This paper reports on the exposure of visible wavelength camera optical elements to a simulated orbital radiation environment in support of the Restore-L flight project at NASA's Goddard Space Flight Center. Borosilicate glasses with various metal oxide dopants - S-LAL8, S-LAL18, N-SF1, and the polycarbonate material Makrolon GP were exposed to electrons and protons of varying energies. Low energy (E <= 10keV) charged particles were used primarily to assess degradation to the antireflective coatings of the optical elements. High energy (E similar to 1 MeV) charged particles were used to evaluate degradation to the bulk material. Elements of S-LAL18, N-SF1, LaK9G15, and Makrolon GP were exposed to a representative atomic oxygen rich environment. Elements of S-LAL8 and Makrolon GP were exposed to intense ultraviolet radiation. Pre- and post-exposure transmittance measurements were used to quantify the effects on the elements tested in the simulated environment over the 0.3 to 1.2 micron wavelength range. Our measurement results will be discussed in the context of their robustness to the orbital environment and the known chemical constituents of the materials tested.

Structured waves are ubiquitous for all areas of wave physics, both classical and quantum, where the wavefields are inhomogeneous and cannot be approximated by a single plane wave. Even the interference of two plane waves, or a single inhomogeneous (evanescent) wave, provides a number of nontrivial phenomena and additional functionalities as compared to a single plane wave. Complex wavefields with inhomogeneities in the amplitude, phase, and polarization, including topological structures and singularities, underpin modern nanooptics and photonics, yet they are equally important, e.g., for quantum matter waves, acoustics, water waves, etc. Structured waves are crucial in optical and electron microscopy, wave propagation and scattering, imaging, communications, quantum optics, topological and non-Hermitian wave systems, quantum condensed-matter systems, optomechanics, plasmonics and metamaterials, optical and acoustic manipulation, and so forth. This Roadmap is written collectively by prominent researchers and aims to survey the role of structured waves in various areas of wave physics. Providing background, current research, and anticipating future developments, it will be of interest to a wide cross-disciplinary audience. © 2023, CC BY.

Emerging applications, such as mobile cloud computing and WSN, bring lots of challenges to current data center networks, and many of them need to construct their own virtual networks (VNs) for the flow-line calculation. Besides, delay-sensitive applications, like IoV and mobile 5G broadband application, require to move the computing resource and some parts of databases closed to customer sites. Thus, the computing resource near application fields, the so-called edge computing, becomes more and more in short supply;meanwhile, the backbone network is under an increasing pressure on the long-haul communication workload. In this paper, we first make a knowledge-aware of VN and design a mapping orchestration based on the QoS requirement features and workload matching. Here, we distinguish the computing requirement from each virtual node in VN and allocate them into edge or cloud DC, respectively. Then, we formulate this resource allocation problem and propose a fast and efficient algorithm. Finally, the numerical results verified the advantages of our algorithm in terms of average computing latency and average transmission latency.

CMOS technologies have swiftly ameliorated across the past few years. To meet the demand of high performance applications like compact disc players, high definition television (HDTV), radar, medical imaging etc., this employs info conversion system for processing at later stages. Accuracy is highly desirable in many functional systems like optical communication, military surveillance etc. In optical communication system, transimpedance amplifier (TIA) is the fundamental part of optical receiver which is required to convert the low level current signal from the photodiode to an operable output voltage for further processing. Here in this paper, we propose a CMOS TIA using class-AB flipped voltage follower having less output resistance. Simulation results of the proposed circuit in 0.18 mu m technology depicts that the bandwidth and the transimpedance gain obtained are increased by 3.3 times and 1.03 times respectively.

随着芯片特征尺寸的不断减小,借助193 nm准分子光源的浸没式深紫外光刻技术已进入瓶颈,使用多次曝光技术的工艺路线也已到达目前的商用极限。极紫外光刻(EUVL)采用13.5 nm的极紫外光源,被认为是下一代光刻商用化路线必需的技术。综述了激光等离子体13.5 nm EUVL光源的原理和最新进展,分别从驱动光源、靶材、收集镜等关键子系统展开介绍。讨论了激光等离子体光源进一步发展过程中需要解决的问题,如提升激发光功率、提高转换效率及延长光源寿命,特别分析了日本Gigaphoton公司和荷兰ASML公司的EUVL光源装置。

Today, there are many recent developments that focus on improving the electric vehicles and their components, particularly regarding advances in batteries, energy management systems, autonomous features and charging infrastructure. This plays an important role in developing next electric vehicle generations, and encourages more efficient and sustainable eco-system. This paper not only provides insights in the latest knowledge and developments of electric vehicles (EVs), but also the new promising and novel EV technologies based on scientific facts and figures-which could be from a technological point of view feasible by 2030. In this paper, potential design and modelling tools, such as digital twin with connected Internet-of-Things (IoT), are addressed. Furthermore, the potential technological challenges and research gaps in all EV aspects from hard-core battery material sciences, power electronics and powertrain engineering up to environmental assessments and market considerations are addressed. The paper is based on the knowledge of the 140+ FTE counting multidisciplinary research centre MOBI-VUB, that has a 40-year track record in the field of electric vehicles and e-mobility.

This paper motivates the need for a new spectrum for current and future wireless networks. Furthermore, it argues that wireless networks based on light waves are at a very mature state. To this end, we introduce a taxonomy that defines the four major developments in this field: i) visible light communications (VLC), ii) optical camera communication (OCC), iii) free-space optical (FSO) communications, and iv) light-fidelity (LiFi) and discuss these technologies in the context of industrial private networks. Finally, key existing challenges are discussed in detail, and an outlook is provided.

A new type-ii lepidocrocite-type TiO2/GaSe heterostructure: Electronic and optical properties, bandgap engineering, interaction with ultrafast laser pulses

Recently, van der Waals heterostructure has attracted interest both theoretically and experimentally for their potential applications in photoelectronic devices, photovoltaic devices, plasmonic devices and photocatalysis. Inspired by this, we design a lepidocrocite-type TiO2/GaSe heterostructure. Via first-principles simulations, we show that such a heterostructure is a direct bandgap semiconductor with a strong and broad optical absorption, ranging from visible light to UV region, exhibiting its potential application in photoelectronic and photovoltaic devices. With the planar-averaged electron density difference and Bader charge analysis, the heterostructure shows a strong capacity of enhancing the charge redistribution especially at the interface, prolonging the lifetime of excitons, and hence improving photocatalytic performance. By applying biaxial strain and interlayer coupling, the heterostructure exhibits a direct-indirect bandgap transition and shows a potential for mechanical sensors due to the smooth and linear variation of bandgaps. Furthermore, our result indicates that a lower interlayer distance leads to a stronger charge redistribution. The calculation of irradiating ultrafast on the heterostructure further reveals a semiconductor-metal transition for the heterostructure. Moreover, we find an enhanced induced plasmonic current in the heterostructure under both x-polarized and z-polarized laser, which is beneficial to plasmonic devices designs. Our research provides valuable insight in applying the lepidocrocite-type TiO2/GaSe heterostructure in photoelectronic, photovoltaic, photocatalytic, mechanical sensing and plasmonic realms. Fundus cameras are the current clinical standard for capturing retinal images, which are used to diagnose a variety of sight-threatening conditions. Traditional fundus cameras are not easily transported, making them unsuitable for field use. In addition, traditional fundus cameras are expensive. Due to this, a variety of technologies have been developed such as the D-EYE Digital Ophthalmoscope (D-EYE Srl, Padova, Italy) which is compatible with various cellphone cameras. This paper reports on the comparison of the image quality of the Nidek RS-330 OCT Retina Scan Duo (Nidek, Tokyo, Japan) and the D-EYE paired with an iPhone 6 (Apple, Cupertino, USA). Twenty-one participants were enrolled in the study of whom 14 underwent nonmydriatic and mydriatic imaging with the D-EYE and the Nidek. Seven participants underwent nonmydriatic imaging with the D-EYE and the Nidek. The images were co-registered and cropped so that the region of interest was equal in both the D-EYE and Nidek images, as the D-EYE had a smaller field of view. Using the Nidek image as the reference, objective full-reference image quality analysis was performed. Metrics such as structural similarity index and peak signal noise ratio were obtained. It was found that the image quality of the D-EYE is limited by the attached iPhone camera, and is lower when compared to the Nidek. Quantification of the differences between the D-EYE and Nidek allows for targeted development of smartphone camera attachments that can help to bridge the current gap in image quality.

Advances in our understanding of the Universe depend on improvements in sensitivity and angular resolution that can come only with larger telescopes. Telescope diameters increased by almost an order of magnitude in the last century, but that growth has been sporadic, limited mainly by the ability to make bigger mirrors that hold their shape against the dynamic effects of gravity, wind and temperature. Three major advances in mirror technology occurred in the 1980s, including the lightweight honeycomb mirrors made at the Richard F. Caris Mirror Lab at the University of Arizona. In this informal paper, I will describe these technologies and show how they enabled the current generation of 8- to 12-m telescopes and how they are now being used to build telescopes of 25 to 39 m.
