3D medical model is widely used in modern surgery, and image processing is the main method for its reconstruction. Because the structure and shape of human organs are very complicate, triangular mesh is more appropriate than 4-sides path surface for medical model. To promote the application of 3D medical model based on digital triangular meshes, technologies of precise reconstruction via image processing, RE based editing and triangular mesh based forward design are integrated and used to create precise original model, cut model, repairing model and surgical aid tool. The applications illustrate, with proposed method, 3D medical model based on digital triangular mesh can be handled freely as wanted, and used successfully in clinic to improve the operation quality and precise degree.

Recently there has been increasing interest in building networks with Ambient Intelligence (AmI), which incorporates the user-centricity and context awareness. However, both the Internet TCP/IP protocol stack and the seven-layer OSI reference model are not suitable for AmI networks, because they do not specifically take the end-user requirements into consideration in their architecture design. Under the client-server architecture, we propose to explicitly take the end-user into account by defining a new layer called User Layer above the traditional application layer. The User Layer empowers the end-users to influence network performance based on their interaction activities with the networks. We adopt the Model human Processor (MHP) approach for building the User Model. After that we present an exemplary User Layer implementation to illustrate how the User Layer interacts with the underlying protocol stack and improves end-user's satisfaction with network performance.

The advancement of mobile device and wireless communication technologies has a great influence on the design concept of learning activities. The effects of new technologies on learning have also been widely discussed. In this research, we attempt to integrate field study into the digital mobile learning model, and build a mobile learning environment with both physical and virtual resources. The investigation of this research focuses on the effects of this mobile learning model on students' cognitive load and learning achievements. Fifty-one sixth-graders participated in this research in either the experiment or the control group. From the pre- and post-tests as well as the cognitive load questionnaire, the research found that those students who received blended mobile learning instruction had better learning achievements and less cognitive load than those learning from human tour guidance. Therefore, this research concludes that the blended mobile learning model has positive effects on elementary students in local culture learning.

The objective of this study is to test the correlation between a Physical Task and a digital Task through integrated sensory feedback mechanism in Virtual Build Methodology. The research question posed regards whether the pressure feedback mechanism in Virtual Build Methodology proposes high fidelity for push-pull tasks. There are many research studies that have been done on DHM, MOCAP, VR and Haptic interfaces individually, but integrating those with a tactile feedback mechanism is still challenging. While being increasingly used, the Virtual Build Methodology has not been studied regarding its human integration through a multi-sensory feedback system. It may seem intuitive, but disregarded many times, that the tactile feedback mechanism is essential for product design and development practices. This study aims to fill this gap by introducing a pressure based sensory feedback system to provide a higher fidelity in virtual product design practices.

Safety-critical systems are technical systems whose failure may cause injury or death to human beings. Tools used in the design and evaluation of safety-critical systems are redundancy and formal methods to ensure a proper operating behavior. To integrate human factors into the engineering-process of safety-critical systems it is necessary to take into account cognitive aspects of human beings while interacting with these systems. Formal human performance models can be applied to support the design and evaluation. These cognitive models interact with the technical system and provide a wide range of objective data (e.g., execution times). But using human performance models requires validating their behavior and internal structure in advance. Especially in the context of safety-critical systems this is an important issue. In this contribution the possibilities of multilevel analysis of human performance models are shown and discussed. Selected tools are introduced and related to a derived taxonomy of multilevel analysis.

digital preservation is the mitigation of the deleterious effects of technology obsolescence, media degradation, and fading human memory. For engineering, design, manufacturing, and physicsbased simulation data this requires formats that are semantically accessible for 30-to-50 year lifespans. One of the fundamental challenges is the development of digital geometry-centric engineering representations that are self describing and assured to be interpretable over the long lifespans required by archival applications. This paper introduces the challenge of long-term preservation of digital geometric models. We describe a digital preservation case study for an engineering model which required, for just a single part, over 3.5 GB of data, including 39 file formats and over 750 distinct model and shape files. Based on lessons learned in this case study, we present a framework for enhancing the preservation of geometry-centric engineering knowledge.
