Primary challenge in a digitally controlled three-level buck converter (3LBC) is to identify suitable modeling, analysis, and design techniques, keeping in mind simplicity and accuracy, in presence of sampling delay and additional flying capacitor dynamics. Using a discrete-time (DT) framework, this paper develops a generic full-order large-signal model, which is accurate and takes into account the structural change of the statespace model during the flying capacitor reconfiguration. However, owing to the mathematical complexity of full-order model, this paper also develops a generic and simple reduced-order largesignal DT model, which is as accurate as the full-order model. Accuracy of the reduced-order model is compared with the fullorder model, both in large-signal and small-signal scenarios in SIMPLIS environment. A mixed-signal peak current-mode control with active balancing of flying capacitor voltage is proposed. Using the small-signal DT model, analytical stability criteria are developed for inductor current dynamics, flying capacitor voltage dynamics and closed-loop converter dynamics. Analytical stability criteria are verified using SIMPLIS simulation and experimental results through a 12 V to 1 V, 500 kHz, 3LBC hardware prototype. The proposed modeling framework will be helpful for stability analysis and direct digital control design.

The improvements about the quality of life and human health have been considered important in the development of national and enterprise policies. Participation in a regular exercise program can effectively improve health status and prevent disease. The research of health status monitor and prediction during exercise is benefit to obtain the good exercise affects and avoid some exercise accidents in advance. With the development of computer and AI technologies, it becomes possible to monitor and predict some exercise accidents in advance by computer simulation modeling. In this paper, an intelligence exercise health simulation model based on dynamic thermal regulation is presented, which comprises a dynamic metabolic rate model driven by the change of heart rate to solve the problem that metabolism is set as a constant in the traditional simulation method and can more truly reflect the impact of exercise intensity, and an improved thermal regulation model of human body empowered by dynamic metabolism that is able to simulate physiological phenomena of human body in exercise more accurate. During the numerical simulation processing, some important physiological indicators are calculated to reflect the thermal physiological regulation dynamic change in the exercise. The analysis and monitoring of simulated physiological indicators can help people get healthy exercise and prevent accidents. We design the health prediction module to realize the intelligently prediction of health symptoms in exercise. The effectiveness of the proposed simulation model is verified by experiments. © 2022 IEEE.

In the interaction process with complex environment, compared with rigid structure robot, soft crawling robot has the advantages of high degree of freedom, strong adaptability to complex environment, and high human-computer interaction security. Therefore, it is necessary to conduct in-depth research on intelligent soft crawling robot oriented to environment interaction. This paper designs and manufactures an intelligent soft crawling robot system for environmental interaction. The main research contents include: 1) design and manufacture of intelligent soft crawling robot;2) mathematical modeling and fluid-structure coupling simulation of soft crawling robot;3) design and research of the interaction module between the soft crawling robot and the environments;4) build a software crawling robot drive control platform for environmental interaction experiments. In this paper, the body of soft crawling robot is designed to simulate the motion of earthworm. The combination of ontology, flexible bending sensor, infrared digital obstacle avoidance sensor and ORB-SLAM algorithm framework enables the soft crawling robot to intelligently pass through maze channels, complete the environment mapping function in a closed environment, obtain accurate map information, and complete the interaction with the environment. © 2023, The Author(s), under exclusive license to Springer Nature Singapore Pte Ltd.

Recent work extending planning algorithms that reason about action and change has been successful at supporting game design, player modeling, and story generation. Incorporating agent preferences over actions and propositions into a planning process allows for a more accurate prediction of what a human might do when solving a problem like playing through a game level. This paper presents the preference-based planning heuristic RPGPREF which uses relaxed plan graphs (RPGs) and preference sets to guide a planner toward a preference-conforming path to its goal. A human subjects evaluation confirms that RPGPREF successfully guides the planning process toward solution plans that recognizably match and differentiate player playstyles. Historically, researchers and practitioners have often failed to consider all the areas, factors, and implications of a process within an integrated manufacturing model. Thus, the aim of this research was to propose a holistic approach to manufacturing processes to assess their status and performance. Moreover, using the conceptual model, manufacturing systems can be modelled, considering all areas, flows, and factors in the respective areas of production, maintenance, and quality. As a result, the model serves as the basis for the integral management and control of manufacturing systems in digital twin models for the regulation of process stability and quality with maintenance strategies. Thus, a system dynamics simulation model based on the conceptual model is developed for a metallurgical process. The results show how the monitoring of all flows together with the optimal strategies in the quality and maintenance areas enable companies to increase their profitability and customer service level. In conclusion, the conceptual approach and the applied simulation case study allow better decision making, ensuring continuous optimization along the manufacturing asset lifecycle, and providing a unique selling proposition for equipment producers and service engineering suppliers as well as industrial companies.

Recent studies in systems engineering indicate that the design, development, and management of systems will continue to increase in complexity. The foreseen growth is expected as future capabilities require understanding the system and its operating environment, adapting to rapid-changing scenarios, integrating more independent hardware and software elements, and coordinating with multiple stakeholders across the system's lifecycle, among others. To develop the next generation of systems, alignment between industry needs and curricula from higher-education institutions should exist. Therefore, this research contributes to the human capital development of systems engineering in the United States by exploring current job opportunities and their relationship to existing academic offerings in Hispanic-Serving Institutions. The study analyzes job openings from INCOSE's CAB Members to capture current needs in terms of role description lifecycle experience, tools, and methodologies needed in the job market, and it explores the relationship of systems engineering methodologies covered in Hispanic-Serving Institutions. The outcome of this research provides a direction to support the development, adoption, and update of higher-education systems engineering curriculum that aligns with current industry needs. © American Society for engineering Education, 2022.

modeling from the perspectives of software engineering and systems engineering have co-evolved over the last two decades as orthogonal approaches. Given the central role of software in modern cyber-physical systems and the increasing adoption of digital engineering practices in complex systems design, there is now significant opportunity for collaborative design among system users, software developers, and systems engineers. Model-based systems engineering (MBSE) and systems modeling languages can support seamless cross-domain connectivity for design, simulation, and analysis of emerging technologies such as Augmented Reality (AR). This paper presents a co-design process for extending the capability of an existing AR application referred to as a No-Code AR Systems (NCARS) framework. NCARS enables content developed by multi-domain authors to be deployed on AR devices through a software layer that bridges the content to the game engine that drives the AR system. Utilizing a software dependency diagram of the AR Annotation function, an existing MBSE model of the AR system is extended to include the structure and behavior of relevant software components. This allows a modular design of the system to address needs in integrating new requirements into the existing application. New user requirements for tracking items in motion in the user’s physical environment with virtual annotations in the augmented space are collaboratively designed and visualized through use case, block definition, internal block, and sequence diagrams. They capture the required structure and behavior of the proposed to-be system.

The purpose of this article is to present the advances in the development of the navigation systems of an autonomous sailboat using the Gazebo simulation environment, which is based on the Robot Operating System (ROS). This type of vessel is known as a robotic sailboat and their main characteristic is that they have the capacity to perform planning and navigation tasks in an automatic manner without the need for human input. In essence, a robotic sailboat uses digital control systems to perform the same tasks that adjust the course of a traditional vessel, such as sail control and rudder actuation. The advantage of using a simulation environment such as Gazebo for this purpose is that its open-source nature allows code from different developers to be compiled and incorporated for various purposes such as the implementation of sensors or environmental variables, like wind and swell, inside the simulation. Furthermore, the package architecture that ROS uses enables a modular modeling of the different parts, mechanisms, and systems of the sailboat. In this way, changes of the various components, such as the sails, can be made, to test their performance under the same conditions. Results show that the study of the boat performance for different sail configurations and their control is possible through ROS-Gazebo.

Developing high-fidelity digital twins of head and torso simulators (HATS) provides us with reliable simulations that could replace tedious measurements and facilitate the rapid and efficient design of AR/VR products. In this paper, we aim to develop and validate a digital twin of the Brüel and Kjar high-frequency HATS Type 5128. The digital twin uses an accurate scan of the HATS and captures the behavior of the ear simulator (Type 4620), including the full average human ear canal geometry and a termination coupler emulating an average eardrum impedance response. As a natural first step, finite-element acoustic simulations in COMSOL are set up to validate the far-field head-related transfer function (HRTF) with measurements for three spatial directions in the horizontal plane. To increase the confidence in the validation results, a rough convergence study is conducted for the simulations, and measurements are compared against the manufacturer's reference measurements. Finally, we show how validation studies may be improved by investigating some of the commonly-used modeling assumptions. © 2022 Audio engineering Society. All rights reserved.

In the methods of traditional education, students have had to learn complex concepts within the subjects of earth-science and engineering beginning with paper-based topographic maps, a pencil and a ruler. Elaborative observations, such as understanding of the landscape elevations using a contour map, had to be performed by reading accurate contour intervals for heights on a given map. Such paper-based concepts delivered by instructors are perplexing and hard for students to grasp, despite that they play a fundamental role towards earth-science and engineering education. However, using advanced technology and enhanced visualization techniques, instructors can deliver such complicated concepts in a more step-by-step interactive fashion, which is more straight forward and easier to understand by the students. Our team is working on changing this traditional norm of education into a more visual-based experiential learning process. By using depth sensors and a physical sandbox structure, we have developed a mechanism to capture self-created landscapes in a sandbox environment and recreate respective digital Terrain Model (DTM). The Augmented Reality (AR) Sandbox by UC Davis is a 3D visualization application where individuals can simply mould the sand into mountains and valleys, and a real-time topographic map is projected onto the sand to bring the landscape to life. However, this technology has its own shortcomings in terms of requiring physical access to the AR Sandbox itself, and furthermore absence of performing complex geological, hydrological, and geotechnical applications on top of existing software. We are extending this immersive technology by developing a virtual sandbox (called XR Sandbox) linked with the AR Sandbox. The extended process extracts a 3D point cloud of the self-designed terrain (landscape) in the AR Sandbox and converts this point cloud into a colour-mapped point cloud based on spectral elevation.
