Standard joining techniques such as adhesive, sealer, and mastic dispensing play a vital role in automotive Body in White manufacturing processes. Traditionally, validation involves verifying dispensed bead placement and presence, relying on human inspectors who utilize camera and closed circuit TV (CCTV) systems for quality confirmation. Equipment validation involves assessing camera quantity and placement, typically determined post-installation through the "camera field of view" placement method. Unfortunately, this approach has led to purchasing excessive or sometimes unnecessary equipment, contributing to elevated launch costs. This publication introduces a digital Twin approach for predicting the quantity and field of view of passive vision cameras used in dispensed bead applications. The method employs simulation to validate the process before actual integration. Additionally, the placement of beads undergoes validation through Virtual Reality simulation, enhancing training for quality inspectors and thereby increasing the number of inspections achievable per shift. The use of digital Twin and Virtual Reality modeling also results in improved development time for quality inspection documentation, a task typically handled by Quality Engineers. The proposed procedure has demonstrated noticeable reductions in costs, inspection documentation development time, and an enhancement in quality validation procedures. Ongoing research aims to explore the impact of increased inspection frequency within manufacturing facilities, with a specific focus on the implications for reprocessing time. © 2024 by ASME.

Model Based Definition realizes the unified transmission of information between digital product design and manufacturing process, but it cannot provide support for the full life cycle management of digital Twin products. This paper proposed the digital Twin Based Definition (DTBD) technology, and the definition, the application principles, the composition and characteristics, the way of interaction, the system hierarchical relationships, the division of sub-models and the collaborative relationship between them, are described in detail. The main procedures of developing DTBD model are presented. The model is built on MBD, and the evaluation of processing mode and efficiency of each module of the model will be obtained in the simulation system, which will be used as the basis for optimal design. The product operation data collected by sensors is processed by multiple information fusion algorithm to form the data group which is the basis for updating the digital Twin attribute of the model to the actual operation state of the product. The operational status data of the models is shared with industrial Internet technology, and to acquire the long-life model operating conditions, the differences between model states are analyzed by data mining algorithm. Product fault characteristics obtained by multi-scale information extraction algorithm are fed back to the data list of the model for design optimization, and to avoid similar failures, fault data is shared. DTBD as an enabling technology improves MBD, and promotes the development of digital Twin and intelligent manufacturing processes which cover design, processing, optimization and life cycle management.

Pillars in modern vehicles provide structural integrity by surrounding the greenhouse (windshield, rear, and side windows) and joining the roof with the frame. The forward-most roof support posts, A-pillars, straddle the windshield and have an essential design impact that affects the aerodynamic performance, roof crush, and frontal impact performance. Although they protect the driver and passengers, A-pillars also create obstruction zones by limiting drivers' forward field of view (FOV). Therefore, the reduced forward vision caused by the obstruction zones leads to unforeseeable accidents or mishaps. We argue that providing a better pillar design that embodies a human-centered design approach could avoid such incidents. In this research, we propose an early design framework that integrates methods of generative design (GD) and digital human modeling (DHM) to demonstrate a proof-of-concept study that focuses on quantifying A-pillar obstruction in realistic traffic scenarios. This research also aims to illustrate how the framework functions through a case study, which compares concept pillar designs with cutout sections (see-through holes) to current pillar models (without see-through holes) in reducing the obstruction zones. The framework is used to assess whether the concept design approach improves the overall drivers' visibility of traffic objects that would otherwise be obscured behind current pillars.

Metro is one of the most important forms of public transportation in Chinese cities. With the continuous expansion and development of metro networks in China's major cities, ensuring the safety of passengers has become a key part of metro operation and management. However, there are some efficiency and human factors engineering deficiencies in the current metro security system. Some researchers have studied the efficiency of subway security systems and their influencing factors in subway or railroad stations. However, in actual subway stations, the spatial guidance in front of and behind the screening area is also one of the causes of congestion in the screening area. This study focuses on the deficiencies of spatial guidance in the subway, and the resulting congestion in the subway station, which leads to a reduction in the efficiency of the screening system. The implementation plan of this study is to explore the spatial guidance system of Guangzhou Metro, summarize the influencing factors of congestion, quantify and extract data for the influencing factors, and establish a model and data analysis. The interview method was used to invite volunteers to participate, and the information from the interviews was used for data statistics to quantify the influencing factors caused by the spatial guidance system, to establish an appropriate model for the influencing factors, and to determine the significant influencing factors of the spatial guidance on the congestion of people with respect to the data fed back from the model. The collected data and information are coded using the rooted theory research method, analyzed with the help of auxiliary software, and finally, three categories of first-level core influence factors of site layout design, guide signs, and human factors and corresponding second- and third-level subcategories are refined, and a system of influence factors on the efficiency of the process of the security system under the perspective of spatial guidanc

In the design of collaborative software in a traditional way, it is often overlooked how complex user interactions become in a social context. This article presents a systematic literature review, investigating the most recent work in simulation and agent-based modeling (ABM), with a focus on group interactions, to support collaborative software. This review explores how ABM can close this gap by simulating group dynamics and social interactions. We analyzed the reviewed studies to identify how ABM can be used to model user interactions within collaborative software environments, design socially intelligent software agents, and understand user psychology within social networks. Using research results from ABM simulations that model the psychological principles of users, or incorporating data from social networks, for example, software engineers can develop collaborative software that integrates seamlessly with human social behavior. This approach has the potential to lead to the development of more user-friendly, efficient and socially intelligent software systems. © 2024 IEEE.

In this paper, we developed a VR-based system for surgical training using parametric human body modeling. This system has two main functions: (1) Using a hierarchical leg model and inhomogeneous deformation methods based on the Mega-Fiers plugin, the system automatically estimates the proportional relationships between muscles, fat, and bones in a three-dimensional leg model based on parameters such as gender, height, weight, and body fat percentage to construct a personalized 3D leg model for surgical operations;(2) The system allows for interactive control of virtual surgical tools' postures and movements using VR, and the leg model can be cut open using mesh algorithms in Unity to perform virtual surgical incisions. Additionally, the system provides a high-fidelity VR surgical room environment and a parameterized user interface. We conducted a series of experiments to demonstrate the effectiveness of the parametric 3D human body modeling and the usability of the interactive incision by using VR equipment. In addition, our system can be further developed and applied to other medical fields beyond surgery, such as anatomical education and medical research.

This paper aims to design a remote-controlled Flexible Robotic Cell (FRC) equipped with an ABB 120 industrial robotic manipulator (IRM) as Cyber Physical System (CPS) for assembly and disassembly (A/D) of two workpieces (WP1, WP2) with 5 parts each, based on SCADA and Industry 4.0 concepts. CPS involves integrating various digital devices, connected in a local array network (LAN) and Internet for enhanced automation, connectivity, and intelligence, The digital devices are: PLC, 3D cameras, video processing unit (VPU), powerful, embedded computer, Wi Fi router, remote and local human Machine Interface (HMI), ethernet switch, servo drive and IoT, the last one being an edge device that allows remote connection via VPN. Synchronized timed Petri nets (STPN), for assembly and disassembly, are used for modeling and simulation. The design of CPS was subordinated to the concept of 'digital Twin', by integrating, and synchronizing task planning and the simulation results of the STPN models, with real-time control in a supervisory control and data acquisition (SCADA) system connected remotely. © 2024 IEEE.

Industry 5.0 emphasizes human-centric approaches in technological advancement, particularly crucial in healthcare applications such as prosthetics development. While individual technologies like additive manufacturing, machine learning, digital twins, and tissue engineering have shown promise in prosthetics innovation, their integration remains a significant challenge. This paper presents a novel multidisciplinary framework developed through the National Centre for High-Performance Computing (CN-HPC) project, which addresses the gap between individual technological capabilities and their coordinated application in personalized prosthetics development. The framework, implemented through collaboration between six research groups from two universities, employs the House of Quality methodology to align technological integration with patient needs. Our approach encompasses a comprehensive seven-step process, from initial patient requirements definition through virtual modeling, production process optimization, virtual sensing, machine learning enhancement, digital twin simulation, to advanced tissue engineering. A data model facilitates seamless information exchange between different technological domains and research groups. This research contributes to the field by providing a scalable, human-centered framework for technology integration in medical device development, potentially extending beyond prosthetics to other healthcare applications. The proposed framework represents a significant step toward realizing the full potential of Industry 5.0 in healthcare manufacturing through the systematic integration of advanced technologies for delivering personalized prosthetic solutions. © 2024 The Authors. The rapid evolution of artificial intelligence, big data, and generative AI models has ushered in significant transformations across various sectors, including education. digital human Technique, an innovative technology grounded in advanced computer science and artificial intelligence, is reshaping educational paradigms by enabling virtual humans to simulate human behavior, express emotions, and interact with users. This paper explores the application of digital human Technique in education reform, focusing on creating immersive, intelligent classroom experiences that foster meaningful interactions between teachers and students. We define digital human Technique and delve into its key technical components such as character modeling and rendering, natural language processing, computer vision, and augmented reality technologies. Our methodology involves analyzing the role of educational digital humans created through these technologies, assessing their impact on educational processes, and examining various application scenarios in educational reform. Results indicate that digital human Technique significantly enhances the learning experience by enabling personalized teaching, increasing engagement, and fostering emotional connections. Educational digital humans serve as virtual teachers, interactive learning aids, and facilitators of emotional interaction, effectively addressing the challenges of traditional educational methods.
