This paper presents the current and probable future applications of digitalhumanmodeling (DHM) in Product Lifecycle Management (PLM) implementations. A Formula I race car and a marine vessel were developed by the integration of PLM and DHM software packages. Dassault Systemes' CATIA V5 PLM solution package was used for CAD/CAE design/analysis and UGS Tecnomatix JACK software was utilized for visual/mathematical ergonomics and human analysis. Literature review for future work, [1] and [2], was discussed to investigate the potentials of DHM in PLM for simulation of a blast motion in Navy vessels. The results and observations indicated that integration of DHM and PLM packages have potentials to improve the product development efforts and offer an enhanced approach for simulation of complex systems where there is human-machine integration.

Using finite element models, the brain tissue deformation is simulated in the case of the head impact during crash accident. In the first part of the research the FE-model is built, in this model complex geometry of the human head, material properties and nonlinearity are considered. There are ten kinds of parts included in this model, which are neurocranium, forehead scalp, cerebrum, cerebellum, brainstem, brainstem, callus, cerebrospinal fluid, viscerocranium, cervical vertebra, neck and shoulder. Referring the material parameters given by references for human brain tissues, the deformation under the conditions that the vehicle is impacted under certain velocities of 60km/h, 90km/h and 120km/h is simulated. The results of the digital simulation show the pressure, stress and strain distribution on the mid-sagittal plane. The results represent that the location of the contusions of the brain tissues and more important is that from these simulations it can predict the injury biomechanics of the head impact. The findings of this research work are helpful for the digitalhuman, particularly the brain contusion mechanism study. They are also useful for the design of the head protective devices.

Chinese culture and consumer patterns are dramatically different from those in the US and Europe. That greatly impacts the types of products that are relevant to the Chinese market, the product development life cycle and methods by which these products are defined and developed for information and communication technologies (ICT). To address those unique differences, the User Centered design (UCD) research team at Intel China has developed and refined techniques for involving engineering staff in the early stages of product design, namely user research and experience design. This early involvement has many advantages and improves the overall effectiveness of the product development team. This article describes the role of the engineers in the early phases of the user centered process, and the learnings and challenges that come from this approach. Real-world case studies are used to illustrate the methodologies.

Postsecondary engineering programs seek students that are prepared, capable, diverse, and informed about the creative field known as engineering. In order to achieve these goals, it is critical that the education of 6 - 12 engineering teachers be "reengineered" to reflect the core capabilities of creativity and innovation rather than the traditional focus on discipline specific knowledge. The Education for Teaching Innovation, design, and engineering (ETIDE) program proposes a creativity and innovation-based program that utilizes design and technological literacy as the core elements for teacher preparation. The ETIDE program focuses on developing well-prepared innovation, design, and engineering teachers for 6 - 12 programs and classrooms. Current teacher preparation programs focus on project-based learning, more mathematics and science, or teaching the engineering common body of knowledge. Negligible attention is paid to the development of students' creativity and innovation capabilities. The ETIDE program organizes program content around the following courses;(1) Introduction to 3D design and modeling, (2) The designed World, (3) Systems of Technology, (4) Communications in Technology, (5) Artificial Science, (6) Control Systems, (7) Invention, Innovation, and design, (8) Industrial design, (9) Prototyping and Simulation, (10) human-Centered design, (11) Technological Research and Development, (12) Teaching Skills for design and Innovation, and (11) design and Innovation Studio.

This paper emphasized on how to construct one kind of assessment system based on the standards and specifications for cockpit ergonomic synthesis assessment, and the knowledge of the aviation experts and the experienced pilots. It analyzed the necessity of developing the assessment system, and then presented the basic principal and the function demand of the assessment system. In addition, the key technologies for developing this assessment system were discussed in detail utilizing Visual FoxPro 6.0. This assessment system transforms the assessment model and process into the computer program by the mathematical model, enables the assessment process truly to be operational, and also can reduce the assessment cycle.
