In line with the emerging Industry 5.0 paradigm's human-centricity characteristic, manual assembly has long been an indispensable element of small-batch and customized products. However, the complex assembly information brings a huge cognition burden for the worker, which restricts the development of the human-centric assembly. To take advantage of the valuable model-based definition (MBD) information in the intelligent manufacturing environment for cognition assistance, an MBD-enabled digital twin modeling method is studied. Firstly, the MBD information is divided into five layers to describe the information according to the assembly process. Based on the assembly layer information of the MBD model, an MBD-digital twin (MBD-DT) model framework is established to illustrate the connection between the MBD model and the digital twin assembly. The MBD-DT modeling problem is solved by an optimization method for assembly model mapping. Finally, the cognition needs in the manual assembly process are analyzed, and the cognition assistance method using the MBD-DT model is discussed. The research of this paper can be applied to digital manufacturing enterprises, extending MBD resources from the design end to the on-site assembly end, providing real-time assistance for manual assembly, and achieving sustainability in human-centric smart assembly, which meets the core value of Industry 5.0.

The construction industry has changed rapidly with the development of digital technology in recent years. A new technology called Building Information modeling (BIM) has arisen as multidimensional models to create, analyze, and communicate information. This technology has the potential to revolutionize the design and construction processes of projects. To motivate the adoption of BIM, the study on influencing factors has received much attention from many scholars. In this paper, 33 influencing factors including advantages, obstacles, drivers, and critical success factors were gathered from previous studies, which were classified into six key aspects for the application of BIM in the construction industry under the TOE expanded framework (Technology, Organization, Environment, Economic, Legal, and human). These factors were ranked based on the occurrence frequency of factors synthesized from previous studies. The results show that culture of change, interoperability, standards, top management support, and cost of software are the most important factors influencing adoption of BIM. This contribution helps stakeholders focus on controlling the key factors and recommends solutions to encourage the use of BIM. © 2024, The Author(s), under exclusive license to Springer Nature Singapore Pte Ltd.

The Space Station design Workshop (SSDW), a cornerstone initiative at the Institute of Space Systems, University of Stuttgart, has been instrumental in educating students and young professionals in space station design for over 25 years. In 2024, the workshop was conducted in cooperation with the Technical University of Munich for the first time, marking a significant collaborative milestone. Building on extensive experience, a refined methodology incorporating Connected engineering principles was implemented, centered around the integration of the SYNERA software tool. This enhancement aimed to improve design process efficiency, team collaboration, and adaptability to evolving requirements. The integration of SYNERA led to an improvement in design iteration speed and an increase in inter-team data sharing compared to previous workshops. This paper analyzes the methodological advancements, the refined Connected engineering workflow developed within the international Planetary Sunshade (IPSS) project framework, and practical experiences from SSDW 2024. It highlights the potential of these innovations to advance space systems design education and practice, aligning with the increasing industry demand for digital transformation and Model-Based Systems engineering (MBSE).

The improvements about the quality of life and human health have been considered important in the development of national and enterprise policies. Participation in a regular exercise program can effectively improve health status and prevent disease. The research of health status monitor and prediction during exercise is benefit to obtain the good exercise affects and avoid some exercise accidents in advance. With the development of computer and AI technologies, it becomes possible to monitor and predict some exercise accidents in advance by computer simulation modeling. In this paper, an intelligence exercise health simulation model based on dynamic thermal regulation is presented, which comprises a dynamic metabolic rate model driven by the change of heart rate to solve the problem that metabolism is set as a constant in the traditional simulation method and can more truly reflect the impact of exercise intensity, and an improved thermal regulation model of human body empowered by dynamic metabolism that is able to simulate physiological phenomena of human body in exercise more accurate. During the numerical simulation processing, some important physiological indicators are calculated to reflect the thermal physiological regulation dynamic change in the exercise. The analysis and monitoring of simulated physiological indicators can help people get healthy exercise and prevent accidents. We design the health prediction module to realize the intelligently prediction of health symptoms in exercise. The effectiveness of the proposed simulation model is verified by experiments. © 2022 IEEE.

human nose detects every kind of odors and our brain responds to every kind of smell that we are inhaling, so in the same way artificial nose or the electronic nose is a device that detects the smell and can enable the scope of digital smell technology. So, this paper proposes to optimize the design of an electronic nose that will eventually bring modification to the various digital platforms like internet, computers, mobile, television and tablets. We focused on design optimization of electronic nose which is built on a multichannel gas sensor array. The proposed electronic nose will enable the transmission or reception of smell over the internet and other digital platforms. The device can detect the smells of vapors coming out of volatile organic compounds. The sensing system is 3D printed in the model of a human nose. The sensing system works with an accuracy of detection of 90.45%. The response time of the electronic nose is 60 to 90 seconds, sometimes it is lesser than 60 seconds and it varies from substance to substance.

This article is devoted to information processing, simulation, and mathematical modeling of vessel human operators' actions and signal and image processing during human computer interaction, and also further vessel computer control system learning. The report provides a brief overview of the results obtained in the course of processing data from experiments carried out on vessel computer control systems' simulators and real vessel computer control systems. Processing of the experimental information made it possible to obtain quantitative and qualitative assessments of the human operator's decisions. The report discusses the correspondence between the results of computer simulations of human operator actions and the results of experiments conducted on vessel computer control systems' simulators and real vessel computer control systems. A qualitative description of practical results and practical recommendations for vessel control system interface design to improve the reliability of the vessel operator's control actions are given. Further research directions are outlined. Research gaps are also discussed.

To differentiate from competitors, it has become increasingly important to design products based on the 'Kansei value,' which impresses and inspires consumers. However, the perceptual indices of products are generally designed qualitatively, which is not only time-consuming but also costly. Therefore, in recent years, studies have been conducted to discuss the relationship between some perceptions by applying multivariate analysis and machine learning to the adjectives related to perception and affective response. Nonetheless, determining the structure that expresses the relationship of the adjectives is obtained by trial and error, based on the hypothesis of the researchers. Therefore, we aimed to investigate a method for mechanically exploring some semi-optimal structures without a hypothesis of the model structure by applying a genetic algorithm to the construction of adjective relationships using structural equation modeling. In this study, we prepared a four-layered model according to the human perception process for eight categories of material samples and constructed a relationship from a total of 20 words perceived from each sample. Consequently, we could construct a perceptual model that can be interpreted quantitatively and semantically using the proposed method. The advantage of this technique is that it can be used to construct important structures that might be overlooked. © 2022 IEEE.

The purpose of this article is to present the advances in the development of the navigation systems of an autonomous sailboat using the Gazebo simulation environment, which is based on the Robot Operating System (ROS). This type of vessel is known as a robotic sailboat and their main characteristic is that they have the capacity to perform planning and navigation tasks in an automatic manner without the need for human input. In essence, a robotic sailboat uses digital control systems to perform the same tasks that adjust the course of a traditional vessel, such as sail control and rudder actuation. The advantage of using a simulation environment such as Gazebo for this purpose is that its open-source nature allows code from different developers to be compiled and incorporated for various purposes such as the implementation of sensors or environmental variables, like wind and swell, inside the simulation. Furthermore, the package architecture that ROS uses enables a modular modeling of the different parts, mechanisms, and systems of the sailboat. In this way, changes of the various components, such as the sails, can be made, to test their performance under the same conditions. Results show that the study of the boat performance for different sail configurations and their control is possible through ROS-Gazebo.

On the basis of previous researchers' impact of image aesthetics design on user purchasing behavior, this article uses classic aesthetics, performance aesthetics, S-Q-R and other theories from the perspective of user emotional experience to classify products into search and experience types, and analyze its influence mechanism on user emotional experience and purchase decision in different forms. This article summarizes the questionnaire based on the related theories of APP aesthetic design and user emotional experience in human factors engineering, determine the independent variables (different types of aesthetic design: symmetrical simple, symmetrical complex, asymmetrical simple, asymmetrical complex) and dependent variables (user's emotional experience and purchase decision), and the questionnaire survey divides Taobao APP interface design into four types: symmetrical simple, symmetrical complex, asymmetrical simple, and asymmetrical complex, and discusses using repeated measures two-factor analysis of variance. Finally, it is concluded that the asymmetric design of search products can make users have greater desire to buy, and the asymmetric and complex design of experience products can make users have greater desire to buy. The research results of this paper are the perfection and supplement of APP emotional design and human factors engineering theory and methods. The application of research results is of great significance for guiding APP design, improving APP user experience and enhancing APP competitiveness.

Developing high-fidelity digital twins of head and torso simulators (HATS) provides us with reliable simulations that could replace tedious measurements and facilitate the rapid and efficient design of AR/VR products. In this paper, we aim to develop and validate a digital twin of the Brüel and Kjar high-frequency HATS Type 5128. The digital twin uses an accurate scan of the HATS and captures the behavior of the ear simulator (Type 4620), including the full average human ear canal geometry and a termination coupler emulating an average eardrum impedance response. As a natural first step, finite-element acoustic simulations in COMSOL are set up to validate the far-field head-related transfer function (HRTF) with measurements for three spatial directions in the horizontal plane. To increase the confidence in the validation results, a rough convergence study is conducted for the simulations, and measurements are compared against the manufacturer's reference measurements. Finally, we show how validation studies may be improved by investigating some of the commonly-used modeling assumptions. © 2022 Audio engineering Society. All rights reserved.
