The nature of image registration implies information processing that is cognitive in classifying sensory image data. In this paper, we propose to use Alamouti's orthogonal space-time block code to improve the performance and the robustness of the spread spectrum watermarking systems. After employing a space-time block code, we embed the coded watermark sequence into the host image in discrete wavelet transform domain. Simulation results show that the use of the space-time block codes considerably increases the robustness of the spead spectrum watermarking system under various attacks.

In this paper, a new approach of feature extraction method for handwritten Chinese character recognition called X-Y graphs decomposition is presented. Central to the proposed method is the idea of capturing the geometrical and topological information from the trajectory of the handwritten character using two unique decomposed graphs: X-graph and Y-graph. For feature size reduction, Haar wavelet is applied on the graphs, in which this is a new attempt of wavelet transform. Features extracted using X-Y graphs decomposition with Haar wavelet not only cover both the global and local features of the characters, but also are invariant of different writing styles. As a result, the discrimination power of the recognition system can be strengthened, especially for recognizing similar characters, deformed characters and characters with connected strokes. Experimental results have proved the efficiency of our proposed method and it is superior to other representative traditional feature extraction schemes with high recognition rate of 95.5%, despite of small dimensionality between 64 (inclusive) and 128 (exclusive) and less processing time.

This paper presents a simple Contourlet-based watermarking technique and investigates the role of Contourlet Transform (CLT) versus wavelet Transform (WT) in achieving a high level of robustness. The same embedding strategy is adopted for both cases of CLT-based watermarking and WT-based watermarking. Experimental results show the superiority of the CLT-based watermarking technique over the WT-based one in resisting the investigated common signalprocessing attacks.

We consider the problem of encoding individual live video streams in a single streaming server for a large number of clients. Our streams utilize the wavelet transform, require reliable transport to ensure a defined state and exploit this state by transmitting only changed rectangular image blocks for particular clients. To reduce cost we compute the wavelet transform once for all clients and separate its creation from the entropy encoding done for groups of clients with identical state. We analyze the dependencies between image pixels and wavelet transform coefficients for the biorthogonal 5/3 and 9/7 filter to update the transform in a blockwise fashion. This leads to significant improvement of the execution time if the fraction of changed blocks falls below a certain threshold. We construct a coefficient change mask to identify those coefficients that must be encoded in order to transmit the changed image blocks for groups of clients with identical state. To entropy encode them we modify the wavelet Difference Reduction (WDR) algorithm. This improves execution time up to a factor of four. We implemented the proposed compression system and present results for the execution time of the partial update of the wavelet transform and the rate-distortion performance.

This paper presents a static gesture recognition system for recognizing some selected words of Persian sign language (PSL). The required images for the selected words are obtained using a digital camera. The color images are first resized, and then converted to grayscale images. Then, the discrete wavelet transform (DWT) is applied on the selected images and some features are extracted. Finally, a multi layered Perceptron (MLP) Neural Network (NN) is trained to classify the selected images. Our recognition system does not use any gloves or visual marking systems. The system was implemented and tested using a data set of 240 samples of Persian sign images;30 images for each sign. The experiments show that the proposed system is able to classify the selected PSL signs with a classification accuracy of 98.75% when the network is trained using MATLAB NN Toolbox. In this report, a novel, multiscale wavelet-based image registration technique is proposed for image retrieval applications. The proposed technique addresses the problem of registration and alignment in the integrated framework. The use of multiscale wavelet representation with mutual information (MI) is expected to facilitate matching of important anatomical structures at multiple resolutions. We propose to use a dyadic grid in the parameter search space for efficient computation in the multiscale domain. We propose to use fuzzy logic based control to adaptively change the search step size based on rate of change in MI at coarse scale. The use of fuzzy logic is justified due to two important reasons. First, mathematical modeling of change in MI in various image modalities is difficult to obtain. Second, implementation of fuzzy control doesn't have any computational overhead as it is realized using simple look-up tables. The proposed approach has several novel aspects including the use of MI in multiscale wavelet domain and the use of fuzzy control for efficient parameter search in multiscale domain. The technique is also tested under varying noise levels. The preliminary results show the efficacy of the approach.

This paper present a novel content-based image authentication framework which embeds the semi-fragile image feature into the host image based on wavelet transform. In this framework, two features of a target image from the low frequency domain to generate two watermarks: Zernike moments for classifying of the intentional content modification and Sobel edge features for indicating the modified location. In particular, we design a systematic method for automatic order selection of Zernike moments and in order to tell if the processing on the image is malicious or not. We also propose a weighted Euclidean distance by a reconstruction process. An important advantage of our approach is that it can tolerate compression and noise to a certain extent while rejecting common attack of the image like rotation. Experimental results show that the framework can locate the malicious tampering for the resolution of a 8×8 block. Also, it is robust to content preserved processing, such as JPEG compression Q30 and Gaussian noise variance 20.
