It is shown that in domestic engineering industry ozonization of high voltage winding has been fully practically eliminated and thus accelerated deterioration of insulation and degradation of fasteners systems connected with ozonization process have been removed. To solve this task it was required to carry out priority developments in three directions - the development of lacquer semiconducting coating for the regulation of the edge field with raised current flow ability: the geometrical optimization of interphase winding zones;the development of basically new elements, established in these zones. The elements have fasteners of tanget type, made of semiconducting composition capable of capacitance-ohmic field regulation. The semiconducting coating developed and insulation design may be and in hydrogenerators for nominal voltage exceeding 16 kv.

The device has AlGaAs/GaAs heterojunction whigh allows an efficient coupling of gatin light to the critical region of the device, thus improving the gating gain and the current rate of rise.

The authors describe modulator developments for the Brookhaven booster extraction and the Alternating Gradient Synchrotron (AGS) injection fast kickers. To achieve the design specifications, an extensive development effort has been pursued, including distributed parameter estimation and measurement, computer aided analysis and design, pulse shaping and tail-biting circuit test, prototype construction, etc. The test results are presented. The modulators are projected for both proton and heavy ion operation. The equivalent load inductance is about 2.1 to 2.3 mu H for each modulator. The pulse-forming network (PFN) voltage is required to be below 40 kv for operation in air. The rise time of the pulse for proton beam transfer is 120 ns up to 97% of full current (1000A), and for heavy ion beam transfer, the requirement is 160 ns up to 98% of full current (1615 A). During the fourth batch transfer of the proton beam from the booster to the AGS, the pulse fall time of the AGS injection fast kicker has to be very fast (<140 ns), so that it does not appreciably deflect the first batch of injected protons that is circulating in the AGS.< >

Modern computer-integrated manufacturing and engineering (CIME) technologies have been developed and implemented to improve plant and process design, measurement and control design, and plant operation, together with the economic optimization of flow processes. Almost irrespective of which approach is selected for obtaining these results, success or otherwise is based on some process measurements, involving predominantly either temperature, pressure or flow. optical sensors are often being adopted for these tasks not only because of their non-intrusive nature, but also in view of their reliability, together with their high response speed, intrinsic resolution and increasing ruggedness. In addition, the development of new measurement capabilities such as easy adjustment for operating range, compensation for effects of environmental conditions and self-diagnosis, has given a considerable level of 'intelligence' to current sensors, which are smarter, smaller and cheaper than ever before. This paper reviews and discusses the implementation of advanced sensor systems for on-line measurements of process streams with emphasis on hot, dirty, hostile and multiphase environments. The requirements for the integration of the information from the sensors in a CIME environment are considered, taking into account the different levels of automation of typical processes. Novel methodologies, such as fiber-optic sensors, semiconductor materials, image processing and data analysis are discussed, as well as the use of 'intelligent' instruments as part of the push towards higher quality.

Many fundamental astronomical problems need much higher resolution than is afforded by atmospheric visibility or the diffraction limit of even the largest telescope being planned. The only way to meet these demands is by a distributed array of telescopes similar to those used in radio astronomy, or the long baseline stellar interferometry. China is planning to build a small-aperture long- baseline stellar optical interferometer for three purposes. One purpose is to clear up some problems before building a large and expensive interferometer. The second is to measure angular diameters of stars and angular distances between double stars. The third is to modify it for astrometry use in the future. In this paper, the design tolerance and specifications of the interferometer are discussed based on the astronomical requirements.

A new method for correcting comatic aberration in holographic optical
systems which uses constant optical path(COP) has been developed. The sum of
the optical path lengths from an object wavefront to an image wavefront remains
constant, and achromatic holographic systems can be easily calculated. Using COP,
a new focusing triplet was designed with wavelength tolerance of 9 nm for
entrance and exit numerical apertures of 0.5. This is 15 times larger than that
for conventional single holographic lens.
