A novel audio feature extraction and identification system using the discrete wavelet transform (DWT) and the secret sharing scheme is proposed in this paper. The proposed scheme improves the robustness and reliability, while at the. same time reducing the granularity, the minimal length of audio, needed for identification in an audio fingerprinting system without performance degradation. The scheme employs binary share images rather than the conventional hash values. To identify a suspect audio signal, the scheme first extracts the features of the audio, which are then decoded with the share images in the database. Finally, the decoded image is compared to an invariant logo for identification. The experimental results prove the scheme is reliable and robust to several common audio processing operations.

This paper is devoted to denoising technique for video noise removal and deals with advanced WT (wavelet Transform) based method of noise suppression for security purposes. Many sources of unwanted distortion exist in the real surveillance system especially when the sensing is done at extremely low light level conditions. Our goal was to optimize the WT based algorithm to be applicable for the noise suppression in security videos with high computational efficiency. Preprocessing is applied to the output of the sensing system to make the video data more suitable for further denoising. Then a WT based statistical denoising method is applied. The method uses BLSE (Bayesian Least Square Error Estimator) of WT coefficients while utilizing generalized Laplacian PDF modeling and optimized moment method for parameters estimation. Several tests have been done to verify high noise suppression performance, computational efficiency and low distortion of important features. Experimental results show that the described method performs well for wide range of light conditions and respective signal-to-noise ratios.

Theoretical aspects of a technique for target detection and texture segmentation in synthetic aperture radar (SAR) imagery using a wavelet frame are presented. Texture measures consist of multiscale local estimates of the following: 1) normalized second moment of the backscattered intensity and 2) variance A the wavelet-frame coefficients. This work is an extension of a method proposed in the image-processing literature. Novel issues, which are considered in the passage to radar imagery, are the influence of speckle on texture measures afforded by the wavelet frame and their dependence on polarization states (polarimetric texture). Regarding speckle, estimators that decouple the influence A speckle over texture are introduced and characterized by their expected value and variance. The response of the wavelet frame to discontinuities, which is an important issue in target detection)problems, is addressed in terms of signal -to-speckle-noise ratio. The notion of polarimetric texture is revisited, providing a theoretical model that explains the dependences of texture measures m the polarization states. For one-point statistics, such model calls for a mixture of diverse polarimetric scattering mechanisms,within the texture estimator support. For two-point statistics, the difference in spatial correlation properties among the polarimetric channels is called into play. To analyze these effects in polarimetric SAR data, a novel tool is introduced that is called the wavelet Polarimetric Signature. The tool encapsulates, in graphical form, the dependence on scale and polarization state of the texture measure afforded by the wavelet frame. The theory exposed here underpins a method that has been proven successful and computationally attractive in a selected number of SAR thematic applications. A also sets the stage for the exploitation of novel target detection and textural segmentation capabilities based on polarimetric diversity.

in this paper, a human eye localization algorithm in images and video is presented for faces with frontal pose and upright orientation. A given face region is filtered by a high-pass filter of a wavelet transform. In this way, edges of the region are highlighted, and a caricature-like representation is obtained. After analyzing horizontal projections and profiles of edge regions in the high-pass filtered image, the candidate points for each eye are detected. All the candidate points are then classified using a support vector machine based classifier. Locations of each eye are estimated according to the most probable ones among the candidate points. It is experimentally observed that our eye localization method provides promising results for both image and video processing applications.

This paper provides a detailed rate-distortion performance comparison between JPEG2000, Microsoft HD Photo, and H.264/AVC High Profile 4:4:4 1-frame coding for high-resolution still images and high-definition (HD) 1080p video sequences. This work is an extension to our previous comparative study published in previous SPIE conferences [1, 2]. Here we further optimize all three codecs for compression performance. Coding simulations are performed on a set of large-format color images captured from mainstream digital cameras and 1080p HD video sequences commonly used for H.264/AVC standardization work. Overall, our experimental results show that all three codecs offer very similar coding performances at the high-quality, high-resolution setting. Differences tend to be data-dependent: JPEG2000 with the wavelet technology tends to be the best performer with smooth spatial data;H.264/AVC High-Profile with advanced spatial prediction modes tends to cope best with more complex visual content;Microsoft HD Photo tends to be the most consistent across the board. For the still-image data sets, JPEG2000 offers the best R-D performance gains (around 0.2 to 1 dB in peak signal-to-noise ratio) over H.264/AVC High-Profile intra coding and Microsoft HD Photo. For the 1080p video data set, all three codecs offer very similar coding performance. As in [1, 2], neither do we consider scalability nor complexity in this study (JPEG2000 is operating in non-scalable, but optimal performance mode).

The denoising of a natural image corrupted by Gaussian noise is a long established problem in signal or image processing. Even though much work has been done in the field of wavelet thresholding, most of it was focused on statistical modeling of wavelet coefficients and the optimal choice of thresholds. This paper describes a new method for suppression of noise in image by fusing the wavelet denoising technique with optimized thresholding function, improving the denoised results significantly. Simulated noise images are used to evaluate the denoising performance of proposed algorithm along with another wavelet-based denoising algorithm. Experimental result shows that the proposed denoising method outperforms standard wavelet denoising techniques in terms of the PSNR and the preservation of edge information. We have compared this with various denoising methods like Wiener filter, Visu shrink, Oracle shrink and Bayes shrink.

The use of wavelets in the image processing domain is still in its infancy, and largely associated with image compression. With the advent of the dual-tree hypercomplex wavelet transform (D-HWT) and its improved shift invariance and directional selectivity, applications in other areas of image processing are more conceivable. This paper discusses the problems and solutions in developing the DHWT and its inverse. It also offers a practical implementation of the algorithms involved. The aim of this work is to apply the DHWT in machine vision. Tentative work on a possible new way of feature extraction is presented. The paper shows that 2-D hypercomplex basis wavelets can be used to generate steerable filters which allow rotation as well as translation.
