In a previous work, we described the theoretical fundamentals for the design of radiance meters. There, we observed that the length between the first and the second aperture of the instrument plays an important role in the performance of the meter. Such a length is a parameter related with the instrument response to variations of the size of the source and of the distance between the instrument and the source. Such dependences are not predicted by the theory of geometrical optics, normally used in the instrument design. Even the approximation of wave optics gives a partial understanding of the propagation of optical radiation. A more general treatment, based in the theory of partial coherence, gives a better description of the propagation.

A hyperspectral imaging spectrometer covering the wavelength range from 420 nm to 1000 nm is designed for the purpose of monitoring Earth's environmental change. It has an entrance slit length of 24 mu m, f/# of 3, smile and keystone distortion smaller than 20% of the pixel pitch and a spectral resolution of 6.5 nm. We design and review thirteen systems including one Offner system, two Schwarzschild systems and ten TMA systems for such specifications. Freeform surface and aspheric surface are used in some of the systems to achieve the required system parameters. With all system performance being summarized and evaluated, advantages and disadvantages of three different system types are compared. We down select two systems for further fine adjustments and tolerancing analysis. Final systems with superior performance and detailed tolerancing analysis are given at the end.

Over the past decade, 3M has developed a number of mobile projectors, with a goal towards providing the world's smallest, most efficient projection systems. Compact size and efficiency are required characteristics for projection systems used in mobile devices and more lately, in augmented reality systems. In this paper we summarize the main generations of 3M light engine optical designs. We present the optical architectures of four light engines, including the rationale behind the illumination designs and the projection systems. In particular, we describe various configurations relating to the 3M polarizing beam splitter (PBS) which is key to enhanced efficiency of the miniature projection systems.

aForward error correction enables reliable one-way communication over noisy channels, by transmitting redundant data along with the message in order to detect and resolve errors at the receiver. Low-density parity-check LDPC) codes achieve superior error-correction performance on Gaussian channels under belief propagation decoding, however, their complex parity-check matrix structure introduces hardware implementation challenges. This thesis explores how the quasi-cyclic structure of LDPC parity-check matrices can be exploited in the design of low-power hardware architectures for multi-Gigabit/second decoders realized in CMOS technology, as well as in the design and construction of multi-edge LDPC codes for long-distance beyond 100km) quantum cryptography over optical *** frame-interleaved architecture is presented with a path-unrolled message-passing schedule to reduce the complexity of routing interconnect in an integrated circuit decoder implementation. A proof-of-concept silicon test chip was fabricated in the 28nm CMOS technology node. The LDPC decoder chip supports the four codes presented in the IEEE 802.11ad standard, occupies an area of 3.41mm 2, and achieves an energy efficiency of 15pJ/bit while delivering a maximum throughput of 6.78Gb/s, and operating with a 202MHz clock at 0.9v supply. The test chip achieves the highest normalized energy efficiency among published CMOS-based decoders for the IEEE 802.11ad *** quasi-cyclic code construction technique is applied to a multi-edge LDPC code with block length of 106 bits in order to reduce the latency of LDPC decoding in the key reconciliation step of long-distance quantum key distribution. The GPU-based decoder achieves a maximum information throughput of 7.16Kb/s, and extends the current maximum transmission distance from 100km to 160km with a secret key rate of 4.10 x 10-7bits/pulse under 8-dimensional reconciliation. Head-up Display (HUD) is a safety feature for automobile drivers. Although there have been some HUD systems in commercial product already, their images are too small to show assistance information. Another problem, the volume of HUD is too large. We proposed a HUD including micro-projectors, rear-projection screen, microlens array (MLA) and the light source is 28 mm x 14 mm realized a 200 mm x 100 mm image in 3 meters from drivers. We want to use the MLA to reduce the volume by virtual image stitching. We design the HUD's package dimensions is 12 cm x 12 cm x 9 cm. It is able to show speed, map-navigation and night vision information. We used Liquid Crystal Display (LCD) as our image source due to its brighter image output required and the minimum volume occupancy. The MLA is a multi aperture system. The proposed MLA consists of many optical channels each transmitting a segment of the whole field of view. The design of the system provides the stitching of the partial images, so that we can see the whole virtual image. (C) 2016 optical Society of America

Tunable lenses have become very popular elements due their capacity of change their focal length by only modifying their shape. This characteristic is very useful in different applications in the field of optics. The development of tunable lenses consists on several phases: first, to find a suitable material, second, to obtain an optimal analysis and design, and third, to find the way to change the lens shape and characterization. In this work we present the characterization of a tunable lens, formed by spherical profiled elastic membranes and a liquid medium between them. The proposed liquid-filled tunable has a design such that the spherical aberration is the least to different focus. The development of an optomechanical system to change the lens shape is presented.

This paper presents a state-of-the-art analysis of the expected degradation processes of a variety of candidate container materials for the disposal of high-level waste and/or spent nuclear fuel. The work, focusing on the most recent developments, has been performed under the auspices of the Implementing Geological Disposal Technology Platform in the context of an international conference hosted by the Nuclear Waste Management Organisation of Canada (NWMO). The scope of the analysis includes the expected corrosion and environmentally assisted cracking behaviour of copper, carbon steel and titanium in contact with relevant buffer materials (e.g. bentonite, cement) and in conditions expected in an underground disposal facility (long-term anoxic conditions). Considerations relative to the expected evolution of the environmental conditions (especially in the period following backfilling) are also presented. Beyond summarising the current state of knowledge, areas in which opportunities for international collaboration may be present are also highlighted.

Experimental characterization and multi-physics simulation of a triple-junction cell in a novel hybrid III:v concentrator photovoltaic–thermoelectric receiver design with secondary optical element

A lattice-matched monolithic triple-junction Concentrator Photovoltaic cell (InGa (0.495) P/GaIn (0.012) As/Ge) was electrically and thermally interfaced to a Thermoelectric Peltier module. A single optical design secondary lens was bonded to the CPv-TE receiver. The hybrid SILO-CPv-TE solar energy harvesting device was electrically, thermally and theoretically investigated. The electrical performance data for the cell under variable irradiance and cell temperature conditions were measured using the integrated thermoelectric module as both a temperature sensor and as a solid-state heat pump. The cell was electrically characterised under standard test conditions (1000 W/m 2 irradiance, 25°C temperature and AM1.5G spectrum) for comparison with literature data. Transient multiphysics simulations in ANSYS CFX 15.0 were carried out to calculate cell temperatures and to determine the short circuit current and temperature coefficient in a scaling law. The optimization was used to determine 15 model parameters for the component sub-cells within the triple-junction cell at STC with a MATLAB scaling law. The root-mean-square error in electrical currents between measurement and simulations was 0.66%.

New generation of Compton sources are developing in different countries to take advantage of the photon energy amplification given by the Compton backscattering effect. In this framework the Eurogammas international collaboration is producing a very high brilliance gamma source for the Nuclear Physics pillar of the Extreme Light Infrastructure program (ELI-NP). At present there is a lot of effort in the mass production of all the components and in the developments and tests of the different high technology devices that will operate in the gamma beam source, like the optical recirculator and the high gradient - high average current warm C-band accelerating sections. 对ZK60镁合金进行不同温度固溶处理,采用浸泡腐蚀、电化学测量研究了固溶处理后合金在模拟体液(SBF)中的腐蚀性能。利用OM(金相观察)与SEM(扫描电镜)对合金组织、腐蚀产物和腐蚀形貌进行观察,并使用EDS对腐蚀产物成分进行分析。结果表明,经固溶处理后,铸态合金中第二相逐步溶解,降低了合金基体与第二相的电位差,使合金电偶腐蚀和局部腐蚀的倾向减弱,耐腐蚀性能提高。经330℃固溶处理后的ZK60合金,腐蚀速率为2.573mm/a,腐蚀电流密度与腐蚀电位分别为0.205mA/cm^2和-1.504v,生物耐腐蚀性能理想。
