Generative AI for Analog Integrated Circuit design: Methodologies and Applications

Electronic design Automation (EDA) in analog Integrated Circuits (ICs) has been the focus of extensive research;however, unlike its digital counterpart, it has not achieved widespread adoption. In this systematic review, we discuss recent contributions in the last five years, highlighting methods that address data scarcity, topology exploration, process-voltage-temperature (PVT) variations, and layout parasitics. Our goal is to support researchers new to this domain by creating a comprehensive collection of references and practical application guidelines. We provide a methodological review of state-of-the-art machine learning (ML) approaches, including graph neural networks (GNNs), large language models (LLMs), and variational autoencoders (VAEs), which have been successfully applied to analog circuit sizing tasks. To the best of authors' knowledge, this is the first review to comprehensively explore the application of generative AI models in analog IC circuit design. We conclude that future research could focus on few-shot learning with domain-adaptation training of generative AI methods to simplify the design tasks such as human-tool interaction or guided design space exploration.

Taking the Tujia hand-waving dance as an example, this study aims to apply AI technology to design to improve the design efficiency of intangible cultural heritage and promote the development and communication of related digital collections. Firstly, based on the video of inheritors' performance, the study establishes a semantic dataset of the typical postures of Tujia hand-waving dance. Then, the study tries 3D reconstruction of the human body from the single-view images using AI algorithms. Later, the designer carves the details of the 3D models generated by AI. Finally, the human-AI co-created 3D models are transformed into NFT works. This study initially confirms that not only the AI-assisted workflow may obviously reduce the workload that designers need to invest in the early stage of modeling, but also can efficiently connect the links of data collection, 3D modeling, detail carving, and morphological transformation, thus improving the design efficiency of intangible cultural heritage. © 2024 The Authors.

The Fourth Industrial Revolution, or Industry 4.0, introduces transformative changes in manufacturing by integrating advanced digital technologies, with human-Robot Collaboration playing a central role. This paper conducts a comprehensive literature review to identify critical research gaps in the field of human-Robot Collaboration within the context of Industry 4.0, focusing on task allocation between humans and robots in assembly lines, and defines key requirements and features necessary for developing a multi-simulation-based digital Twin. The review reveals that existing studies often adopt a fragmented approach, concentrating either on productivity or ergonomic aspects without integrating them holistically. Additionally, it highlights the inconsistent use of ergonomic methodologies and the lack of real-time, operator-driven solutions in current digital Twin models. These gaps are addressed by key requirements and features necessary for developing a multi-simulation-based digital Twin system that optimizes task allocation in human-Robot Collaboration environments. The identified requirements include the integration of ergonomic and productivity data, real-time data exchange capabilities, and the use of established ergonomic methodologies. © 2024 The Authors.

In the context of highly customized industrial applications, human-machine collaboration systems merge the efficiency and precision of collaborative robots with the adaptability and complex decision-making capabilities of humans. This integration adeptly addresses intricate manufacturing tasks that demand high sensitivity and adaptability. However, the virtual Commissioning of human-machine collaborative design schemes prior to the establishment of such systems presents challenges. These include integrating diverse heterogeneous components, the absence of a unified standard for modeling, and the need for dynamic adjustments to design schemes to enhance Commissioning efficiency across multiple engineers. Moreover, in manufacturing environments where cost and efficiency are critical, there is a demand for lightweight collaborative Commissioning tools that can swiftly resolve issues. To address these challenges, this paper leverages AML standardized modeling capabilities to develop a human-machine collaborative digital twin construction methodology. This methodology is based on meta models, meta-actions, and configurable meta processes. Furthermore, it introduces a granular progressive loading algorithm designed for a cloud-edge operational mode, which, when coupled with multi-view classification techniques, fulfills the requirements of lightweight collaboration in platforms such as web browsers/IPAD/Augmented Reality. The approach is ultimately validated through a case study focusing on battery pack wiring harness assembly units within the new energy battery sector.

The FuzbAI system represents a fusion of traditional table football with advanced technology, incorporating computer vision, motion control mechanisms, and artificial intelligence algorithms to provide a new take of the human-machine interaction with the exciting gaming experience. This paper presents a short examination of the FuzbAI system, including its architecture, the development of a digital twin for simulation, and the organization of the FuzbAI competition. Initiated in 2019, the FuzbAI project aimed to attract students to electrical engineering while serving as a platform for testing various AI algorithms. Through the integration of cutting-edge components, FuzbAI offers an immersive gaming experience while preserving the essence of table football. The introduction of a digital twin facilitates rigorous algorithm testing, driving advancements in autonomous gaming. The FuzbAI competition, a showcase of talent and innovation, highlights the potential of AI in gaming. The competition results indicate that sim-to-real approach can be effective tool for simulation-based training and obtaining good performance of AI agents in real-world gaming environments. © 2024 The Authors.

Evaluating the Benefits and Drawbacks of Visualizing Systems modeling Language (SysML) Diagrams in the 3D Virtual Reality Environment

Model-Based Systems engineering (MBSE) prioritizes system design through models rather than documents, and it is implemented with the Systems modeling Language (SysML), which is the state-of-the-art language in academia and industry. Virtual Reality (VR), an immersive visualization technology, can simulate reality in virtual environments with varying degrees of fidelity. In recent years, the technology industry has invested substantially in the development of head-mounted displays (HMDs) and related virtual reality (VR) technologies. Various research has suggested that VR-based immersive design reviews enhance system issue/fault identification, collaboration, focus, and presence compared to non-immersive approaches. Additionally, several research efforts have demonstrated that the VR environment provides higher understanding and knowledge retention levels than traditional approaches. In recent years, multiple attempts have been made to visualize conventional 2D SysML diagrams in a virtual reality environment. To the best of the author's knowledge, no empirical evaluation has been performed to analyze the benefits and drawbacks of visualizing SysML diagrams in a VR environment. Hence, the authors aimed to evaluate four key benefit types and drawbacks through experiments with human subjects. The authors chose four benefit types-Systems Understanding, Information Sharing, modeling and Training Experience, and digital Twin based on the MBSE value and benefits review performed by researchers and benefits claimed by the evaluations for similar visual formalism languages. Experiments were conducted to compare the understanding, interaction, and knowledge retention for 3D VR and conventional 2D SysML diagrams. The authors chose a ground-based telescope system as the system of interest (SOI) for system modeling. The advent of digital engineering practices across industries and defense organizations has created a need for graduating engineers to acquire skills in conceptualizing and creating digital models that capture the lifecycle of the product, system, or service of interest. The transition from traditional document-based models to digital models requires training in modeling languages and modeling methods to apply model-based systems engineering (MBSE) tools and techniques. These pillars are essential to designing digital models and employing a systems-thinking framework. digital engineering skills focusing on MBSE topics are currently not widely available in undergraduate or graduate programs. We propose a modular approach for integrating these topics in a set of core courses in the second and third years of the engineering curriculum, building incremental skills across this two-year period, and leading to their application in capstone design projects in the final year. The modules are drawn from a recently implemented digital engineering graduate certificate for training a civilian Air Force cohort. This twelve-credit certificate included four semester-long courses in: (i) Systems, Models and Simulation for digital engineering;(ii) Model-Based Systems engineering;(iii) Cyber-Physical Systems and Simulation;and (iv) Data-Driven Decision-Making and Risk Management. The modules are hosted on an online learning and course management system. Each module includes an experiential learning project that supports designing use cases with relevant stakeholders, conducting interviews with non-engineering domain-experts and end users of the system or creating digital models using systems modeling languages such as the Unified Architecture Framework (UAF) and the Systems modeling Language (SysML). modeling from the perspectives of software engineering and systems engineering have co-evolved over the last two decades as orthogonal approaches. Given the central role of software in modern cyber-physical systems and the increasing adoption of digital engineering practices in complex systems design, there is now significant opportunity for collaborative design among system users, software developers, and systems engineers. Model-based systems engineering (MBSE) and systems modeling languages can support seamless cross-domain connectivity for design, simulation, and analysis of emerging technologies such as Augmented Reality (AR). This paper presents a co-design process for extending the capability of an existing AR application referred to as a No-Code AR Systems (NCARS) framework. NCARS enables content developed by multi-domain authors to be deployed on AR devices through a software layer that bridges the content to the game engine that drives the AR system. Utilizing a software dependency diagram of the AR Annotation function, an existing MBSE model of the AR system is extended to include the structure and behavior of relevant software components. This allows a modular design of the system to address needs in integrating new requirements into the existing application. New user requirements for tracking items in motion in the user's physical environment with virtual annotations in the augmented space are collaboratively designed and visualized through use case, block definition, internal block, and sequence diagrams. They capture the required structure and behavior of the proposed to-be system.

Power system is the largest, most complex, capital and technology-intensive artificial composite system in all industrial systems in the world so far, and is one of the most important achievements in the history of the science of human engineering. Considering safety and stability, the design and management of power systems are becoming increasingly important. With the breakthrough in network technology, information technology, modeling, and optimization technology, digital twins are expected to be applied in practical systems to solve the problems mentioned above. The proposed framework follows a front-end and back-end separation approach, providing support for seamless integration with web pages, mini programs, and mobile apps through plug-in access. This unified framework offers a comprehensive set of functionalities, including status synchronization, parameter tuning, web-based algorithm design, visual configuration of customized user interfaces, and real-time control using online digital twin control strategies. This paper contributes to the design and implementation of a unified and adaptable online digital twin framework that covers the entire control system process for thermal power plants. Through a case study conducted on an operational thermal unit, it is demonstrated that the implemented online digital twin framework can effectively support various daily management and training tasks.
