In this study, we propose a new micro-optical system with 1.65 zoom ratio for image stitching. The new system with four layers is based on microlenses and liquid lens arrays. In order to realize the zoom function, we design the first and the fourth layers by the liquid lens and we also set up the second and the third layers as the fixed lens to tilt the optical axes. The length of the system is 6.4 mm, the image size 8.6 x 6.6 mm(2), the field of view (FOV) 50 degrees in wide mode and the field of view 28 degrees in tele mode. The MTF and distortion are used to demonstrate the zoom function, the stitching function and the stitching with zoom function, respectively. We use the ZEMAX ray-tracing software to demonstrate the simulation of image stitching in wide and tele modes.

Now a days designing techniques are very much concerned about the leakage currents reduction at different stages of abstraction. Leakage reduction strategies can be categorized on the basis of their effectiveness and output rate of 3 major classes: enhanced devices, trade off techniques, and leakage management. Static power consumption by the leakage currents is the main issue in CMOS ICs with gate lengths of 90 nm and less than that. Generally, the procedure allied with deviation may extensively amplify the whole amount of static current usage rate. The prime sources of variability are changes in: (i) changes in channel dimensions, (ii) changes in oxide thickness (iii) changes in channel doping profiles. Channel aspect of transistor in profound submicron technologies are subjected to the "classical" optical resolution bound. The 90 nm or 65 nm channel length is defined with wavelength of lower UV of 193 nm (or 157 nm). Static current expenditure has turn out to be extremely significant issue for the developers of lower submicron CMOS process and for designers of circuits. As the length of gate and threshold voltage reduces the subthreshold drain current rises significantly. Other components of the total static current consumption, such as gate tunneling currents, also come into existence. These issues have been covered in this work very effectively from designing perspective. (C) 2019 Elsevier Ltd. All rights reserved.

Effects of a coating combination, a prism film and a phosphor layer on the short current of the solar cell in the optical solar concentrator and the illuminance of the sunlight passing through the samples were investigated. The optical solar concentrator was a 50 mm x 50 mm x 5 mm B270 thick glass with its sides connected by a solar cell. The prismatic structure of the prism film had a period of 50 mu m. A phosphor Y560 having an absorption band of 390 nm to 500 nm and emitting from 490 nm to 700 nm was prepared. Six coating combinations applied in this study were composed of optical filters and glass. The optical filters included infrared cut-off, magenta, red, green and blue filters. The deflection angle was between 31 and 33 degrees when the incident sunlight passed through the prism film. The short current of the solar cell in the optical solar concentrator with the prism film, the coating combination and the phosphor layer was largest in this study. Experimental results show that the coating is more suitable for enhancing the short current than the phosphor layer in the optical solar concentrator with the prism film. And the phosphor layer can increase the illuminance of the sunlight passing through the samples due to the human eye sensitivity.

The main characteristic of adaptive lenses is to change their shape, and consequently their focal length, by modifying their physical parameters. On the other hand, Fresnel lenses have such features as large aperture, short focal length, they are slim and reduced in size. These kind of lenses have become very popular due to their applications, such as in compound eyes, optical communication systems, photolithography, imaging systems, etc. Nowadays, several kinds of tunable lenses exist such as those made with dielectric materials, lenses that change their focal length by varying the refractive index of the material, liquid lenses composed by elastic membranes and solid elastic lenses. In this work, we present the design, simulation of the mechanical behavior using Finite Element Method (FEM) and cost analysis of an Adaptive Fresnel Lens made of an elastic material, together with a mechanical mounting system. Our study considered the use of design thinking methodology to obtain the best optical design at minimal cost. Analysis, results and future applications are presented.

The space investigation project "Lira-B" is purposed to perform a high-precision multicolor photometric all-sky survey of objects from 3 to 16 m. This investigation concludes in multiple photometric measurements in ten spectral bands from 200 to 1000 nm. Such telescope systems should provide maximum light gathering and meet stray light requirements. The main goal of the given work is optical design of the telescope system with lens hoods protecting against the parasitic illumination. Analysis of impact of the lens hoods' surface structure and coatings on the image quality is performed and ways to reduce the stray light in the system. The modeling is carried out using Zemax OpticStudio software in the non-sequential mode.

Avalanche photodiodes (APDs) that target a wavelength of 1550 nm have several applications ranging from optical communications to imaging to single photon detection. The DE-JTO will use an array of APDs to image the wavefront of its 1550 nm laser. The distinctive feature of an APD is high sensitivity due to the gain achieved by the impact ionization of carriers. Because impact ionization is a stochastic process, it introduces excess noise that limits the signal to noise ratio of an APD. However, the excess noise may be reduced by engineering the k (=beta/alpha) value of the device, where beta and alpha are the impact ionization coefficients of holes and electrons, respectively. k can be engineered by band diagram engineering([1]), band structure engineering([2]), or dead space effect([3,4]). Combinations of these are also used([5]). Band diagram engineering enables the implementation of Capasso's channeling APD([1]). In this design, electrons and holes are spatially separated in different channels with distinct materials and bandgaps. These channel materials are designed to minimize the impact ionization of one carrier and promote the other, thereby optimizing k and excess noise. The two limitations of the Capasso design are: (1) the high leakage current due to doping the channels, and (2) the excess noise due to dual carrier injection. We overcome these limitations as follows. (1) A Type I band alignment with doping was suggested by Capasso to spatially separate the carriers between narrow and wide bandgap materials. However, a Type ii band alignment may inherently provide the field via the valance band offset that is required for the spatial separation of carriers. Moreover, a Type ii alignment avoids the doping that could lead to leakage currents. (2) A channeling APD has a planar configuration leading to dual carrier injection that increases the excess noise. As an application of the PV technology, building integrated photovoltaic (BIPV) technologies have attracted an increasing interest in the past decade. One of these BIPV elements is the luminescent solar concentrators (LSCs). The LSC consists of a transparent plate embedded with luminescent dyes or inorganic particles, and the solar cells are attached on one or more sides. The incoming sunlight absorbed by the luminescent dyes or inorganic particles re-emits at a longer wavelength, and part of the re-emitting light trapped in the transparent plate reaches the PV cell attached on the LSC and convert it to electricity. However, the efficiency of the LSCs is still low at this stage. The surface loss on the top surface of the transparent plate is one of the main losses in LSCs. The prism film in liquid-crystal display (LCD) module is used to collimate the light in the module and enhance the overall brightness, and would be used in the LSCs to enhance the incoming sunlight to the solar cells attached on the end of the transparent plate. Then the design of the prism film is important. In this study, the ray-tracing simulation is used to investigate the optical characteristics of the LSC with the prism film covered on the top surface of the transparent plate. Different structure of the prism film will be considered to enhance the light reaches the PV cell attached on the LSC.

Modern optical systems are subject to very restrictive performance, size and cost requirements. Especially in portable systems size often is the most important factor, which necessitates elaborate designs to achieve the desired specifications. However, current designs already operate very close to the physical limits and further progress is difficult to achieve by changing only the complexity of the design. Another way of improving the performance is to tailor the optical properties of materials specifically to the application at hand. A class of novel, customizable materials that enables the tailoring of the optical properties, and promises to overcome many of the intrinsic disadvantages of polymers, are nanocomposites. However, despite considerable past research efforts, these types of materials are largely underutilized in optical systems. To shed light into this issue we, in this paper, discuss how nanocomposites can be modeled using effective medium theories. In the second part, we then investigate the fundamental requirements that have to be fulfilled to make nanocomposites suitable for optical applications, and show that it is indeed possible to fabricate such a material using existing methods. Furthermore, we show how nanocomposites can be used to tailor the refractive index and dispersion properties towards specific applications.

The CO2 laser systems are widely used for different specialised surgery types and cosmetological procedures. The market is filled with various offers regarding the systems, however, every manufacturer supplies a very limited range of handpieces with the equipment. Thus, the work of surgeon or a medical worker is complicated by the discrepancy of a handpiece with the ergonomic/ technical requirements for a specific procedure. It may result in negative consequences of the procedure itself or a choice not in favor of laser technologies. The work presents the design of optical system and construction of specialised handpieces for CO2 laser system based on the discussion with medical workers of several hospitals that directly interact with the equipment and the technical requirements of medical procedures.

We study the formation of caustic surfaces produced by cemented doublet lenses, considering a plane wavefront propagating parallel to the optical axis and neglecting the refractive index of the optical cement between two simple lenses which are in contact. We have already seen that the shape of caustic surfaces can represent the monochromatic aberrations that we call image errors;furthermore the shape of the caustic can be modified by changing the parameters of design for two conic lenses in contact, in such a way that if we are able to vanish the caustic, the optical system produces either an image without spherical aberration or longitudinal chromatic aberration reduced, commonly known as spherochromatism. The shape of the caustic surface is a function of the indices of refraction involved in the process of refraction, and all the parameters of two simple lenses. We provide an analytic equation for the caustic surfaces in a meridional plane and an example is presented.
