The construction industry has changed rapidly with the development of digital technology in recent years. A new technology called Building Information modeling (BIM) has arisen as multidimensional models to create, analyze, and communicate information. This technology has the potential to revolutionize the design and construction processes of projects. To motivate the adoption of BIM, the study on influencing factors has received much attention from many scholars. In this paper, 33 influencing factors including advantages, obstacles, drivers, and critical success factors were gathered from previous studies, which were classified into six key aspects for the application of BIM in the construction industry under the TOE expanded framework (Technology, Organization, Environment, Economic, Legal, and human). These factors were ranked based on the occurrence frequency of factors synthesized from previous studies. The results show that culture of change, interoperability, standards, top management support, and cost of software are the most important factors influencing adoption of BIM. This contribution helps stakeholders focus on controlling the key factors and recommends solutions to encourage the use of BIM. © 2024, The Author(s), under exclusive license to Springer Nature Singapore Pte Ltd.

In line with the emerging Industry 5.0 paradigm's human-centricity characteristic, manual assembly has long been an indispensable element of small-batch and customized products. However, the complex assembly information brings a huge cognition burden for the worker, which restricts the development of the human-centric assembly. To take advantage of the valuable model-based definition (MBD) information in the intelligent manufacturing environment for cognition assistance, an MBD-enabled digital twin modeling method is studied. Firstly, the MBD information is divided into five layers to describe the information according to the assembly process. Based on the assembly layer information of the MBD model, an MBD-digital twin (MBD-DT) model framework is established to illustrate the connection between the MBD model and the digital twin assembly. The MBD-DT modeling problem is solved by an optimization method for assembly model mapping. Finally, the cognition needs in the manual assembly process are analyzed, and the cognition assistance method using the MBD-DT model is discussed. The research of this paper can be applied to digital manufacturing enterprises, extending MBD resources from the design end to the on-site assembly end, providing real-time assistance for manual assembly, and achieving sustainability in human-centric smart assembly, which meets the core value of Industry 5.0.

With the development of high technology, the digitization of works of art and cultural relics is no longer a problem. How to extract enough and accurate information from a large number of complex information for our use is a common problem in practice. With the continuous improvement of digital inkjet technology and color ink quality, many digital products have appeared in the market, such as digital oil painting, digital traditional Chinese painting, digital calligraphy, digital printmaking, digital paper cutting, digital embroidery and other digital art replicas. However, in addition to modeling, pattern is also an important part of art. Chinese traditional patterns have a long history and brilliant achievements. After solving the problem of production automation, leading enterprises in various industries began to seek detection automation and assembly automation based on machine vision. Machine vision technology has become one of the hot spots in the industry. With the rapid development of 3D technology, its application scope is becoming more and more daily, from cultural relic restoration, simulation manufacturing, digital sculpture to ceramic art production, etc. Machine vision should use image recognition technology instead of human eyes to measure and judge, which is more efficient, more accurate and more objective, and can be repeated endlessly, greatly improving the degree of automation of production. This paper focuses on the three-dimensional patterns of ceramic artworks, aiming at high-quality reproduction and design re-creation, deeply studies the collection and image splicing technology of three-dimensional patterns of ceramic artworks, and constructs an image reproduction system, which realizes the whole digital process from three-dimensional pattern shooting, preprocessing, image correction, two-dimensional transformation of three-dimensional images, image registration, image fusion to generation of complete two-dimensional patterns. © 2022 SPIE.

The Internet of Behaviors (IoB) puts human behavior at the core of engineering intelligent connected systems. IoB links the digital world to human behavior to integrate human driven design, development, and adaptation processes. This paper defines the novel IoB concept with a constructed model based on a collective effort interacting with software engineers, human-computer interaction scientists, social scientists, and cognitive science communities. The model for IoB is created based on an exploratory study that synthesizes state-of-the-art analysis and experts interviews. The architecture of a real industry 4.0 manufacturing infrastructure helps to explain the IoB model and its application. The conceptual model was used to successfully implement a socio-technical infrastructure for a crowd monitoring and queue management system for the Uffizi Galleries, Florence, Italy. The experiment, which started in the fall of 2016 and was operational in the fall of 2018, used a data-driven approach to feed the system with real-time sensory data. It also incorporated prediction models on visitors' mobility behavior. The system's main objective was to capture human behavior, model it, and build a mechanism that considers changes, adapts in real-time, and continuously learns from repetitive behaviors. In addition to the conceptual model and the real-life evaluation, this paper provides recommendations from experts and gives future directions for IoB to become a significant technological advancement in the coming years.

While large language models (LLMs) have shown remarkable potential in automating various tasks in digital chip design, the field of Photonic Integrated Circuits (PICs)-a promising solution to advanced chip designs-remains relatively unexplored in this context. The design of PICs is time-consuming and prone to errors due to the extensive and repetitive nature of code involved in photonic chip design. In this paper, we introduce PICBench, the first benchmarking and evaluation framework specifically designed to automate PIC design generation using LLMs, where the generated output takes the form of a netlist. Our benchmark consists of dozens of meticulously crafted PIC design problems, spanning from fundamental device designs to more complex circuit-level designs. It automatically evaluates both the syntax and functionality of generated PIC designs by comparing simulation outputs with expert-written solutions, leveraging an open-source simulator. We evaluate a range of existing LLMs, while also conducting comparative tests on various prompt engineering techniques to enhance LLM performance in automated PIC design. The results reveal the challenges and potential of LLMs in the PIC design domain, offering insights into the key areas that require further research and development to optimize automation in this field. On the basis of previous researchers' impact of image aesthetics design on user purchasing behavior, this article uses classic aesthetics, performance aesthetics, S-Q-R and other theories from the perspective of user emotional experience to classify products into search and experience types, and analyze its influence mechanism on user emotional experience and purchase decision in different forms. This article summarizes the questionnaire based on the related theories of APP aesthetic design and user emotional experience in human factors engineering, determine the independent variables (different types of aesthetic design: symmetrical simple, symmetrical complex, asymmetrical simple, asymmetrical complex) and dependent variables (user's emotional experience and purchase decision), and the questionnaire survey divides Taobao APP interface design into four types: symmetrical simple, symmetrical complex, asymmetrical simple, and asymmetrical complex, and discusses using repeated measures two-factor analysis of variance. Finally, it is concluded that the asymmetric design of search products can make users have greater desire to buy, and the asymmetric and complex design of experience products can make users have greater desire to buy. The research results of this paper are the perfection and supplement of APP emotional design and human factors engineering theory and methods. The application of research results is of great significance for guiding APP design, improving APP user experience and enhancing APP competitiveness.

Third-dimensional human anatomical models have been used to better understand the human body. However, one of their most important uses is the personalization of any type of treatment. 3D human models of bones from the lower extremities are crucial for visualization, treatment planning, and orthotic and prosthetic design. Nonetheless, this 3D models must be compatibles with any modeling software, like those working with the finite element method. Therefore, a methodology to generate 3D anatomical models compatible with CAD systems was proposed. A couple of sets of Computed Tomography (CT) images in DICOM (digital Imaging and Communications in Medicine) format was used. To reduce the computational cost, different optimization algorithms were implemented. A Gaussian low-pass filter was implemented for bone segmentation, and the thresholding method was applied. Morphological operations to eliminate sparse pixels, gaps and to generate smooth edges were performed. The Marching Cubes algorithm was used to generate a three-dimensional mesh. The 3D model scale was adjusted by the metadata in the DICOM files. The 3D model surfaces were smoothed by a Gaussian filter applied to the segmented images and an averaging filter used on the model’s vertices. To verify the dimensions of the reconstructed model, they were compared with those obtained from a model reconstructed in InVesalius 3.1. Approximately, it took 1.95 min to generate the exported 3D model in a CAD-compatible STL file. © 2024, The Author(s), under exclusive license to Springer Nature Switzerland AG.

This article is devoted to information processing, simulation, and mathematical modeling of vessel human operators' actions and signal and image processing during human computer interaction, and also further vessel computer control system learning. The report provides a brief overview of the results obtained in the course of processing data from experiments carried out on vessel computer control systems' simulators and real vessel computer control systems. Processing of the experimental information made it possible to obtain quantitative and qualitative assessments of the human operator's decisions. The report discusses the correspondence between the results of computer simulations of human operator actions and the results of experiments conducted on vessel computer control systems' simulators and real vessel computer control systems. A qualitative description of practical results and practical recommendations for vessel control system interface design to improve the reliability of the vessel operator's control actions are given. Further research directions are outlined. Research gaps are also discussed.

human nose detects every kind of odors and our brain responds to every kind of smell that we are inhaling, so in the same way artificial nose or the electronic nose is a device that detects the smell and can enable the scope of digital smell technology. So, this paper proposes to optimize the design of an electronic nose that will eventually bring modification to the various digital platforms like internet, computers, mobile, television and tablets. We focused on design optimization of electronic nose which is built on a multichannel gas sensor array. The proposed electronic nose will enable the transmission or reception of smell over the internet and other digital platforms. The device can detect the smells of vapors coming out of volatile organic compounds. The sensing system is 3D printed in the model of a human nose. The sensing system works with an accuracy of detection of 90.45%. The response time of the electronic nose is 60 to 90 seconds, sometimes it is lesser than 60 seconds and it varies from substance to substance.

The Space Station design Workshop (SSDW), a cornerstone initiative at the Institute of Space Systems, University of Stuttgart, has been instrumental in educating students and young professionals in space station design for over 25 years. In 2024, the workshop was conducted in cooperation with the Technical University of Munich for the first time, marking a significant collaborative milestone. Building on extensive experience, a refined methodology incorporating Connected engineering principles was implemented, centered around the integration of the SYNERA software tool. This enhancement aimed to improve design process efficiency, team collaboration, and adaptability to evolving requirements. The integration of SYNERA led to an improvement in design iteration speed and an increase in inter-team data sharing compared to previous workshops. This paper analyzes the methodological advancements, the refined Connected engineering workflow developed within the International Planetary Sunshade (IPSS) project framework, and practical experiences from SSDW 2024. It highlights the potential of these innovations to advance space systems design education and practice, aligning with the increasing industry demand for digital transformation and Model-Based Systems engineering (MBSE).
