An amputee due to birth trauma represents a very unique case, in which amputation occurred from delivery process itself. Providing appropriate prosthetics is crucial for enabling such case to improve their daily workout and provide entirely new experiences. However, in such case, conventional surface electromyography (sEMG)-based methods for prosthetic control are unsuitable due to the lack of sufficient sEMG signals, as a case has never used the amputated limb since birth. As an alternative to sEMG, we apply an electroencephalography (EEG)-based approach for prosthetic control. In this study, we demonstrated the feasibility of EEG-based motor imagery decoding for hand grasp types to control a prosthetic hand. We collected 10 days of EEG data about one subject and achieved a 10x5-fold cross-validation accuracy of 0.8740 ± 0.0965 in classifying cylindrical and lateral grasps using time delay embedding (TDE) and tangent space mapping (TSM). Our results demonstrate the effectiveness of TSM as an EEG decoder and the performance improvement achieved by TDE. future work will focus on adapting this approach for real-world brain-computer interface applications. © 2025 IEEE.

With the continuous advancement of communication technology, GEO (geostationary orbit) satellite has shown significant advantages in the field of long-distance communication, and will be an important part of the future satellite-earth converged communication architecture. In order to solve the problem of delay jitter in GEO satellite network using tcp protocol, we proposed BBR-SJ improvement protocol. BBR-SJ monitor the network time changes and dynamically adjust the transmission parameters, judging the degree of jitter based on the dispersion of delay data, and implementing corresponding rate control and congestion control strategy, effectively reduce the delay jitter on data transmission, and by extending the delay validity period detection window, reduce the error rate of the detection process. Simulation experiments show that BBR-SJ is excellent in reducing time delay jitter and improving transmission stability, effectively maintaining high-rate transmission and preventing network congestion, significantly enhancing the network performance, and providing a key technology for improving the service quality of satellite communication. © 2024 Copyright held by the owner/author(s).

Audits contribute to the trustworthiness of Learning Analytics (LA) systems that integrate Artificial Intelligence (AI) and may be legally required in the future. We argue that the efficacy of an audit depends on the auditability of the audited system. Therefore, systems need to be designed with auditability in mind. We present a framework for assessing the auditability of AI-integrating systems in education that consists of three parts: (1) verifiable claims about the validity, utility and ethics of the system, (2) evidence on subjects (data, models, or the system) in different types (documentation, raw sources and logs) to back or refute claims, (3) means to validate evidence such as technical APIs, monitoring tools, or explainable AI principles must be accessible to auditors. We apply the framework to assess the auditability of the Learning Management System Moodle, which supports an AI integrating dropout prediction system. Moodle's auditability is limited by incomplete documentation, insufficient monitoring capabilities, and a lack of available test data. Electronic nose (e-nose) technology has become a powerful tool for identifying and evaluating complex scents in a variety of contexts, such as environmental monitoring, medical diagnostics, and food quality control. This review study looks at how important pattern recognition and data processing are to improving e-nose system performance. This study covered challenges, including data complexity, cross-sensitivity and interference, sensor drift, and a lack of standardization. This paper introduces a mobile application that aims to improve exercise posture analysis in gym environments using machine learning and computer vision. The solution processes user-uploaded videos to detect posture errors, utilizing Long Short-Term Memory (LSTM) networks and MediaPipe for precise pose estimation. The trained model achieved high accuracy in classifying exercise postures, demonstrating reliable performance across different user scenarios. Traditional posture correction methods, such as personal trainers and wearable devices, often lack accessibility and precision. In contrast, our application offers a scalable, user-friendly tool that delivers actionable feedback, helping users optimize their workouts and reduce injury risks. The study highlights the potential of combining machine learning with mobile technology to enhance exercise safety and performance, setting a foundation for future improvements. The Norwegian construction industry has an increased use of two-stage contracts where clients and contractors collaborate on developing the project in the first stage before executing it in the stage. This study examines: 1) How did the two-stage model work from procurement to present, and 2) The positive and negative experiences with this model. A qualitative case study design combining literature review, 11 semi-structured interviews, and document studies has been used. As the client and contractor agreed on not to continue the collaboration after the first stage, the studied public hospital project turned from one two-stage contract to 28 design-bid-build contracts. Positive experiences from the first stage included optimised design, improved technical solutions, and multidisciplinary collaboration. Negative experiences involved challenges in reducing costs for a complex hospital with strict budget and functional requirements. The study concludes that early involvement in public hospital projects can be challenging if the budget is too low compared to the predefined requirements. In future two-stage contracts, the client should settle the minimum key requirements before the contractors submit their tenders. The study is one of the first to document the experiences from a two-stage contract where the client and the initial contractor agreed not to continue the collaboration after the first stage. These experiences can help future projects that encounter challenges in the first stage. © 2025 The Authors.

Automated grading systems, or auto-graders, have become ubiquitous in programming education, and the way they generate feedback has become increasingly automated as well. However, there is insufficient evidence regarding auto-grader feedback’s effectiveness in improving student learning outcomes, in a way that differentiates students who utilized the feedback and students who did not. In this study, we fill this critical gap. Specifically, we analyze students’ interactions with auto-graders in an introductory Python programming course, offered at five community colleges in the United States. Our results show that students checking the feedback more frequently tend to get higher scores from their programming assignments overall. Our results also show that a submission that follows a student checking the feedback tends to receive a higher score than a submission that follows a student ignoring the feedback. Our results provide evidence on auto-grader feedback’s effectiveness, encourage their increased utilization, and call for future work to continue their evaluation in this age of automation. Tuberculosis remains the leading cause of death from infectious bacterial diseases globally, as recognized by the World Health Organization. This study explores the implementation of digital health strategies aimed at improving data quality in laboratory indicators and TB control within São Paulo, Brazil. It identifies opportunities for enhancing laboratory processes, data integrity, and disease management. A socio-Technical approach was employed, fostering collaboration between system users and technical developers. Data were collected via the REDCap platform and evaluated on dimensions of accuracy, completeness, consistency, and timeliness. Analytical tools included Python libraries, the REDbox framework, and Apache Superset for data analysis, verification, validation, and visualization. The study involved 167 local laboratories from 13 Regional Laboratory Centers in São Paulo State. This research underscores the critical role of data quality in health surveillance and effective TB control. future efforts should focus on enhancing training programs, improving system usability, and leveraging advanced data analytics tools to support ongoing improvements in TB control. © 2025 The Author(s).
