The Internet of Behaviors (IoB) puts human behavior at the core of engineering intelligent connected systems. IoB links the digital world to human behavior to integrate human driven design, development, and adaptation processes. This paper defines the novel IoB concept with a constructed model based on a collective effort interacting with software engineers, human-computer interaction scientists, social scientists, and cognitive science communities. The model for IoB is created based on an exploratory study that synthesizes state-of-the-art analysis and experts interviews. The architecture of a real industry 4.0 manufacturing infrastructure helps to explain the IoB model and its application. The conceptual model was used to successfully implement a socio-technical infrastructure for a crowd monitoring and queue management system for the Uffizi Galleries, Florence, Italy. The experiment, which started in the fall of 2016 and was operational in the fall of 2018, used a data-driven approach to feed the system with real-time sensory data. It also incorporated prediction models on visitors' mobility behavior. The system's main objective was to capture human behavior, model it, and build a mechanism that considers changes, adapts in real-time, and continuously learns from repetitive behaviors. In addition to the conceptual model and the real-life evaluation, this paper provides recommendations from experts and gives future directions for IoB to become a significant technological advancement in the coming years.

DAB converters under triple phase shift (TPS) modulation can broaden the zero voltage switching (ZVS) range to improve efficiency and noise robustness. Conventionally, the piecewise approach and harmonic approach are two commonly used approaches to build analytical models for ZVS conditions under this modulation strategy. However, both two approaches fail to achieve good modeling accuracy as well as low computational cost simultaneously due to heavy human dependence. To solve this problem, this digest proposes a data-driven modeling approach for ZVS analysis (DM-ZVS) for non-resonant DAB converters under the TPS modulation strategy. The data-driven modeling process is conducted with the random forest algorithm automatically using ZVS performance data from simulation tools, greatly mitigating human dependence to improve accuracy and computational efficiency. With the trained data-driven classification model of ZVS, the optimal TPS modulation parameters can be found to ensure the full ZVS range. A design case is given, and 1 kW hardware experiments comprehensively validate the feasibility of the proposed DM-ZVS.

Third-dimensional human anatomical models have been used to better understand the human body. However, one of their most important uses is the personalization of any type of treatment. 3D human models of bones from the lower extremities are crucial for visualization, treatment planning, and orthotic and prosthetic design. Nonetheless, this 3D models must be compatibles with any modeling software, like those working with the finite element method. Therefore, a methodology to generate 3D anatomical models compatible with CAD systems was proposed. A couple of sets of Computed Tomography (CT) images in DICOM (digital Imaging and Communications in Medicine) format was used. To reduce the computational cost, different optimization algorithms were implemented. A Gaussian low-pass filter was implemented for bone segmentation, and the thresholding method was applied. Morphological operations to eliminate sparse pixels, gaps and to generate smooth edges were performed. The Marching Cubes algorithm was used to generate a three-dimensional mesh. The 3D model scale was adjusted by the metadata in the DICOM files. The 3D model surfaces were smoothed by a Gaussian filter applied to the segmented images and an averaging filter used on the model’s vertices. To verify the dimensions of the reconstructed model, they were compared with those obtained from a model reconstructed in InVesalius 3.1. Approximately, it took 1.95 min to generate the exported 3D model in a CAD-compatible STL file. © 2024, The Author(s), under exclusive license to Springer Nature Switzerland AG.

On the basis of previous researchers' impact of image aesthetics design on user purchasing behavior, this article uses classic aesthetics, performance aesthetics, S-Q-R and other theories from the perspective of user emotional experience to classify products into search and experience types, and analyze its influence mechanism on user emotional experience and purchase decision in different forms. This article summarizes the questionnaire based on the related theories of APP aesthetic design and user emotional experience in human factors engineering, determine the independent variables (different types of aesthetic design: symmetrical simple, symmetrical complex, asymmetrical simple, asymmetrical complex) and dependent variables (user's emotional experience and purchase decision), and the questionnaire survey divides Taobao APP interface design into four types: symmetrical simple, symmetrical complex, asymmetrical simple, and asymmetrical complex, and discusses using repeated measures two-factor analysis of variance. Finally, it is concluded that the asymmetric design of search products can make users have greater desire to buy, and the asymmetric and complex design of experience products can make users have greater desire to buy. The research results of this paper are the perfection and supplement of APP emotional design and human factors engineering theory and methods. The application of research results is of great significance for guiding APP design, improving APP user experience and enhancing APP competitiveness.

With the increasing demand for cross-disciplinary technical and professional skill sets in the engineering workforce, Mechatronics and Robotics engineering (MRE) is quickly emerging as its own engineering discipline. However, developing and implementing MRE courses and curricula is challenging for many potential MRE educators because there are no standardized course structures, curricula, hardware and software platforms, or course materials. To address these challenges, a multi-institutional, multidisciplinary team conducted several workshops starting in 2018 to provide support for curriculum development in MRE and to create a vibrant community of college instructors interested in MRE. Ranging from a half-day to two days, the workshops provided guidance and perspectives from leaders in MRE education. Based on participant feedback from these workshops and our goal for greater impact, we planned and delivered a more intensive three-day, virtual, yet hands-on workshop in the Spring of 2022. The objectives of the workshop were to: 1) prepare current and future MRE educators to create and teach courses, 2) familiarize MRE educators with advances in undergraduate MRE education, 3) help unify and standardize MRE curricula and courses, 4) pave the way toward accreditation for MRE degree programs, 5) generate enthusiasm and a sense of community among MRE educators, and 6) promote diversity and inclusion within the MRE community. Notably, this workshop differed from previous ones by embedding a significant hands-on experiential learning component, which provided sample laboratory assignments and projects that could form the foundations of introductory and advanced courses in MRE. Remote assistance was provided by workshop leaders and student assistants. Participants actively engaged in many activities, including doing "homework" every evening. This article is devoted to information processing, simulation, and mathematical modeling of vessel human operators' actions and signal and image processing during human computer interaction, and also further vessel computer control system learning. The report provides a brief overview of the results obtained in the course of processing data from experiments carried out on vessel computer control systems' simulators and real vessel computer control systems. Processing of the experimental information made it possible to obtain quantitative and qualitative assessments of the human operator's decisions. The report discusses the correspondence between the results of computer simulations of human operator actions and the results of experiments conducted on vessel computer control systems' simulators and real vessel computer control systems. A qualitative description of practical results and practical recommendations for vessel control system interface design to improve the reliability of the vessel operator's control actions are given. Further research directions are outlined. Research gaps are also discussed.

human nose detects every kind of odors and our brain responds to every kind of smell that we are inhaling, so in the same way artificial nose or the electronic nose is a device that detects the smell and can enable the scope of digital smell technology. So, this paper proposes to optimize the design of an electronic nose that will eventually bring modification to the various digital platforms like internet, computers, mobile, television and tablets. We focused on design optimization of electronic nose which is built on a multichannel gas sensor array. The proposed electronic nose will enable the transmission or reception of smell over the internet and other digital platforms. The device can detect the smells of vapors coming out of volatile organic compounds. The sensing system is 3D printed in the model of a human nose. The sensing system works with an accuracy of detection of 90.45%. The response time of the electronic nose is 60 to 90 seconds, sometimes it is lesser than 60 seconds and it varies from substance to substance.

The Space Station design Workshop (SSDW), a cornerstone initiative at the Institute of Space Systems, University of Stuttgart, has been instrumental in educating students and young professionals in space station design for over 25 years. In 2024, the workshop was conducted in cooperation with the Technical University of Munich for the first time, marking a significant collaborative milestone. Building on extensive experience, a refined methodology incorporating Connected engineering principles was implemented, centered around the integration of the SYNERA software tool. This enhancement aimed to improve design process efficiency, team collaboration, and adaptability to evolving requirements. The integration of SYNERA led to an improvement in design iteration speed and an increase in inter-team data sharing compared to previous workshops. This paper analyzes the methodological advancements, the refined Connected engineering workflow developed within the International Planetary Sunshade (IPSS) project framework, and practical experiences from SSDW 2024. It highlights the potential of these innovations to advance space systems design education and practice, aligning with the increasing industry demand for digital transformation and Model-Based Systems engineering (MBSE).

Space Teams Academy (STA) is a new, innovative, and virtual STEM program that teaches students about space exploration, teamwork, and engineering design principles. Recent simulation technology and advances in virtual reality (VR) make it possible to immerse and engage students in the design of advanced space exploration missions. Space Teams Academy is built upon the Space Teams platform. This sophisticated toolkit serves as a comprehensive mission design and simulation platform, providing an accurate representation of the space environment, thereby enabling users to design end-to-end virtual interplanetary missions. The Space Teams platform has been utilized for diverse space industry projects, ranging from NASA design competitions to commercial orbital servicing, and the evaluation of astronaut training scenarios. The STA program provides an unprecedented opportunity for students, from elementary through high school, to delve into an immersive and highly realistic virtual space environment. It inspires creativity, while requiring teamwork and critical thinking to solve complex problems related to the design of interplanetary vehicles, habitats on distant planets, and strategies to manage vital resources for human survival on these new worlds. The STA program is strongly aligned with the Next Generation Science Standards (NGSS) and covers a wide range of NASA's STEM Educational Objectives. Through this educational space adventure, STA students receive valuable insights from industry professionals such as space engineers, scientists and astronauts. Topics include planetary science, spacecraft design and assembly, orbital mechanics, landing on another world, and constructing extraterrestrial habitats with the ultimate goal of human sustainability.
