Demand for High NA objective lenses with diffraction limited image quality is growing. This demand translates in design more complex optical system with many optical components. In order to optimize the most favorable arrangement of optical components new design methodology based on functional separation lens group in high numerical aperture (NA) objective was developed. For this purpose, all lens components were divided on the three-lens group: front group, middle group and output lens group. The front lens group includes front lens (thick meniscus for dry type of objective or thick piano-convex lens for immersion objective) and several a planatic shape meniscus lenses. The middle lens group consists of several cemented lens components (doublets or triplets) and output lens group includes "Double Gauss" lens system or combination of cemented doublet with one or two singlet lenses. The total number of lenses in such types of optical system can reach 15-16 or even more. design an optimal composition (optical components arrangement) for high numerical aperture objective lens will be discussed. Quantitative related parameter for optimal objective lens component's structure will be proposed.

Introduction of coefficients defining the relationship of the radii of curvature of the surfaces of concentric optical systems, allowed the transformation of the obtained analytical relations in a system of two equations with two unknowns. It is shown that the existence of the solution of the system of equations determined by the optical constants of the selected lens material. The results of the analysis of the conditions of the chromatic aberration correction position and the sequence of obtaining of the system equations define the theoretical basis of the engineering method of parametric synthesis of concentric lens systems. Application of the developed method is illustrated by examples of calculation particular systems design build.

With many optical systems the method that is used to align the optical system needs to be an integral portion of the system design and not an afterthought. Once all the pieces are in fabrication it may be too late to implement a cost-effective alignment procedure for both prototype and production designs. This is especially true with catadioptric systems where the mirror alignment tends to be very critical as far as system performance is concerned. This paper describes the design and use of an aspheric null mirror for the alignment of a two mirror subsystem to a lens cell. The optical system to be aligned was a six-in. EFL, F/2 system working in the 3-5 micrometers bandpass. It consisted of two aspheric mirrors, one aspheric lens, and two spherical lenses.

Modern cine lenses require a high degree of aberration correction over a large and ever expanding image size. At low to medium volume production levels, these highly corrected designs also require a workable tolerance set and compensation scheme for successful manufacture. In this paper we discuss the design and manufacture of cine lenses with reference to current designs both internal and in the patent literature and some experience in design, tolerancing and manufacturing these lenses in medium volume production.

A refractive astigmatic lens is employed to generate a focus error signal (FES) for servo control in general optical pickup. In this paper, a diffractive optical element (DOE) is designed to implement optical functions of astigmatic focusing for a MEMS-based miniature optical pickup at 650nm wavelength. We present a diffractive astigmatic lens with its internal zones and external zones quantized into four, two phase levels, respectively based on fabrication consideration. The optical simulation based on scalar diffraction theory shows the efficiency of this quantized lens for astigmatic focusing and a comparison of the FES in the optical pickup system has been plotted.

Dual field of view optical systems provide search, detect and observation abilities with wide and narrow field of views. These systems provide dual field of view by changing the effective focal length with moving a lens or lens group mechanically to exact positions. In this paper, previously proposed methodology is used to change effective focal length without any mechanical movement. This methodology relies on ionization of fluid with voltage difference to change the refractive index which is patented in 2022.

This study presents the methods for designing an expander lens for an MWIR zoom lens through the third-order aberration analysis and evaluating the optical zoom system. This expander lens is used to enlarge the focal lengths of an original main zoom lens two times, which unfortunately doubles the aperture size of the expander lens elements. Thus, this extended apertures significantly generate the aberrations of a zoom system. To solve the problem, an expander lens has been designed using the third-order aberration analysis numerically. Since an MWIR optical system uses a cooled detector, this zoom system should be designed to eliminate the narcissus effect. Using this design approach, we efficiently obtain an expander lens for an MWIR zoom system satisfying the current requirements.

In this paper, combining refractive and diffractive effects, a new kind of infrared lenses with wavelength 10.6 mu m was designed and produced for CO2 laser material processing. This refractive-diffractive lens (RDL) converts a CO2 laser beam into the rectangular shape with light intensity distribution in the concave shape at x-direction. A method which employs input aperture division and geometrical transformation technique for obtaining a better initial phase distribution of the iteration is presented. The experimental results show that the desired shape of the output light beam was obtained with a high efficiency in energy utilization.
