We present a novel wavelet compression algorithm for both audio and image with acceptable test by human perception. It is well known that Discrete Wavelet Transform (DWT) provides global multiple resolution decomposition that is the significant feature for the audio and image compressions. Experimental simulations show that the proposed audio and image model can satisfy the current industrial communication requirements in terms of the processing time and the compression fidelity. Development of wavelet-based compression algorithm considers the trade-off for hardware implementations. As a result, this high-performance video codec can develop compact, low power, high-speed, portable, cost-effective, and low-weight video compression for multimedia and home security applications.

General stereo image matching provides an adequate but hard problem with sufficient complexity, with which the potential of wavelets may be exploited to a full extend. An ideal stereo image matching algorithm is supposed to be invariant to the scale, translation, rotation, and partial correspondence between two given stereo images. While the multi-resolution of wavelets is good at scale adaptivity, we also require the wavelet transform and pyramids to be translation- and rotation-invariant. This paper is intended to serve for three purposes: (1) To present the general problem of stereo image matching in a sufficient depth and extent, so that pure wavelet mathematicians could think on adequate and efficient solutions, (2) To present a complete algorithm for top-down image matching including surface reconstruction by using wavelet pyramids, (3) To search for a wavelet family optimal for image matching. It is expected that a family of adequately designed wavelets could provide a generic and robust solution to the stereo image matching problem, which could be an important breakthrough in computer vision, photogrammetry, and pattern recognition.

Since they are complex-valued functions, they provide the important phase information, which is missing in the discrete wavelet transform with real wavelets. Our basis elements have nice properties in Hilbert space such as smoothness of fractional order alpha is an element of R+. Wavelet image denoising practice has shown that the performance of simple estimators may be substantially improved by averaging these estimators over a collection of transformations such as translations or rotations. In this paper, we explain and quantify these empirical findings using estimation theory. We consider a general nonlinear observation model, analyze the estimation risk of transformation-averaged estimators, and derive an upper bound on the risk reduction due to transformation averaging. The bound is evaluated for several estimators, using different averaging strategies (including a randomized strategy) and different wavelet bases. The practical usefulness of the bound is established for standard image denoising examples.

This paper addresses the image denoising problem using a newly proposed digital image transform: the finite ridgelet transform (FRIT). The transform is invertible, non-redundant and achieved via fast algorithms. Furthermore this transform can be designed to be orthonormal thus indicating its potential in many other imageprocessingapplications. We then propose various improvements on the initial design of the FRIT in order to make it to have better energy compaction and to reduce the border effect. Experimental results show that the new transform outperforms wavelets in denoising images with linear discontinuities.

Aliasing is a common problem present in such downsampling. In this paper a novel technique for improving the low pass filter for improved downsampling is presented. This method uses an extra update step followed by P+U lifting scheme. The preprocessing update step is chosen as the dual update step associated with the wavelet. The spatially adaptive low pass (SALP) filtering concept is used for the second update step, leading to an overall low pass filter whose size adapts to the underlying signal content. The filter choices for the second update step is recovered at the decoder without any bookkeeping. Results using the 2D 5/3 wavelet with the extra pre-processing update step show improvements over conventional wavelets.
