This paper presents a spread-spectrum watermarking algorithm for embedding text watermark in to digital images in discrete wavelet transform (DWT) domain. The algorithm is applied for embedding text file represented in binary arrays using ASCII code into host digital radiological image for potential telemedicine applications. In order to enhance the robustness of text watermarks like patient identity code, BCH (Bose, Ray-Chaudhuri, Hocquenghem) error correcting code (ECC) is applied to the ASCII representation of the text watermark before embedding. Performance of the algorithm is analysed by varying the gain factor, subband decomposition levels, and length of watermark. Robustness of the scheme is tested against various attacks like compression, filtering, noise, sharpening, scaling and histogram equalization. Simulation results show that the proposed method achieves imperceptible watermarking for string watermarks. It is also observed that the use of BCH code improves the performance by reducing bit error rate (BER) performance.

A perceptual image coder for the compression of monochrome images is presented here, in which the coding structure is coupled with a vision model to produce coded images with an improved visual quality at low bit-rates. The coder is an improvement on the current image compression standard, JPEG2000. The proposed coding structure incorporates the human vision model in all stages of compression, and gives very good results compared to the existing wavelet based JPEG scheme. Though the mathematical model used are not new, the simple structure of it which can be easily incorporated into the coding structure of the JPEG2000, incorporates the visual processing stages in a very systematic manner in the same way as the visual neurons process the signal. The results presented in this paper reveal that the proposed structure gives very good perceptual quality compared to the existing scheme especially as we go for lower bit rates. One of the major advantages of the proposed scheme is that it can be easily extended to a structure in which the rate control optimization can be incorporated, as in the JPEG2000.

In the modern age, the transmission of digital images is one of the major processes of communication system. Meanwhile, images are often corrupted by the noise. In many image processing applications the reconstruction of high quality image is an essential fact. To achieve this, we proposed a wavelet based hybrid image denoising. In which, after wavelet decomposition of a noisy image both the approximation and the detail coefficients are incorporated into modification. Approximation coefficients are processed by the Cloud Model (CM) and estimated by the fuzzy mean without omitting the contribution of an individual. The detail parts undergo sub band based adaptive modified firm thresholding. Finally, the image is treated with an Adaptive Wiener filter, to further improve its visual quality. Evaluation indicates that our proposed algorithm outperforms over wavelet based Weighted High Frequency Kernel (WHFC) and median methods in terms of Peak signal to Noise Ratio (PSNR).

Discrete wavelet transform (DWT) is an efficient tool for multi-resolution decomposition of signal and image processing applications. During the compression of image using 2D-DWT two filters are used to evaluate a DWT, a highpass and a lowpass filter, with the filter coefficients derived from the wavelet basis function in each dimension. Among all DWTs, the Haar discrete wavelet transform (Haar DWT) is the simplest and orthogonal one. However, a traditional 2D DWT is applied by sequentially performing two 1D operations one along the rows and the other along the columns of a transformed row image. In other words, the column operation cannot be performed until the row operation is completed. There is decrease in performance due to the memory read and write operations involving intermediate result between row and column operations. Due to this reason, we propose the sequential data input to hierarchical algorithm for Haar DWT. With this technique, we can implement a 2D Haar DWT by data rearrangements, achieving the low memory required to implement being of O (N). The most important characteristic of this algorithm is that the computational process can be extended to image of any size taking the advantage of the block processing of image and data input using diagonal scan algorithm

This paper presents a pattern recognition approach which is developed for biometric identification using individual's knuckle prints. In this approach, initially palm images are segmented with active appearance models and regions of interest (knuckle prints) are extracted with using analytical processing. Afterwards, the patterns of knuckle prints are extracted by combining these regions. First, discrete wavelet transform are applied to transform to the spectral domain for feature extraction, then by using nonlinear Kernel Fisher Discriminant method most discriminative features are obtained. Weighted Euclidean distance based nearest neighbor method is utilized for classification. Finally, the proposed method is tested on 1614 hand images which belong 132 different persons. Obtained results (%97 accuracy rate for 132 persons) demonstrate proposed method's success, they are promising for the future.

wavelet analysis has been successfully applied in many applications such as image processing, communication and signal processing. Moreover, the wavelet theory covers more significant application. It is because the wavelet theory can be applied to the continuous and the discrete-time cases. In particular, the wavelet transform focuses on the analysis of non-stationary signals. When compared with classical Short-Time Fourier Transform and Fourier Transform analysis, both processing methods are unable to process the non-stationary signal. While wavelet analysis provides an alternative solution for this problem. Ultrasound signal is categorized as a non-stationary signal. Many techniques have been used for processing the ultrasound signal. The use of ultrasound in medical and civil area keeps increasing due to low cost, and accurate techniques. Therefore, this study focuses on the analysis of the multiple echoes of ultrasound in the cortical bone using wavelet decomposition processing method. Then, the appeared echo at both surfaces of bone was determined using a peak detection algorithm. Bone thickness was calculated based on measured flight time in the bone. The experimental results were compared with manual measurement using vernier caliper for validation process. The results show that the wavelet decomposition processing method provided small errors of cortical bone thickness measurement, which was 0.152 mm (4.104%), while standard deviation was 0.102 mm. This measurement values showed that the accuracy of bone thickness was almost 96.000% for this method. Furthermore, the experimental results were correlated with caliper values so that correlation coefficient was 0.9797.

In this paper, we describe the use of phase-invariant complex wavelet filters, coupled to a training process involving a small, high-quality training dataset, to build an image segmentation system capable of performing in very low signal-to-noise, and under conditions of strong object-background contrast change. The three main components of our approach are: i) a patch-based feature description of local phase-invariant orientation fields;ii) a priori ground-truth data;iii) a machine learning method, such as Multilayer Perceptron (MLP) or kernel-based Support Vector Machine (SVM), to build an accurate classifier that is customised to the segmentation problem. A key feature of the approach is that it may be easily retrained and is, therefore, more adaptable to different imaging modalities. A representation of phase-invariant local image orientation using geometric algebra is first introduced;this is important to the patch-based approach. The quality of our trained systems is then assessed using Receiver Operating Characteristic (ROC) curves in two different biomedical applications: the human retinal vessel-bed in colour fun-dus images from the publicly available DRIVE database, and the rabbit endothelial cell boundaries of thoracic aorta microscopy images.

This paper describes how JPEG2000 still image compression codec will be enabled in the 3G wireless terminals thanks to the efficiency of TMS320C55xx DSP core embedded in the TI OMAP™. OMAP™ H/W architecture will be described, with an emphasis on how still image compression and decompression applications will benefit from this advanced architecture. The paper will also depict the advantages provided by OMAP™s DSP subsystem architecture for the Discrete wavelet Transform (DWT), which is the most computation hungry JPEG2000 kernel. A final chapter will compare bit stream download time and decoding scenarios for compressed QVGA color images.
