Immersive technologies such as Virtual Reality (VR) and Augmented Reality (AR) have become the worldwide huge technological innovations impacting on human life significantly. While the VR is an enclosed environment separated completely from the real world, AR allows users to merge the digital and physical worlds and enable the interaction between them. The wide usage of AR has led researchers to investigate its potential capability in several areas including STEM-related fields. Previous research shows that an AR assisted courses tend to enhance students' learning, spatial cognition, increase the students' motivation and engagement in learning process. In this study, the researchers have developed an AR application, named ARCADE to assist students with spatial cognition and remote course engagement independently. The ARCADE tool enables students to not only visualize the isometric product from its orthogonal views, but it also provides short tutorial clips how a specific feature was developed and what tools were' used. The students can perform basic modifications on the 3D part in the ARCADE such as section views, details views, scale, rotate and explode the assembly views. Although this project is a work in progress, the preliminary pretest and posttest results show there is a significant improvement in students' spatial cognition when the proposed tool is used to assist the course. © American Society for engineering Education, 2021

In the operation of nuclear power plant and especially when the digital human-machine interactive system is adopted, the cognitive decision and acts of operator play more and more important role in determine the plant's safe operation. In order to analysis the risk mechanism of human error and control the risk transmission, this study proposes a framework to conceptually model the performance shaping factor (PSF) interaction that involve the interactions of organizational, operator and technical system factors. Using the method of engineering psychology, the operator workload is adopted to be the central risk indicator and multiple levels of resource channel are considered in a quantitative manner. To reflect the dependency between PSFs, the system dynamics based modeling approach is adopted to identify the interactions between PSFs and the overall risk boundary. It helps to establish a dynamic model for human reliability assessment and human-machine interface design. Although this paper is focused on the method application on nuclear field, it has the potential to be extended to other industrial sectors.

This paper carries out a comparison of three digital human Modelling (DHM) software. They are compared to each other in the field of ergonomics with a larger focus on their ergonomic risk assessment capabilities. They were selected from a pool of ergonomic software. The selection was restricted to those programs which gave enough information to overview features and capabilities without purchasing the given software. The software included here are namely: Jack, Santos and ViveLab. Jack is a software by Siemens, Santos belongs to Santoshuman Inc. and ViveLab is newly developed Hungarian software by ViveLab Ergo Ltd. These software companies provide free material for their software overview and online tutorials free of charge to make the acquiring process easier for their customers.

The purpose of this article is to present the advances in the development of the navigation systems of an autonomous sailboat using the Gazebo simulation environment, which is based in ROS. This type of vessel is known as a robotic sailboat and their main characteristic is that they have the capacity to perform planning and movement tasks in an automatic manner without the need for human input. In essence, a robotic sailboat uses digital control systems to perform the same tasks that adjust the course of a traditional vessel, such as sail control and rudder actuation. The advantage of using a simulation environment such as Gazebo for this purpose is that its open-source nature allows code from different developers to be compiled and incorporated for various purposes such as the implementation of sensors or environmental variables, like wind and swell, inside the simulation. Furthermore, the package architecture that ROS uses enables a modular modeling of the different parts, mechanisms, and systems of the sailboat. In this way, changes of the various components, such as the sails, can be made, to test their performance under the same conditions. Results show that the study of different sail configurations and their control using a PID controller is possible through Gazebo.

As data processing advances, decentralized media has been widely recognized for its ability to store large amounts of data. By comparing a revisited content to a dispersed repository, a cloud provider may verify the document's integrity without having to retrieve it. A reconsidered examining strategy is offered to lead the customer to reconsider the significant assessing task to third sector inspector, taking into consideration the important computing cost brought up by the checking process (TPA). TPA may be deterred by the primary revisited evaluating strategy, but the second plan gives the harmful organization the right of inspection over the readdressed data of users, which poses a significant risk to patient privacy. human Emphasis for reconsidered inspection is presented in this work, which emphasizes that the service user can be overwhelmed by her own data. Based on user-centered design, our suggested methodology not only prevents patient's data from leaking to TPA without depending on cryptographic algorithms, but can also avoid the use of additional free unpredictable supply that is impossible to fulfill on a daily basis. Also, we start to make our approach work with continuous changes. Our recommended scheme is both verifiably safe and essentially productive, as shown by the privacy analysis and test evaluations. © 2021 Institute of Physics Publishing. All rights reserved.

The secondary circuit design of substation adopts CAD design and generates DWG file. The engineering information can only be read by human. The machine can not directly obtain the circuit information, which does not meet the needs of the development of smart substation. In order to solve this problem, this paper proposes a set of digital design scheme for the secondary circuit of substation to solve the digital problem of design content expression. Based on the analysis of the digital design requirements of the secondary circuit, the physical and connection properties of the secondary equipment concerned in the design are obtained. The modeling language, modeling scope and modeling object of secondary circuit are defined. Based on the results of digital design, the control scheme of digital design documents is proposed to ensure the consistency between design documents and practical application of the project. © 2020 IEEE.

human Mesenchymal Stromal Cells (hMSC) have shown promising pre-clinical results by eliciting immunomodulatory effects to alleviate inflammation. In order to further study these effects, consistent and automated expansion platforms are required. Recent theoretical innovations have shown that model-based automated controls can more effectively regulate key nutrient concentrations. However, this previous work did not account for time-varying cell growth and death which resulted in inconsistent modeling and controller performance. To mitigate these effects, we propose a new model with time-varying parameters to track viable, proliferating, and dead cells and their respective growth rates with algorithms to estimate these parameters as functions of our limited measured states. We then propose an updated control architecture (referred to as smooth-controller) to leverage the additional parameters for improved estimation and control. The control objective is to regulate glucose and lactate to fixed setpoints while minimizing total media usage and large flowrate disturbances. Finally, we demonstrate the new control architecture in hMSC expansion with improved lactate setpoint MSE (58% reduction), improved observer MSE (36% for glucose and 20% for lactate), and reduced process disturbance (1 to 0 lactate spikes). Although the smooth-controller 7did not improve cell yield (4.91 × 10 7 compared to 5.08 × 10 7 ), it did reduce media usage to match the reduced growth rate thereby increasing cell yield per mL of fed media (6.3 × 10 4 to 8.6 × 10 4 ).

The advancing digital engineering landscape generates a need for modern human space exploration logistics planning tools. The goal of the SpaceNet Cloud project is to build a tool to satisfy this need through a dynamic web-based application based on the existing SpaceNet space logistics tool. SpaceNet Cloud condenses the process of organizing, constructing, and analyzing a mission scenario into a user-friendly web-based application. A simplistic interface, coupled with powerful backend capabilities allows SpaceNet Cloud to harness the accessibility of cloud-based computing, creating a modern take on mission logistics. The effectiveness of a user’s mission is clearly defined using an incremental mission outline process, and a clear visualization of demand analysis upon completion. The dynamic nature of the application also allows for rapid prototyping of missions based on final analysis results, and the potential for collaborative design opens opportunities for public and private sectors alike. © 2021, American Institute of Aeronautics and Astronautics Inc, AIAA.
