As capability of digitizing information is advanced, application of virtual and augmented reality has been popular in various areas such as education, entertainment, training, communication, design, therapy, and more. In the literature, a considerable number of studies have used digitalization technologies for ergonomics, named virtual ergonomics in modern technologies of Industry 4.0, in design of process of workstations, manufacturing workplaces, and maintenance activities. In general, most of studies reported potentials of virtual ergonomics in terms of fidelity, usability, and cost. The objective of this study was to review empirical studies from different industry types in the literature to investigate potentials and limitations on the assessment of task performance in the application of virtual ergonomics. In this review, the difference from traditional ergonomics was compared from the perspective of user’s ergonomic factors rather than physical ergonomic issues with the design of virtual reality peripherals. Potentials of virtual ergonomics were identified from the perspectives of efficiency on communicating ergonomic factors, assessing musculoskeletal impacts, and measuring range of movements of the body while limitations were also recognized by the lack of validation in virtual design, longer task execution time from higher mental workload, and the fidelity of model for finding the velocities or accelerations of movement of the body in a virtual environment. © 2021, The Editor(s) (if applicable) and The Author(s), under exclusive license to Springer Nature Switzerland AG.

With the continuous development of today's society, the ability to respond to unexpected events and emergencies is crucial for ensuring public safety and protecting property. However, traditional emergency response methods have some limitations and challenges, such as on-site operational risks, insufficient human resources, and difficulties in real-time decision-making. The use of mechanical equipment to perform specific tasks in unknown environments and scenarios or to analyze and make decisions based on the on-site conditions has become a trend. On this premise, this paper proposes a digital twin platform based on Unity3D software. The system collects real-time information in the real environment and feeds it back to the virtual platform. It uses a four-wheel, dual-drive intelligent car as the motion carrier, which carries a Six-degree of freedom industrial robotic arm to work synchronously, and uses an intelligent camera to detect environmental information, to realize the three-dimensional perception interaction between virtual and reality, and it can achieve remote control of real rescue robots by manipulating the robotic arm and its carrier in twin scenarios to replicate the actions of industrial equipment in real scenarios. The experimental results indicate that the system exhibits good performance and flexibility in emergency response. Through remote control of industrial robotic arms and smart cars, as well as the use of digital twin models, the operators can respond to emergencies in a better way and make timely and accurate decisions, providing early warning as well as making search and rescue plans for emergency rescue to work.

With the advent of four-dimensional (4D) printing technology, manufactured components may adapt their form, size, or properties in response to external stimuli. This new 4D printing technology has opened several doors in the science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) disciplines. Fused deposition modeling (FDM) is one of the most common and cost-effective 3D printing procedures for making components out of shape-memory polymers. It is well known that programming and training are required for the 4D printing process. This work reports crucial programming methodologies that can be applied to FDM 4D printing. A detailed angle measurement scheme and the hot water actuation apparatus have been reported and discussed. This can be used to measure shape morphing in a folding or bending actuator for a variety of multifaceted applications. The angle measurement scheme presented allows for the accurate measurement of the degree of bending without causing any damage to the actuator and for real-time feedback regarding how much shape-morphing has taken place. In addition, the hot water actuation apparatus can provide high accuracy in controlling the bending angle with a simple setup. This apparatus provides a reliable and cost-effective solution to obtaining accurate bending angle measurements. Finally, when it comes to accurately measuring the shape morphing in a bending actuator, the combination of the various programming methodologies, angle measurement scheme, and hot water actuation apparatus offers a number of advantages. © 2023 Elsevier Ltd. Augmented reality (AR) has entered our lives, and it is likely to become the next generation of human-computer interaction technology. In order to bring a more immersive augmented reality experience, this paper introduces an augmented reality method that can integrate traditional media with real scenes based on ARKit. Through scene recognition, plane detection, 3D modeling and other technologies, traditional media is integrated into the real scenes to give users an immersive feeling. In addition, this paper designs a hierarchical augmented reality experience based on the processing capabilities of different devices and scene information, avoiding the impact of device differences and lack of scene information on the augmented reality experience. © 2021 IEEE.

We often convey our happiness via smiling or making a happy face. Simple, latent feelings like contentment and joy are brought to the surface in this way. In terms of social communication, this is the most difficult and potent task there is. One function of digital cameras is smile recognition, which prevents taking pictures of people unless they are smiling. There are two distinct stages to smile detection. After identifying a face in a video or picture, it watches for a grin. To be more precise, we may state that a motion detector takes a video or image and breaks it down into frames. It then examines the frameworks, such as the balanced level and flash, for the face area. The camera can tell whether someone is laughing or smiling because it looks for certain facial features—a jutted jaw, narrowed eyes, and an elevated cheekbone among others. The components of computer architecture and software advancements are advancing at a rapid pace, which is leading to a progressive increase in customer needs for electric products. A growing number of people are interested in human computer interaction systems that differ from the conventional user interface, which includes the keyboard and mouse. This article depicts the realtime implementation of deep learning algorithms in computer settings with limited resources. In this study, we provide HLSR, a new kind of deep learning model that combines the XGBoost and Convolutional Neural Network (CNN) algorithms for smile recognition. To get a clear picture of how well the suggested technique works, we cross-validate the HLSR model with the current CNN model.

The aberrant growth of white blood cells in the blood and myeloid tissue is the hallmark of leukaemia, which pathologists find it by observing at a blood smear viewed through a microscope. To identify and define leukaemia, pathologists look at the quality of the cells and their physical properties. Microscopic image analysis is crucial for the early leukaemia screening and accurate diagnosis, because current approaches depend on manual inspection, which is tedious and strongly reliant on province specialist's knowledge. Computerized leukaemia diagnosis reveals new possibilities for the eliminating human intrusion while also giving better accurate objective data. This paper provides a framework for automatic identification of acute lymphoblastic leukaemia from outermost blood smear pictures predicted on traditional digital Image Processing techniques and Machine Learning algorithms. This method of automated leukaemia identification was found to be more effective, fast and precise.

Knowing human body segment weights is crucial in several applications. Alongside, there is a persistent need to present these segments in terms of their actual weight and morphology. Thus, this paper aims to construct customized 3Dprinted models of some segments; the upper arm, forearm, hand, thigh, leg, and foot, then measure their weights using a digital scale. Sixty participants, both male and female, were recruited and assigned into experimental and control groups. The linear anthropometric measurements were taken for thirty individuals in the experimental group. The average of these measurements was used to adjust the ready 3D models of the stated segments. Then, the models were scaled and printed. Then, their weights were compared to the weight of every segment for each individual in the control group. The mean percent error of printed segments’ weight compared to the control group ranges between (8-9) %. Compared to the literature, the error range is acceptable. Hence, these printed models are a valid method to be used in several applications, including prosthetics manufacturing, car pedal design, garment design, etc.

Over the last few years, the human Factors and Ergonomics (HF/E) discipline has significantly benefited from new humancentric engineered digital solutions of the 4.0 industrial age. Technologies are creating new socio-technical interactions between human and machine that minimize the risk of design-induced human errors and have largely contributed to remarkable improvements in terms of process safety, productivity, quality, and workers' well-being. However, despite the Oil&Gas (O&G) sector is one of the most hazardous environments where human error can have severe consequences, Industry 4.0 aspects are still scarcely integrated with HF/E. This paper calls for a holistic understanding of the changing role and responsibilities of workers in the O&G industry and aims at investigating to what extent, what type of, and how academic publications in the O&G field integrate HF/E and Industry 4.0 in their research. Bibliometric analysis has been conducted to provide useful insights to researchers and practitioners and to assess the status quo. Our fmdings show that academic publications have mainly focused on simulation-based training to increase process safety whereas revealed the lack of specific studies on the application of cognitive solutions, such as Augmented Reality-enabled tools or Intelligent Fault Detection and Alarm Management solutions.
