The paper is based on channel noise estimation and its reduction in compressed images using singular value decomposition. image compression reduces irrelevant and redundant image data so that image is stored in lesser space and can be transmitted efficiently. Reducing the storage area increases the capacity of storage medium as well as the channel bandwidth. However, when the compressed image is transmitted, noise is added to it via transmission channel and the image is distorted. Therefore, accurate noise estimation and its reduction in a wide variety of vision and imageprocessingapplications is an important issue. An efficient algorithm has been developed which is based on the study of singular values of noise corrupted images and estimates the noise level in images that is further used for setting up a threshold for wavelet denoising. This dependency of threshold value on the esimation of noise level results in a better quality of denoised image. This algorithm has been applied to JPEG and JPEG2000 compressed images and corresponding results have been analyzed in terms of parameters like MSE and PSNR. The algorithm is more reliable, shows robust behavior over a visual content and noise conditions and it is more efficient as compared to the other relevant existing methods.

Discrete wavelet transform (DWT), has diverse applications in signal and imageprocessing fields. In this paper, we have implemented the lifting "Le Gall 5/3" algorithm on a low cost NVIDIA's GPU (Graphics processing unit) with MatLab to achieve speedup in computation. The efficiency of our GPU based implementation is measured and compared with CPU based algorithms. Our investigational results with GPU show performance enhancement over a factor of 1.52 compared with CPU for an image of size 3072×3072.

The basic objective of this paper is to analyze the concept of wavelet based algorithms for image compression using different parameter. In this paper, a new approach for image edge detection using wavelet based ant colony optimization (ACO) is proposed. The proposed approach applies discrete wavelet transform (DWT) on the image. ACO is applied to the generated four subbands (Approximation, horizontal, vertical, and diagonal) separately for edge detection. After obtaining edges from the 4 subbands, inverse DWT is applied to fuse the results into one image with same size as the original one. The proposed approach outperforms the conventional ACO approach.

In order to improve the image analysis ability in some practical applications, an image fusion algorithm was proposed. This algorithm combined information from multiple images of the same scene in pixel level. Firstly, a group of lifting morphological wavelets for image fusion was discussed. Then using one of the schemes, multiple images were shift in different direction and decomposed respectively. Next, the transform coefficients were processed according to certain fusion criterion and some fusion results could be obtained through inverse transform and inverse displacement. Finally, such fused images were filtered to be one image we need. Computer simulation shows this algorithm in morphological wavelet domain can fuse grayscale images or color images effectively. Compared with the conventional wavelet transform, it gets a more complete and clearer scene.

Hiding data into images can be referred to as a constrained optimization problem. Hence, we proposed a reversible genetic watermarking scheme based on the wavelet packet transform in this paper. Genetic algorithm is used to select an appropriate basis from permissible bases of wavelet packet transform to increase the robustness of the embedded data, and the binary string to be hidden is embedded into middle and high frequency coefficients of the wavelet packet transform. The scheme to embed each binary value a modified version of "difference expansion". Experimental results show that the proposed method can resist some imageprocessing methods, such as sharping operation, while keeping cover image quality and the amount of hidden data acceptable in real world applications.

In this paper, we propose a hybrid feature point detector based on a fusion of a multi-scale edge map and a wavelet based interest point representation. The feature points thus obtained are used for efficient image indexing and retrieval. Proposed method preserves an optimum number of significant feature points. Our method is compared against other existing interest point detectors. Efficacy of the proposed method is evaluated via a image retrieval system against the standard test databases. A similarity distance measure like Hausdorff distance is used for image matching, indexing and ranking of results considering the spatial information of the local structures in the image.
