The head-up display system (HUM) has been developed for the windshield of Nissan Motor's passenger car, '88 model of Silvia (240SX) and '89 model of Maxima. HUD consists of a projector with high brightness vFT and a combiner which is a light-selective reflective film applied on the surface of ' e windshield. The system provides nice display legibility of speed in a three-digit reap at the position more than one meter far from driver's eye even under the bright sunlight. In this report, we present the optical properties and manufacturing process of the advanced combiner. The combiner has to have high transmittance as well as high reflectance so that a driver can see both foreground object and display reading at the same time. The opticaldesign for the combiner is based on the concepts: (a) visible light transmittance has to be 70% or more in accordance with a legal requirement, and (b) taking both peak wavelengths of vim' and sensitivity characteristics of human eyes into consideration, 530nm of wave length is chosen as a reflective light. The combiner consists of a dielectric thin layer of Ti02-Si02 system. Its basic structure is decided by simulation with matrix method of the resultant waves. The coating film is applied on the restricted area of the forth surface of laminated windshield by newly developed solgel printing process using a metal alkoxide solution with a relatively long storage life.

The electron opticaldesign principles of a 50 kev comb probe printer with 1024 individually switchable 0.1 μm probes in a linear array are outlined. Theoretically the desired resolution of 25 nm and a current density of 50 A/cm2 can be achieved by applying a LaB6 linear source, a two lens condenser for forming a parallel ribbon beam and four imaging lenses operated telecentrically in couples for demagnifying the beam defining diaphragm array 100 times onto the wafer. A new source using a prismatically shaped LaB6 crystal and an experimental imaging column are in operation showing promising results.

InP Gunn diodes with current limiting cathodes have proven to be highly efficient, medium power devices at millimeter wave frequencies up to 110 GHz. Device and circuit designs have continously improved and cw efficiencies of 21% and 6.3% have recently been obtained at 35 GHz and 94 GHz respectively. Using these basic InP devices in planar microstrip circuits along with special flip chip GaAs varactors, wide band tunable planar vCO's have been developed for these millimeter wave frequencies. Also as a result of the current limiting design, these InP Gunn diodes work well as stabilized reflection amplifiers and stable amplifier designs have been made up to 110 GHz with output power levels sufficient to drive very high output power tubes.
