With the advancements in technologies, the need for Human's perspective and human-centered designs are in much demand and its essential to understand diverse cultural needs. The community in South asia has been recognized to have a unique and diverse socio-cultural, political, infrastructural, and geographical background of the region. However, we continue to see that the studies presented to the CHI community about South asia primarily focus on working with and unpacking the regional contextual constraints (of the users and the infrastructures), thus taking a developmental stance. We witness a lack of HCI work presented by South asian research community promoting diverse methods, cultures and behaviors. We believe this is due to limited experience in the field and resources. In this online workshop, we take advanced steps to operationalize collaborations and resource sharing between HCI researchers by presenting their half-baked ideas, presenting published HCI work on other venues, or even sharing challenges faced in a Rejected HCI work in the context of South asia. Our aim is to broaden the perspective of the CHI research and community towards the contributions from the region including and beyond development, by bringing together researchers, designers, and practitioners working or are interested in working within these regions on diverse topics. © 2023 Owner/Author.

In an age of commercialism and consumerism, there has been a notable demise in the employment of a tectonic expression in the making of architecture. This is due in part to a culture of mass production to meet the rising needs of consumers, resulting in a shift in the emphasis of the value of detailing and construction as an architectural expression. Instead, there arose a preoccupation with pastiche ornamentation, reducing the significance and meaning within detailing. Furthermore, construction began to be viewed as a means to achieve spatial effect as an end. However, the need for a tectonic expression in architecture has been highlighted by Western key thinkers such as Kenneth Frampton, Vitorrio Gregotti and Marco Frascari, who have stated that tectonic can be employed as a resolution to the degeneration of culture as a result of homogeneity of architecture. This is because tectonic involves the poetic amplification of construction knowledge which stems from culture and craftsmanship, and an appropriate application of tectonic in construction can lead to the construal of meaningful architecture. In asia (Malaysia), there is limited study on the meaning of craft that stems from the richness of local cultures in relation to tectonics. By adopting a mixed-methodology of case study and interview, this paper studies works of Wooi Lok Kuang, a seminal Malaysian architect published for his folio of timber architecture, namely, Wooi Residence (2004), Ting Residence (2010) and House 9 (2015). It situates Wooi's design methodology of assembly of 'joints' in an asian/Malaysian context within the larger body of knowledge regarding tectonics as found in the western literature and argues that Wooi's design methodology that is rich in cultural and contextual influences expounds on Frascari's framework of 'joints', including key factors that are specific to Wooi's architecture and the Malaysian context. © 2018 Web Portal IOP. Study region: We do not target particular region, but we implement the workshop experiments towards the researcher groups in the laboratories. Study focus: When we discuss hydrology in the context of water-energy-food nexus, the discussion will inevitably include interdisciplinary contents. For example, in the impact assessment of groundwater use we need understanding whole mechanisms composed of all kinds of causal linkages from the groundwater concept or the groundwater issues. In this article we focus on ontology engineering, which is one of the base technologies in Semantic Web technology, as a method providing common terms, concepts, and semantics. New hydrological insights: We discuss the effectiveness of ontology engineering approach in the process of collaborative research, and propose the way of ontology use contributing to interdisciplinary research through the experimental workshops of research development. The introduction of ontology engineering approach will enable us to share a common language and a common theoretical basis. But the development of the new method based on ontology engineering is necessary. For example, knowledge structuring according to each perspective of researchers and simple figure accompanied with a reasoned argument in the background are the directions of tool development. In the new times, we are supposed to build artistic brands, perfect the art industry system, enrich artistic exchange patterns, promote the exchange in respect of width and depth, and establish a scientific and effective two-way exchange mechanism based on the inter-subject communication theory and interactive cooperation theory and according to the characteristics of Central asian countries.

A Product-Service System (PSS) is a system of products, services, supporting networks and infrastructure that is designed to satisfy customer needs and to generate values. PSSs are very different from each other while some PSSs are similar to some. A representation framework of PSSs has been devised so that various PSSs could be represented and compared with the framework. Also the framework could serve as a design guide to consider issues in the specific spaces of the representation framework in design stage. The framework is composed of twelve dimensions such as value, product, service, touchpoint, customer, business model, actor, society, context, time and environment. In this paper, the framework and its dimensions are described.

How to manage design efficiently in manufacturing industry is not a new topic. However, current knowledge system is built on western experience, which is in developed economics and cradle for design management concepts. In those developing countries, with young and high growth economics, manufacturers have to learn and adapt to local context to survive in fierce competition. Their distinguished performance on managing design is disclosed in this paper. Based on it, two layers of managing design is discovered. Usually, manufacturers focus on building design ability via investment in visible factors, while neglect invisible factors, which will determine strategy and sustainability of design.

As products have become more homogenous, the Chinese knitwear market has been shrinking during the last decade. This paper argues that this is due to a lack of design creativity in Chinese knitwear brands. This research focuses on the internal creativity culture in knitwear companies and the influencing factors in design processes. In addition, it explores the reasons why design creativity is undervalued in design management and design education in China. The aim is to help the Chinese knitwear industry to deal with their problems throughout the development of their designs and images.
