This research is to address the perceived lack of warmth in current voice assistants by integrating them with lively and engaging virtual characters created using 3D modeling techniques. In this study, a virtual character (Vtuber) will be developed using 3D modeling techniques, and Python will be used as the main framework to integrate the control APIs of existing voice assistants in the market. This integration will transform the intangible voice assistant into a tangible virtual assistant, which can be installed on smart devices. The objective is to enhance the human-like qualities of smart devices and provide users with a more relatable and personable virtual assistant experience. © 2024 IEEE.

Machine learning (ML)-based surrogate models offer a promising alternative for Multibody Dynamics (MBD) Simulation of railway vehicle-track dynamics systems. A well-built ML model can accurately and quickly predict the dynamic responses to various track irregularities, significantly reducing computation time and unifying integration interfaces of different vehicle-track systems. However, training effective surrogate models is a complex process, influenced by the specific needs of the analysis. Different algorithms and training sets might be required for different surrogate models, making it essential to research the impact factors for building these models. This paper presents a comparative analysis of ML-based surrogate modeling approaches tailored for MBD Model within a railway digital twin platform. The primary focus is evaluating the performance of various ML-based surrogate modeling approaches, as well as the influence of neural networks, training parameters, and data sources. By leveraging extensive simulation and measurement data, we assess the ability of these surrogate models to predict key performance indicators under varying operational conditions. This analysis provides valuable insights for railway engineers in selecting appropriate surrogate modeling approaches, ultimately contributing to the advancement of predictive maintenance and optimization in railway operations. © 2024 IEEE.

In response to the characteristics of a large number of small infrastructure project review, wide professional involvement, and strong review timeliness, this paper proposes a design scheme for a digital review system for small infrastructure projects based on BIM (Building Information modeling) technology. It focuses on the five aspects of "human, material, machine, method, and environment" in small infrastructure projects to achieve intelligent three-dimensional review. Based on a rule engine, it realizes one click extraction of key indicators for review materials, vigorously promotes standardization and standardization of review, enhances the authority and effectiveness of review, effectively accumulates and forms digital assets for review, and realizes the efficient transformation from manual review to human-machine collaboration. © 2024 SPIE.

Driver visibility studies, particularly focusing on the impact of A-pillar designs and cutout modifications, are a critical challenge in the automotive industry. Utilizing Gaussian Process Regression (GPR) modeling, we comprehensively analyze how different A-pillar cutout sizes influence visibility in various traffic scenarios. Our research compares two vehicle types, SUVs and sedans, across a spectrum of real-world situation, including interactions with traffic lights, bicycles, and pedestrian crossings. The uniqueness of our approach lies in the application of digital human modeling data to construct surrogate models, which facilitates a nuanced understanding of the relationship between driver anthropometry, visibility, and cutout design. The results reveal a paradox in A-pillar design, where increasing the number of cutouts does not linearly correlate with enhanced visibility, thus challenging conventional design practices. Additionally, the study highlights the multimodal nature of visibility across different driver heights, suggesting the need for a tailored approach in automotive design. Looking forward, our research sets the foundation for future work that aims to optimize cutout designs using techniques like Bayesian Optimization, with a particular focus on improving visibility for drivers of smaller stature. This study contributes significantly to the evolution of automotive design, advocating for a shift towards more inclusive and ergonomic vehicles that cater to the diverse needs of drivers, thereby enhancing overall road safety. © 2024 by ASME.

VR system generally includes three aspects: one is the intervener, that is, people. VR development must be based on human data and perception psychology. The second is virtual environment, which involves hardware equipment, software system, and content production. The third is the human-computer interface, which is the data way to connect people and virtual environment. This paper takes the 30th anniversary virtual exhibition hall of Yunmen College of Guangdong Buddhist Academy as a case, and uses 3D modeling technology and 360 panoramic virtual reality technology to build a synthetic digital exhibition hall. Virtual exhibition halls break the limitations of physical exhibition halls in terms of time and space, greatly expand the extension space and communication efficiency of exhibition information, and meet the functional expectations of the public for activity communication. © 2023 IEEE.

The industry has seen an increase in the need for digitally connected completions operations, pushing for companies to sensor, aggregate, and stream data to remote operation centers (ROC). While sensoring critical parameters is vital to monitoring operations, the most important element is generally excluded from the ROC - the contextual perspective only provided by personnel. This innovative approach provides clarity to remote operations by integrating human context, engineering, and sensors, aligning operations with engineering and management. Prioritizing real-time data aggregation and the integration of sensor and contextual data must be a cornerstone of a remote monitoring solution. This approach outlines creating a digital twin by combining and aggregating the three elements into one digital context. The method outlined leverages a tri-directional sync from the operational controls, remote platform, and phone application that allows users to include operational states and human-sensored elements, such as return rate, viscosity, valve position, and rig-up geometry, that are used to align the pre-job modeling and actual operations once the job starts, providing a single source of truth for all users. Pre-job modeling and procedures provide a roadmap for the operations to follow, but when the human context is excluded once the operation has started, the model becomes invalid. At this point, the variability introduced due to the lack of context can result in undesirable outcomes. When simulated, pre-job modeling uses the best available information, but often, the operation has elements that need to be adjusted once on location. By including a multi-directional sync, onsite personnel can provide updated information, including rig-up geometry, fluid metrics, and mechanical deviations from models, that are used to update the simulation and keep the operations on track and aligned for the best outcome. human senses are the best sensors, as these are used to track very

As the world has been increasingly faced with the consequences of human-induced climate change, vehicle electrification has been seen as a critical process in moving away from a carbon-based economy. However, the impact of vehicle electrification on carbon dioxide emission will be limited if the electricity that is used to charge that vehicle comes from a coal-fired or natural gas power plant. Solar electric vehicles address the source of electricity generation by incorporating solar panels into the design of the vehicle itself. While a small number of commercial solar electric vehicles are starting to hit the market, much of the visible development work has taken place in solar racing competitions since the 1980s. As complex electromechanical systems, the prototyping of solar electric vehicles can be expensive in terms of time and money. In recent years, physics-based modeling or digital twins have been advanced as a way to nimbly explore the design space of complex engineered systems. One such platform for physics-based modeling is MATLAB Simscape, which has been used to model conventional, electric, and hybrid vehicles. In this work, we extend that modeling to consider a solar electric race vehicle inspired by the vehicle Appalachian State University entered into the 2022 American Solar Challenge.

This paper introduces a proactive ergonomics methodology to quantify vision obstruction by integrating computer-aided design (CAD), digital human modeling (DHM), and image processing. The "rough and rapid" approach presented in this study uses an image analysis macro to measure forward field of view (FoV) obstruction based on the snapshots collected from DHM software. The proof-of-concept design study presented in this research investigates the quantification of the obstruction caused by halo-type cockpit safety and protection equipment introduced into Formula 1 (F1) race cars in 2018. Halo is a curved bar that surrounds the driver's head over the cockpit opening and offers additional protection to drivers. However, the halo's introduction has raised obstruction-related concerns due to its vertical and horizontal bars (pillar-like elements) sitting in front of the cockpit. In this case study, a low-fidelity digital F1 race car model, including halo safety equipment, was constructed along with the manikins representing generic F1 drivers with different anthropometric characteristics. A low-fidelity DHM simulation setup, consisting of the F1 vehicle and simplified race track model, was used to collect forward FoV vision snapshots of drivers. The snapshots were then sent to an image processing software to quantify the area obscured by the halo. Overall, the results show how the methodology can supply designers with quantitative data to gain more insight into visibility concerns regarding obstruction caused by body frame and cockpit components early in preliminary design. This approach discussed in this study is particularly noteworthy during the preliminary design, where designers demand robust concept evaluation tools to evaluate concepts variants before building time-consuming and costly physical mockups.
