During 2016-19, the UK engineering and Physical Sciences Research Council (EPSRC) funded the “Connect Everything: Industrial Systems in the digital Age” programme (£ 1m) and adopted the German-initiated term “Industry 4.0” for the coming a priori “industrial revolution”. As part of this programme, University of Glasgow hosted the EPSRC’s first conference on this topic - “Looking Beyond Industry 4.0”. The success of this programme led to another round of £ 1m funding for “Connected Everything II: Accelerating digital Manufacturing Research Collaboration and Innovation” (2019-22), so as “to make the most of this fourth industrial revolution”. The first three Industrial Revolutions took place a posteriori, and mostly, were concerned with assisting and liberating humans from physical labour. Today, should the a priori Industry 4.0 differ from the previous industrial revolutions? If so, would the difference be in a focus on assisting and liberating humans from mental labour for the first time? The recent World Economic Forum highlighted four main design principles of this revolution: (1) Interoperability, (2) Information transparency, (3) Cognitive and physical assistance (4) Decentralised decisions and actions. Coinciding with this wave of revolution is the third wave of artificial intelligence (AI), which is currently in its earnest resurgence. It is now possible to develop computational AI technology to surpass a human designer in innovation and creativity, just like AlphaGo Zero in London to have surpassed AlphaGo and humans in Go playing. The progress of science and technology now heavily relies on simulation-based ‘third paradigm of science’ in the form of ‘computer-aided design’ (CAD). AI can transform CAD simulations to predictive simulations for ‘computer-automated design’ (CAutoD), which becomes possible through AI with the increased computing power and data. This paper presents a semi-automatic methodology to create abstract driver models to be used as formal reference when developing the firmware for embedded device drivers. Our methodology extracts the behavior of driver software automatically as an abstract finite state machine. This replaces manually crafting these models from informal specifications, which is error-prone, laborious, and does not account for undocumented behavior. Our approach specifically targets untrusted driver software that is only available as binary code, for example as third-party IP, and for which the source code is unknown. Our extracted model is formally sound with respect to the implementation, while still being understandable by a human developer. Our experiments for industry-size driver software demonstrate that human-readable, sound, abstract driver models can be extracted from binary code in affordable run times and with small manual effort.

Due to the development of the times and the progress of society, many traditional cultures are gradually disappearing, and the protection of intangible cultural heritage has become the focus of social attention. With the continuous innovation of science and technology, computer somatic games are also constantly developing. Due to the mode of human-computer interaction, it is suitable for all ages and is loved by the majority of players. This paper takes Lu-style Xinyi Quan as the research object, which is popular among Shanghai, and explores the artistic style, modeling design and three-dimensional model creation of character design based on the digital protection of intangible cultural heritage. Players can watch the action demonstration teaching of characters and imitate learning, while feeling the charm of the Quan, stretch their limbs and experience the fun of fitness and Chinese traditional martial arts indoors, thus promoting the digital protection of intangible cultural heritage. © Published under licence by IOP Publishing Ltd.

In the era of the Internet of Things, the service industry has changed forever. The latest ICT (Information Communication Technology) provide us the best opportunity ever to better understand customers. The mindset of human-centered design emphasizes the importance of human beings (customers and designers) in design. To further incorporate human behaviors and other social and natural environment factors to build smarter service systems, we propose a new approach, the semiparallel service system (SPSS), which follows the ACP framework an emerging methodology in complex systems modeling. The core of SPSS is the hybrid service system, where designers are decision makers who control the artificial service system via behavioral rules. With behavioral rules, artificial service systems learn from real service system as well as big data from customers and the environment. With the hybrid service system, we can design prototype, perform experiments and run the system in parallel with the real service system. According to life cycle management concept, we expand system engineering method “Vee” model to “N” model to implement our SPSS framework. Finally, we use the case of internet hospital design and evaluation to demonstrate the advantages and potentials of SPSS, followed by a discussion of the future research challenges.

Developmental flight testing on the United States Marine Corps (USMC) CH-53K King Stallion heavy lift program identified significant engine integration technical challenges including Exhaust Gas Reingestion (EGR), engine compartment cooling and engine exhaust impingement on the aircraft’s fuselage. These challenges limited the mission envelope and threatened to delay the CH-53K King Stallion heavy lift helicopter program. Immediate resolution of these issues was required for the USMC to proceed with the planned deployment of CH-53K. The CH-53K all digital design, advanced computer modeling techniques, rapid prototyping and flight test data reduction methodologies were brought together by the U. S. Navy and industry team to solve these problems and progress the program. This paper discusses the work conducted in parallel and immediately after the Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) modeling validation effort;CFD was deployed in a massive way in order to examine the air vehicle impacts of different EGR solution proposals at both critical EGR flight conditions as well as across the CH-53K flight envelope. CFD data extractions, focused on EGR attributes and engine integration risks, were then used in a multi-disciplinary systems engineering trade study that weighted pertinent air vehicle impacts, including, e. g., aircraft performance, weight, engine life, cost of implantation and human factors. The system engineering score was used to downselect high confidence aircraft configurations for flight test assessment. © 2021, American Institute of Aeronautics and Astronautics Inc, AIAA. One of the most occurred cancers which cause death in women is breast cancer, contributing to 16% of all female cancers worldwide. Detection of the disease in the preliminary stage is the only way to treat the disease from any severity. Presence of the digital imaging modalities also allows the computerized diagnosis of a disease which overcomes the limitations of a human perception system. However, a pathologist who is knowledgeable and skilled is necessary for an appropriate diagnosis. Also, tissue sample analysis requires a lot of manual labor. Therefore, combining digital histopathology with computer-aided diagnostic (CAD) tools can assist in solving these issues. In this paper, we have proposed a hybrid framework of nucleus region segmentation from the histopathological images. The primary aim of the proposed framework is to ensemble information from multiple segmentations and, finally, fuse this information (in terms of intersection) to acquire the core and stable nucleus region(s). For this, we have ensemble the U-net model (with VGG-16 as the backbone network) with the fuzzy c-means algorithm for precise nucleus regions segmentation from the histopathological images. Experimental results reveal that the proposed framework performed better for cell nucleus segmentation with dice similarity index values of 0.8517 and 0.9357 using publicly available BreakHis and BreCaHAD, respectively.

The arrival of the experience economy tide has claimed the decision-making power of the garment industry shifted from the enterprise to the consumer. Enhancing the shopping experience is an essential part of attracting customers. Traditional clothing store design needs to be updated with cutting-edge technology. This paper presents a virtual fitting and evaluation system in virtual reality environment. Based on digital human body model data acquisition technology, three-dimensional human body visualization modeling for garment design process is carried out. The CLO3D technology is used to realize the three-dimensional design and virtual performance of clothing. Aiming at the cognitive differences between designers and consumers in fashion design, an explorative research was done based on the consumers' perceptual cognition of clothing, which suggested an evaluation method for clothing based on perceptual image and established a perceptual cognition matching model between customers and designers. With the methods of expert interviews, questionnaires, focus groups, card classification, four evaluation dimensions of clothing design were extracted: overall style, appearance style, color&fabric, pressure perception and 11 corresponding evaluation factors. Taking business men's wear as an example, an evaluation factor knowledge base and a general computer-aided clothing design emotional image evaluation system are constructed. Based on this system, consumers can get a new experience of immersive virtual fitting, and designers can quickly get consumers' evaluation of clothing design to improve efficiency of clothing design.

yInternet of Things (IoT), and in general the Internet of Everything (IoE), are deeply influencing the business processes digital Transformation, also in the Public Administration context, introducing new actors and interactions among People, Process, Data and Things. Therefore, a re -design of the processes or the creation of new ones is necessary, in a way that the design of a public service meets needs and skills of different end users (citizens, business managers, experts, etc.). This paper presents a framework for the design of public service user interfaces that, on the basis of domain ontologies and BPMn extensions, support the modeling of new interactions with IoT and bot services, in particular Telegram Bots, in the context of public administration processes. A service semantic annotation model can be shared with and reused by other organizations, thus reducing the user interface design and implementation time, and consequently the overall service development time.
