data in our research work for image fusion technique analysis. We have analyzed the Intensity-Hue-Saturation (IHS) transformation, principal component analysis (PCA) and wavelet transform (WT) based fusion techniques considering visual and statistical parameters.
