In this paper, we present two watermarking schemes for images using the low-pass frequency coefficients and high-pass complex frequency coefficients of the Dual-Tree Complex wavelet Transform (DT-CWT) of the image, the distinctive characteristics of the two schemes can lead to different applications. We investigate the problem of embedding binary watermark sequence in DT-CWT domain, which is a challenging problem. The coefficients swapping is done by carefully selecting those 2×2 blocks with high-energy in the low frequency and swap the coefficients that lie in the median range in the block to embed the watermark. Whereas the group of coefficients quantization quantizes a group of high-pass complex frequency coefficients to make the quantized coefficients lie in the middle of the quantization range and distribute the changes among the coefficients. Experimental results conducted on 100 standard images achieve about 96% and 92% detection rate for the low-pass and high-pass frequency coefficients-based schemes, respectively. Robustness tests against some common signal processing attacks such as additive noise, median filtering and lossy JPEG compression confirm the superior performance of the proposed schemes.

Visual information transmitted in the form of digital images is becoming a major method of communication in the modern age, but the image obtained after transmission is often corrupted with noise. The received image needs processing before it can be used in the applications. image denoising involves the manipulation of the image data to produce a visually high quality image. This thesis reviews the existing denoising algorithms, such as filtering approach, wavelet based approach, and multifractal approach, and performs their comparative study. Different noise models including additive and multiplicative types are used. They include Gaussian noise, salt and pepper noise, speckle noise and Brownian noise. Selection of the denoising algorithm is application dependent. Hence, it is necessary to have knowledge about the noise present in the image so as to select the appropriate denoising algorithm. The filtering approach has been proved to be the best when the image is corrupted with salt and pepper noise. The Partial differential equation approach finds applications in denoising images corrupted with Gaussian noise. In the case where the noise characteristics are complex, the multi fractal approach can be used. A quantitative measure of comparison is provided by the signal to noise ratio of the image. Aim of the project is to reduce the speckle noise from the medical images by retaining most of the information, using fourth order partial differential equations and comparing the results with second order partial differential equation method, that is best suitable for a medical practitioner or a doctor to diagnose well by comparing this denoised image with the obtained.

This paper presents an novel bitwise minimum error replacement (MER) technique for data hiding. Such a bitwise MER can embed k-bit (k ≥ 1) secret data into cover data only introduce minimum embedding error smaller than (2 k-1 - 1)2 i-k according to the embedding location i. To achieve the goal of MER, we develop novel multi-bit bitwise 3-step MER algorithms to adaptively evaluate the most similar value to replace the original one, which consist of three steps: (1) embed logo data into cover data, (2) adjust the least-significant bits (LSBs) of cover data, and (3) adjust the maximum-significant bits (MSBs) of cover data. Reason that we called these multi-bit MER algorithms are "bitwise" is that data replacements are based on the logic and algebraic bit operations to achieve minimum error. Many simulations show that the proposed MER performs good embedding quality for watermarking and steganography applications.

Integration of the nonlinear approaches for system identification is proposed for spectral differentiation and object recognition in this research. Multi-scale nonlinear principal component analysis (NCA) has been implemented to analyze the individual components of approximations and details based on wavelet transform. Neural network training has been applied to NCA while both ID and 2D wavelet transform have been conducted across different scales. At each scale, the principal components are selected in order to reconstruct the intrinsic signal and image. This statistical identification approach is essential to enhance multivariate data processing. Case studies on signal and image processing are both conducted. In addition, quantitative measures are presented to analyze the nonlinear multi-scale approach from the objective perspectives.

Ouhsain et al [Expert Systems with applications 36, 2123-2129(2009)] presented a technique using DWT and NMF, which apply NMF to the blocks of the wavelet decomposition sub-band, and then is followed by eigendecomposition distortion. Motivated by the approach of Ouhsain et al, we proposed an improved image watermarking scheme. Our technique do not apply NMF to the blocks of the wavelet decomposition sub-band, direct apply SVD to these blocks. Our proposed algorithm is simpler than algorithm of Ouhsain et al. Experimental results demonstrate that the proposed scheme not only provides good fidelity and robustness against intentional attacks and normal visual processes, but also achieves a low computational complexity.

In our paper we present innovative approach to objective quality evaluation that could be computed using mean difference between original and tested image in different wavelet subbands. DWT subband decomposition properties are similar to human visual system (HVS) characteristics facilitating integration of DWT into image quality evaluation. DWT decomposition is done with multiresolution analysis of a signal that allows us to decompose a signal into approximation and detail subbands. DWT coefficients were computed using reverse biorthogonal spline wavelet filter banks. Coefficients for HH subband in level 2 are used to compute new image quality measure (IQM). IQM is defined as difference between HH level 2 coefficients of original and degraded image.

This paper presents an approach for early diagnostic of Breast Cancer using the dual-tree complex wavelet transform (DT-CWT), which detect micro-calcifications in digital mammograms. The approach follows four basic strategies, namely, image denoising, band suppression, morphological transformation and inverse complex wavelet transform. The procedure of image denoising is carried out with a thresholding algorithm that computes recursively the optimal threshold at each level of wavelet decomposition. In order to maximize the detection a morphological conversion is proposed and applied to the high-frequencies subbands of the wavelet transformation. This procedure is applied to a set of digital mammograms from the Mammography image Analysis Society (MIAS) database. Experimental results show that the proposed denoising algorithm and morphological transformation in combination with the DT-CWT procedure performs better than previous reported approaches.

Owing to the stochastic nature of discrete processes such as photon counts in imaging, real-world data measurements often exhibit heteroscedastic behavior. In particular, time series components and other measurements may frequently be assumed to be non-iid Poisson random variables, whose rate parameter is proportional to the underlying signal of interest-witness literature in digital communications, signal processing, astronomy, and magnetic resonance imaging applications. In this work, we show that certain wavelet and filterbank transform coefficients corresponding to vector-valued measurements of this type are distributed as sums and differences of independent Poisson counts, taking the so-called Skellam distribution. While exact estimates rarely admit analytical forms, we present Skellam mean estimators under both frequentist and Bayes models, as well as computationally efficient approximations and shrinkage rules, that may be interpreted as Poisson rate estimation method performed in certain wavelet/filterbank transform domains. This indicates a promising potential approach for denoising of Poisson counts in the above-mentioned applications.

for best performance in image compression, scalar wavelet requires filters that combine a number of desirable properties, such as orthogonality and symmetry. The Multiwavelet is a complete orthonormal and symmetry. Multwavelet shows promise in obviating some of the limitation of wavelet. In this work we compare the Multiwavelt with orthonormal Barkel wavelet, and 9/7 wavelet in image compression performance on 6 gray scale images. A proposed compression algorithm is used, which include the use of Round function and the Run Length Encoding techniques (RLE). The result is obtained in terms of PSNR, and Bit Rate (BitR). Extensive experimental results demonstrate that Multiwavelet methods exhibit performance high to, or in several cases superior to, the other methods in the proposed algorithm. This matches our expectation based on our results that indicate Multiwavelet have the highest result.

This paper discussed on the effectiveness of the Morlet wavelet to generate new edited signal. The 122.4 second SAESUS strain signal was edited based on the Morlet wavelet coefficient amplitude level. Segments with wavelet coefficient amplitude level lower than Cut Off Level (COL) were removed. Furthermore, extracted fatigue damaged segments were retained and then were joined in order to gain new edited signal. The signal statistical parameter and fatigue damaging values should be as accurate as possible for all signals. From the analysis, the 25,000 !" was selected to be the optimum COL value since the level did not change the signal behaviour. This value gave a 14 % reduction in length with only 6.1 % reduction in the fatigue damage. This indicated that the Morlet wavelet can be successfully applied to compress the original signal without changing the main history as well.
