This paper describes research into the application of Model-Based Systems engineering (MBSE) tools and processes to Risk-Informed design (RID). RID enables system risk analyses early in the lifecycle of spaceflight projects allowing designers to use risk as a design commodity and part of the overall trade space. RID uses a "minimum functionality" approach, whereby a minimal, single-string system design is first envisioned that only meets basic performance requirements without any regard to overall reliability or safety. Risk analyses are then used to apply informed design enhancements based on their contribution to risk reduction. A recent application of RID was the Altair Lunar Lander Project that was intended for human lunar exploration under NASA's Constellation Program. The Altair project's approach and results are reviewed and analyzed in this paper as a specific application of RID. In traditional projects, several tools such as Relex, Windchill or SAPHIRE, are used in parallel to apply risk informed design techniques. These analyses also traditionally occur later in the design cycle when changes are more difficult to implement. Safety and reliability analyses typically have no direct connection with the system architecture model, which accurately depicts the physical and functional constructs of a system, including the "ilities. The model is directly impacted by the results of the analyses. This creates a time-consuming iterative process of analyses and modification because of the need to integrate several tools and teams. To improve this process, the research described here investigated the use of a single, cloud-based MBSE CAD tool called Innoslate that integrates failure analysis into the system architecture model. Main purpose of this work is to show how easy and economics an ergonomic/comfort based approach, in re-design a manual assembly workplace, can be;authors, using a new comfort/ergonomic evaluation criterion, analyzed a workstation and identified the critical issues under ergonomic/comfort point of view and finally gave several guidelines to re-design the workplace, implementing minor modification, and improve work-safety, work-quality and productivity. The postural analysis was performed by non-invasive and especially inexpensive methods, based on cameras and video-recorder use and by photogrammetric analysis;DELMIA (R) DHM software has been used to perform all simulations;comfort analysis was performed by the software developed by researchers of Departments of Industrial engineering of Salerno: CaMAN (R). The test case is an automatic assembly machine that has been modeled and used for virtual postural analysis. Main results of this work can be found in a very good numerical/experimental correlation between acquired/simulated postures and real ones, and on the powerful use of an objective comfort evaluation method, based on biomechanics and posture analysis, for giving to designers the guidelines to re-design a workplace and a work-cycle. This kind of approach seemed to be very powerful in re-designing the work-place and in re-scheduling the work time-sheet because it allowed to improve an ergonomic corrective action with minor costs for company. Obtained results demonstrated the validity of re-design hypotheses through the increase of all comfort indexes and the improvement of workstation/operator productivity.

This paper presents the computer aided design (CAD) and computer aided engineering (CAE) modeling of Cluj-Sud 110 kV high voltage substation in order to examine the influence of substation constructive elements and apparatus (e.g. phase conductors, bypass bus bars, breakers and towers) on the spatial electric field distribution. The substation belongs to FDEE Electrica distributie Transilvania Nord SA. In a first step the detailed three dimensional (3D) CAD models of the substation components are constructed and assembled in the CAD environment SolidWorks. Then the exact 3D coordinates of the terminals are automatically retrieved and the electric field distribution is computed on the 3D CAD model using a CAE software developed. The electric field distribution is represented on horizontal and transversal slices at the 3D CAD model in order to highlight the high intensity field zones and compare them with respect to the actual legislation norms of human exposure.

This paper aimed at how to improve the ergonomics in maintenance. The method digitalhuman Models that adopted to simulate ergonomics in design early stages was proposed. First, factors of maintenance ergonomics were analyzed;the factors were anthropometric, maintenance posture, human physiological characteristics, easy accessibility and visibility, and safety. Second, the function of digitalhumanmodeling in Creo was introduced. Third, the implications of digitalhuman models in ergonomics analysis and simulation were demonstrated in detail by the case of virtual maintenance design in computer numerical control(CNC) lathes. Lastly, direction of virtual maintenance and further study of ergonomics were discussed.
